EDUCATION
Mississippi State University; Starkville MS Aug. 2016
Master of Science, Geoscience
Thesis: Surficial Geologic Mapping of the Vicksburg National Military Park
Funded by the National Park Service; produced four geologic maps of the Vicksburg National Military
Park. Maps to be published by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. Consulted with
science-related interagency such as National Park Service and Army Corps of Engineers. Wrote technical
report and presented data to a professional staff and peers via presentation talk and poster. Results
contribute to park management and restoration. Sam Houston State University; Huntsville, TX Dec. 2013 Bachelor of Science, Geology
Research project: Mapping the Missouri River Floodplain: a Holocene History of Climate Change
Mapping surficial strata by interpreting logs from hand augured samples. Maps were constructed using
ArcGIS. Funded through National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program
Results presented at GSA annual conference 2009 and 2010.Research project: Water Quality Research of the
Trinity River
Analyzed data and water chemistry behavior from samples collected along the Trinity River. Testing
preformed included: Turbidity, Alkalinity, Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), pH, and Conductivity
Research project: Harmon Creek Independent Research Project
Sedimentary structures of meander bends located on Harmon Creek, SE TX were observed and analyzed
using field work techniques and sedimentological concepts
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE NASA Langley Research Center Sept. 2016- Nov. 2016 Research Consultant
Team member of Western U.S Water Resource project II. Improved the usability of code written in R by
using empirical investigations to understand the observed impact of climate change on vegetation within
national parks and aid in natural resource management with the use of MODIS remote sensing satellite data.
Worked with a multidisciplinary team and collaborated with project partners in a fast paced environment to
produce end user deliverables for project partners, National Park Service and USGS. Deliverables included
technical paper, video, poster, and presentation.
South Dakota School of Mines June 2016- July. 2016
Field Camp Teaching Assistant
Pyrenees Mountain Range in Spain
Instructed students during a six week field course in the Pyrenees Mountains in Spain, teaching basic geologic
field techniques such as using a Brunton compass, data collection and recording techniques, stratigraphic
logging, cross section construction, basic geologic mapping and interpretation. Duties also included
organizing projects and help develop students technical writing and presentation skills
Mississippi State University Aug. 2015- May. 2016 Researcher On paid wages to assist in academic research development such data collection and analysis of LiDAR data, bore-hole data, and grain size.
Smith, Taryn E.
Mississippi State University Aug. 2014- May. 2015
Laboratory Instructor
Introduction to Earth Science Instructed and oversaw the laboratory class Introduction to Earth Science. Graded and proctored exams and class work of up to 30 students. Provided students an interactive environment to help develop higher-level thinking and problem solving skills. Taught students about geologic processes such as determining glacier and ice sheets advance and retreat, impacts of oceanic circulation, determining stream discharge, and how the Earth's systems interact with one another.
Sam Houston State University Jan. 2011- Dec. 2013
