Salford City College Eccles Sixth Form Centre BTec Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production Games Design Unit 66 – 3D Modelling HA5 – Sidekick Task 1 – Project Charter Use these prompts to create a written charter for your project. Skills Audit – Review your strengths and weaknesses and confidence in the following areas: Project Management My project management skills are ok. This is because I commonly make mistakes in giving adequate time for myself to do a project in: I give myself too much, or I give myself too little time to do the project in. Research and Ideas Generation I have very good skills in research and idea generation, because of this I am confident that I will be able to carry out good research and create good concepts for characters. Drawing Techniques My drawing techniques are not the best, but not the worst. This means that all my hand drawn pictures will be good to a certain degree but not something that you wouldn’t want to remember. After I do my first draft of a design, I would improve it to make it more suitable for the concept of what the character does for its job. I will also make the character more visually pleasing and more difficult to draw (but kept within my own skill range). Adobe Photoshop I have very little confidence with Adobe Photoshop. This is because I don’t understand how to use it other than how to crop, save and create contact sheets. The main reason for my lack of confidence is because the software is overly complex and I cannot understand what all the many buttons do. Adobe Illustrator I have very strong skills for Adobe Illustrator, I am very confident with this software and I know I can produce some very complex pieces of work with it. This is because I have done in before. NewTek LightWave - Modeller I am very confident with LightWave Modeller because I have learnt how to work it and a lot of the more complex tools for it. I have learnt how to conduct: Primitive Modelling, Extrusion Modelling, Surfacing, Box Modelling and Reference Modelling; all of which I used LightWave to do. Assignment Structure – Ask yourself the following questions: Are you clear about the timescale available? I am fully aware of the Timescale I have to make the character in. Do you understand what elements of the unit are being assessed?

Unit 66 – 3D ModellingHA5 – Sidekick Task 1 – Project Charter Use these prompts to create a written charter for your project.

Skills Audit – Review your strengths and weaknesses and confidence in the following areas:Project ManagementMy project management skills are ok. This is because I commonly make mistakes in giving adequate time for myself to do a project in: I give myself too much, or I give myself too little time to do the project in.Research and Ideas GenerationI have very good skills in research and idea generation, because of this I am confident that I will be able to carry out good research and create good concepts for characters.Drawing TechniquesMy drawing techniques are not the best, but not the worst. This means that all my hand drawn pictures will be good to a certain degree but not something that you wouldn’t want to remember. After I do my first draft of a design, I would improve it to make it more suitable for the concept of what the character does for its job. I will also make the character more visually pleasing and more difficult to draw (but kept within my own skill range).Adobe PhotoshopI have very little confidence with Adobe Photoshop. This is because I don’t understand how to use it other than how to crop, save and create contact sheets. The main reason for my lack of confidence is because the software is overly complex and I cannot understand what all the many buttons do.Adobe IllustratorI have very strong skills for Adobe Illustrator, I am very confident with this software and I know I can produce some very complex pieces of work with it. This is because I have done in before.NewTek LightWave - ModellerI am very confident with LightWave Modeller because I have learnt how to work it and a lot of the more complex tools for it. I have learnt how to conduct: Primitive Modelling, Extrusion Modelling, Surfacing, Box Modelling and Reference Modelling; all of which I used LightWave to do.

Assignment Structure – Ask yourself the following questions:Are you clear about the timescale available?I am fully aware of the Timescale I have to make the character in.Do you understand what elements of the unit are being assessed?I am aware that my skills to be tested are those in: LightWave modeller, time management and my creativity. Do you understand the scenario and the reasons for carrying out the assignment?I am aware that the Robot being made is to accompany my character through the Linden Second Life game universe.Have you visited the Second Life community and the SL Market Place? What are your impressions?I have visited the Linden Second Life Community. The game appears to be a game where you can re-create yourself in the games community, live a second life (which took a while to figure out). After thinking of what my character could do I thought of a police man, so I would need a sidekick who can help the police in all sorts of problemsWhat is your goal for this assignment? My goal is to produce a robot that can defend my character and itself from attack.

Constraints – What is going to cause you problems in this project (technical, time, legal and ethical issues etc.) and what will you do to solve these problems? The main constraint is going to be designing something that is suitable for the game
