LAST WEEK’S VISITORS

150th ANNIVERSARY ANNOUNCEMENT

1869-2019

Our church has begun planning for our 150th Anniversary celebration to take place early summer 2019. We have assembled a Steering Committee to handle the details of a time of celebration to honor and remember the last 150 years. Of course, we need your help! If you have any memorabilia (programs/orders of worship, etc.) that we could borrow and copy, please bring it to the church office. If you would like to document some stories or memories, we would love to include them. If you would like to participate in the planning process, or help in any other way, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected]. This is an exciting time for our church family, and we can’t wait to celebrate God’s love and faithfulness with you.

A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR UPCOMING DATES FOR KIDS

Hello Church! Hope you’re having a fantastic week! I wanted to share an event with you that took place earlier this week. The Supreme Court of the United States voted 7-2 IN FAVOR OF the Colorado baker Jack Phil-lips, who in 2012, refused to prepare a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because it contradicted his faith. The court system in Colorado had repeatedly decided in favor of the couple, so eventually the case made it to the highest court in the land, where it was reversed. The court was insistent that this decision wasn’t necessarily “precedent-setting” and that similar cases would still be determined on their own merits. However, we know how an elephant is eaten…one bite at a time. And for those who support the biblical definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman, this was a pretty significant bite. It isn’t something to gloat over, but it’s an encouraging reminder that God is still in control of this world, and that His hand is still upon this country. As we consider this event, let us not forget who our fight is with. It isn’t with people, it’s with an adversary far stronger than people. As Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:12…“ For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic pow-ers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heav-enly places.” Let us praise the Lord, fight the enemy, and pray for the lost. AMEN! 1 Peter 3:18-22 on tap this week. Some possible theological landmines in this text that need to be unearthed, discussed and understood. That’s what we’re going to try and do! Hope the rest of your week is great, and I will see you Sunday! Bro. Chris

details to come

I’d like to thank those who participated in our Sunday Night Summer Choir. You did a great job and it was a lot of fun! Anyone is welcome and invited to come and have some fun and share that evening during Summer in the Son. We practice at 5:00 pm for about 30-40 minutes (still giving you time to enjoy fellowship and desserts) and then share during the evening service. We have a couple of more opportunities this Summer—this Sunday night, June 10th and July 29th. Consider coming and singing with us, you will have a great time.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about music? This summer I will be offering some music classes that help you understand how to read music, how to count even the most difficult rhythm and more. These classes will be of-fered on July 15th, 22nd, and August 5th. The classes will run from 5:00 to 5:45 pm and will be in the newly renovated choir room! This is open to any-one in the congregation. Contact me if you have any questions.

As we continue to think about worship, another aspect of true worship is being Word-based. God’s Word (the Bible) must the basis for everything we do in worship. True worship is Word-based, whenever we gather it has as it’s focus the Word of God. We read God’s Word, we sing God’s Word, we pray God’s Word, we preach God’s Word, and we must see God’s Word in action as we live God’s Word. God’s Word is inerrant and reveals the Truth, Jesus Christ, to us and our lives are to subject to God and His Word. In choir, we spend a great deal of time discussing both the truth of each piece of music we sing and that truth must resonate from our lives. As important as the music is in our songs, the message is always the most important aspect on any song we sing.

Praising our Savior, all the day long! Randy
