Lene Handberg has been assisting Tarab Tulku Rinpoche in developing and teaching the UD Education Program for the last 15 years. Before Tarab Tulku Rinpoche passed away in September 2004, Rinpoche entrusted Lene Handberg the responsibility for the continuing the Unity in Duality Education in Europe, India and elsewhere. She is President of Tarab Ling and Educational Director of Tarab Institute International.

Tarab Tulku Rinpoche (1935-2004), Lharampa Geshe / PhD, was a great scholar and teacher and comprised many roles. He was also a Research Librar-ian at the Royal Library and Lecturer at the Copenhagen University (1962-2000).

One of Tarab Tulku’s greatest achievements was that he established the Unity in Duality (UD) education. He was a profound practitioner and yogi thereby capable of going beyond the mere intellec-tual approach, realizing directly the profound essence of Ancient Inner Science of Mind

and Phenomena. This scholar and yogi approach, united, enabled him to extract the univer-salities of these ancient traditions, based on the interrelated nature of ex-istence, relating back to the findings of the scholars from the old Nalanda University in North India (2-13thcentury), which he presented under the name of Unity in Duality. With Unity in Duality, Tarab Tulku presented the ancient Indian knowledge, underlying the religious and cultural expressions -, in an understandable and applicable way for modern cultures, without losing the insight and depth -, which as such have an appeal to all people, also those for whom faith and religious beliefs are not centre-points.

Unity in Duality (UD) is the modern day interpretation of the concept of “Pratityasamutpada” (Sanskrit) or “Ten-drel” (Tibetan) - the interrelated nature of all existence. It explores the original version of reality through the teach-ings of Ancient Inner Sciences of Mind, Phenomena and Reality. This way of presenting the Science of Phenomena, our Perception and possible Transformation was developed by Tarab Tulku Rinpoche and structured in the form of an academic course by Rinpoche and Lene Handberg. This paradigm is the result of more than 30 years of continuous contemplation and development.

What is the historical prominence of UD? The content of the course is directly extracted from the Buddhist Philosophies. The teachings of Buddha Sakyamuni were carried forward, discussed, and further unfolded over the time by various eastern scholars in the major universi-ties like Nalanda and Takshashila. During 2nd – 12th Century AD the concept of Pratityasamutpada/Tendrel /Interrelated Nature was well established and integrated in the tradition-al teachings. With the destruction of Nalanda in 1193 AD, the academic and research in such fields was discontinued in India, however continued in Tibet. Many contemporary Tibetan Scholars have considered making these traditional teachings available to the current world. Unity in Duality is one of the very few such organized academic inquiries into the Buddhist Philosophies and other major Ancient Eastern knowledge domains like Vedic traditions and Jainism. What UD is not Unity in Duality (UD) is not about a particular culture, be-lief, religion or dogma. This is not just any ordinary medita-tional practice since it has a perfect balance of theoretical and practical aspects. It is beyond any conceptually created boundaries.
