Tasha Tudor: Around the Year has been organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

2012 Americana Symposium: Civil War Era Material CultureSeptember 29 • 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

The second annual Americana Symposium brings together leading scholars and experts on American history, art, and culture, highlighting the exhibitions and collections of the Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum. Attendees will experience formal presentations and have the opportunity to explore both museums. Civil War era artifacts, artwork, photographs, and clothing will be on view in the exhibition On the Home Front: New York in the Civil War, as well as demonstrations of historic cooking and the painting of a Regimental silk flag.

Tasha Tudor: Around the YearOctober 1 - December 31Around the Year illustrates the changing seasons and special annual celebrations with rarely-seen examples of Tasha Tudor’s original art for greeting cards, children’s books, and holidays—from Christmas and Easter to Valentine’s Day and the Fourth of July. See over 100 outstanding examples, including evocative watercolors, childhood drawings, miniature doll

cards, hand-decorated boxes and Easter eggs, and first-issue holiday cards. Spanning seven decades, Tasha Tudor’s touching images remind us of the simple pleasures of savoring each passing season.

On the Home Front: New York in the Civil WarSeptember 8 - December 31The American Civil War raged through the South from 1861 – 1865 and was reflected in all aspects of everyday life in upstate New York, even though no battles were fought in the area. Items from women’s clothing to children’s toys and home decorations contained military or patriotic themes. On the Home Front offers a multitude of rare artifacts from the museum’s collection, including items from upstate New York regiments, that detail these elements during this traumatic period in our nation’s history.

Join us for an informative lunchtime lecture at the Fenimore Art Museum. Programs begin at 12:30 pm and include lunch. Registration required: $20 nysha members/$25 non-members. Oral Histories of New York’s Farm Women Wednesday, October 24Professor William Walker of the Cooperstown Graduate Program plays excerpts from oral history interviews with women who have lived and worked on farms in central New York State.

Internal Landscapes: The Paintings of G.C. MyersWednesday, November 7Artist Gary C. Myers joins us for a discussion and tour of his exhibition, Internal Landscapes: The Paintings of G.C. Myers. Come learn first-hand from the artist in this amazing exhibition.

Flags, Uniforms, and Insignia: New York State Material Culture of the Civil War Wednesday, November 14Ted Shuart, Interpretive Specialist and Master Printer at The Farmers’ Museum, discusses flags, uniforms and insignia of New York troops during the Civil War.

Join us at the Fenimore Art Museum for an evening of fun as we open the doors for you and your family after hours. Guests will enjoy hands-on activities, stories, crafts, socializing, and music.

Admission: Children 12 and under: FREE; Age 13 and up: $5.00 for NYSHA members and $7.00 for non-members. Proceeds benefit the museum’s Education Department.

This two-day event is a regional favorite, bringing together a wide range of performers, artisans, exhibitors, and vendors in an old-time agricultural fair. Be amazed by historic magician Robert Olson performing magic tricks of the 19th century. Have your likeness created by talented silhouette artist Lauren Muney. Enjoy free carousel rides all weekend, sponsored by Matt Sohns and family. There will be spinning and fiber art demonstrations, dozens of alpacas, traditional 19th-century music, alpaca and canine agility demonstrations, horsedrawn wagon rides, harvest foods, crafts, historic games and races, and many more activities during this celebration of autumn.

Tractor FestSaturday & Sunday, October 6 & 7 10 am – 5 pmIncluded with paid museum admission

Learn about the world of farm tractors and how tractors power America’s farms. Vintage tractors from John Deere, Ford, and International will be on display, representing the growth of farming technology from the 1920s until today. See tractor demonstrations and enjoy wagon rides pulled by tractors. Children can take part in our "Kiddie Tractor Pull." Fun for the entire family!

Can’t get enough of the happiest music on Earth? Then come out to hear and see a great gathering of calliopes, band organs, and hand-cranked grinder organs. The Carousel Organ Association of America is bringing their finest, so come and hear them play!

Experience The Farmers’ Museum on an eerie lantern-lit tour. Your guide will lead you to historic buildings where ghostly happenings have been reported and recount tales of hauntings from Louis Jones’ book “Things That Go Bump in the Night.” Tours last approximately one hour.
