Traditional TechniquesOne traditional technique is etching. Etching is where printing produced by the process of etching. Etching is traditionally the process of using strong acid or mordant to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio in the metal.

Letterpress printing is a technique of relief printing using a printing press, a process by which many copies are produced by repeated direct impression of an inked, raised surface against sheets or a continuous roll of paper.

Lithography The term Lithography means the process of printing from a flat surface treated so as to repel the ink except where it is required for printing. It was invented in 1796 by German author and actor Alois Senefelder as a cheap method of publishing theatrical works.

Today, most types of high-volume books and magazines, especially when illustrated in colour, are printed with offset lithography, which has become the most common form of printing technology since the 1960s.
