music is music produced independently

by record labels or individuals. It is a

process that includes autonomous and a

do it yourself approach to recording and

publishing.

Who are the target audience

for indie music?

Target audience…

The target audience for indie genre music

is male and female between the ages of

16 – 24 years old. They are the group of

people who would be likely be in

education and are listening to music

during their leisure time. They would spend

money and take time out to go to indie

festivals to watch live performances from

their favourite group/band.

Target audience… Indie music is not as popular as mainstream

pop however it has a large fan base due to their active role on the internet. Lots of indie music are easily accessed online e.g. on YouTube, which allows people to view it. Indie genre has a low budget so the cheapest form of advertising their music would be o the internet. With many teenagers and young adults using the internet and social networking sites it is more likely that they would come across the indie genre compared to someone in there 30s.

Target audience…

For my music video, the target audience

would also fit into the typical group of

people that most indie music targets. The

actual stars for the band are within the

age group of the target audience which

would help the audience relate more

towards the group and also the issues

raised in the song.
