Target Audience for the Genre: Crime

Importance of (Target) audience in films.

Many people have different likings in a specific type of film and story which is why in a film it is good to have a target audience so a person that wants to watch a film knows whether the film is to his/her likings or not.

The whole reason you are making a film is for the audience and without them there would be no point of making a film.

Whether it is just to make money from the film or if they made the film to entertain you, you would need an audience because that’s who it is for.

However in 2005 the film ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ had a female character (Angelina Jolie) is also a strong character and the same level of dominance as the lead male character in it (Brad Pitt).

GenderStereotypically crime films are targeted towards men because of the violence and justice etc. Usually the lead Protagonist is a strong male.

AgeThe younger generation (15-24) are more likely to go and watch crime films because 15 years and younger are more likely not to understand what is going on in the film which is why it isn’t as appealing for that audience.

Official statistics show that people aged 15-24 are more likely to go cinema in comparison to the 20% over 40 years old. Therefore straight away you can tell that crime films would be more appealing to the younger generation
