Page 1: Tarellian Dog Soldiers

Tarellians are a minor reptilian species of alien found throughout much of the galaxy. They are commonly known as Tarellian Dog-soldiers because of their snouted faces and their habit of working as mercenaries. During the Great Crusade, the Imperium of Man virus-bombed most of their home worlds. This almost wiped out the entire species and it is for this reason they have a great grudge against the Imperium. The Tarellians have not been conquered by the Tau or made official allies of the empire but are often found fighting as mercenaries in their armies, particularly when the war is against humans. Physically, Tarellians have narrow waists, broad shoulders and are slightly shorter than most humans, with long snouted faces. When employed by the Tau as auxiliaries to the main Fire Caste Cadres they are armed with Pulse Carbines and similar equipment, which is the only form of payment they require. Such is their hatred of mankind that they are willing to fight and die and ask only to be given weapons to do so. Disparate fighting forces of the Tarellians across the galaxy share this motivation, and those not found fighting alongside the ambitious Tau display a wide assortment of weaponry and armor which can make them look anywhere between professional soldiers to the appearance of savage barbarians.

Special Rules

Hatred of Man, Cold-Blood Killers

Hatred of Man Hatred of Man: Tarellians live to enact their vengeance on the Imperium of Man. They must always attempt to shoot at and/or assault enemy human infantry if there is a unit in line of sight, regardless of range. If there is no visible infantry target, the Tarellians may select a target as normal. In addition, they have the Preferred Enemy rule when facing such adversaries.

Cold-Blooded Killers Though Tarellians are not normally particularly fast, they are capable of short, rapid bursts of speed when attacking. If, at the beginning of each player's Assault phase, they are not

already engaged in close combat, they must make an Assault move of 12" towards the nearest enemy model if this would bring them into contact with it. If no model is in range, then the Tarellians do not move.

Wargear

Nah’Ruk Hunting Lizard Nah’Ruk Hunting lizards are large, successful predators that the Tarellians have long domesticated as steeds of war. A Tarellian with a Nah’Ruk hunting lizard counts as Cavalry. Hunting lizards do not have the sheer pace of a horse and do not therefore benefit from Fleet (and may not run). They improve the rider's Armor Save by 1 as their thick hides and bulk offer considerable protection. In close combat each rider will have an additional attack at their own Initiative and Weapon Skill but with Strength 5 representing the fearsome bite of the lizard. This attack is unmodified by weaponry.
