T he Lucknowi Food Festival at Navratna, Taj Sam- udra uncovered the culinary secrets of the Nawabs. Held between March 15 and 26, the Lucknowi Food Festival transported guests to an enthralling era of historical Awadh. Reviving centuries old recipes from the kitchens of the Nawabs, Awadhi cuisine is consid- ered as a regal feast for Kings. An expert on Awadhi cuisine Chef Harish Sharma and his apprentice Chef Sunny Mehta, from Vivanta by Taj, Gomti Nagar (an area in North Indian city of Lucknow) dished up some truly delicious and refreshing meals that truly brought the ways of eating of the Nawabs. The richness of Awadhi cuisine lies not only in the variety, but also in the aromatic herbs and spices used such as cori- ander, cardamom and saffron to create the food. From the art of cooking over a slow fire to the traditional clay oven, Awadhi cuisine comprises of elaborate and delec- table dishes such as kebabs, kormas, birya- ni, kaliya, nahari, kulchas, zarda, sheermal, roomali rotis and warqi parathas. The festive menu at Navaratna featured over 18 kebab dishes, including Galawat Ke Kebab and Raan E Musallam, vegetarian and non-vege- tarian salan dishes and a number of biryanis, including Luc- know’s speciality – Dum Ki Gosht Biryani. Harpo’s Pizza, now in its 6th year of operation, has been actively promoting its product through social media, mainly on Facebook

which has averaged a following of over 10,000 fans a year and in a short span has hit a 50,000 fan base.

FB has been an important component of its market-ing and promotions campaign which has included spe-cial competitions focused for the FB fans with special deals and the interaction has been tremendous. Snap it and win it – the Red T-Shirt competition was one of the very first photographic competition via FB. Then they introduced the Messy Table competition for offices based in Colombo with fans that had to vote for their co-workers messy table picture on the events page. In December 2012, a unique competi-tion to celebrate the festive period in the offices that sent photos of office spaces or desks decorated for Christmas with recycled materials.

The campaign “share the love” gained popularity and was the talk of the town amongst the fans and non-fans too. A 19” pizza box which had a poster saying “share the love” was placed randomly with people, tuk tuks, and animals and photographed to create a buzz. For year 2013, fans had to design a Valentine’s Day card with recycled material.This year more events will be introduced to create awareness about the importance of recycling through our social media channels.

“We are so happy to have achieved 50,000 fans in such a short time. The success of our Facebook page is based on feeding fresh and interesting content on a regular basis and creating innovative ideas to engage existing fans as well as attract new fans. We have managed to reach our Facebook targets suc-cessfully and wish to thank all our fans who have over the years given their “thumbs up” and support-ed us,” MD and the brain behind the brand Harpo Gooneratne added.

This Easter Sunday will defi-nitely be one that one shall not forget. The Galadari

Hilton Colombo will join hands for the fourth con-secutive year with Colombo Fashion Week one of the biggest shows in the fashion industry

Spic-es will also serve a special international buffet with action cooking from 3rd to 5th April and footage of the previous days’ shows will be tele-cast at this venue.
