Boiler Up! This was another exciting year in Boilermaker Country. Optimistically, things seem to be
shaping up around Purdue athletics and our department has a bit of a buzz around it. Many sports have
had successful seasons and others are on the rise. We may not call plays or make substitutions, but our
s Medicine Facility,
formally known as Mackey , is exciting and is always changing.
As a staff, we continue to grow and strive to be the benchmark for other programs. Over the past year,
Chris Carr and Kacey Oiness, Sports Performance Psychologists, continue to build our sports psychology
department and they have great plans for the near future. We have added two new Sport Dietitians to
our staff: Lauren Link and Christine Steinmetz. Jeff Stein recently returned to Purdue as the Director of
Physical Therapy at our new Co-Rec facility (New location of PUSH PT). After many years of dedication
a Boilermaker. Michelle Leithliter is her replacement and has hit the ground running. She has been a
huge help for our department and is working directly with Jane Bline assisting with operation duties. It
is an ever changing world; if you are not always looking forward then you will be seen in the rearview
mirror. Our focus continues to be Prehab, Rehab and Recovery. We see more healthy Student-Athletes
Our athletic training students continue to make us proud with all of their accomplishments on our
campus as well as being leaders in the classroom. Our senior class represented Purdue in a big way
again this year. We have placements in various areas of further education: OT School, PT schools, GA
positions in numerous conferences around the country, Clinics, as well as the US military. Their success
is made possible by those that have paved the paths before them, YOU! Through the generosity of you
to 6 juniors and 6 seniors. This
scholarship has a reputation that goes along with it and continues to be envied by programs all around
the country. Thank you for your continued support.

Xander has finally completed his 7 year term with Purdue University
having received his BS in Athletic Training, and MS in Health and
Kinesiology. During his stint as a Graduate Assistant with the Division
of Recreational Sports, he provided athletic training coverage for the
club and intramural sports teams. In addition, he worked closely and
subsequently led the implementation of baseline concussion testing
and education for the high risk club sport athletes. For his graduate
project, he worked with Dr. Leverenz in developing educational short
films on the performance and implications of special tests in clinical
evaluations for the undergraduate students. Since graduation, Xander
is patiently waiting for his girlfriend to land a collegiate assistant

Everything is going well with the education program. Alice continues as our Clinical Coordinator and continues her split with athletics
as the rehab coordinator in the athletic training room. Denny is teaching the HK 208 classes, Prevention and Treatment of Athletic
Injuries, and the students love him, as you would imagine. Casey Kohr taught the modalities class and he and Jessica Lipsett taught
therapeutic exercise. Additionally, Stephanie Leech and Whitney Queen taught the clinical classes of HK 301 and 401 respectively.
The students are enjoying the classes and learning.
We just graduated 13 athletic training students May 17th. All of them are placed and we wish them well as they begin the next chapter
in their careers. All but one have taken the BOC exam and passed. One student has still to take the exam this summer. The students
continue to do well. At this time our overall 3-year first-time pass rate on the BOC is a little above 90%, well above the required
national threshold of 70%.

The students just keep getting stronger. All of our classes are doing well both in the classroom and the clinical setting as well as
finding meaningful placement after graduation.
-level Masters Program. As most of you know by now, the decision has
been made that the Masters degree will be the entry-level degree for AT. Although the deadline for this mandate will not be for 7-10
years, we want to have the change in place well before the deadline. Our next comprehensive accreditation review is in the 2016-17
ue to progress toward that goal.
I told you last year about our efforts to provide our students with international experiences through study abroad. I continue to take
working on a relationship with the athletic

at DCU, taking classes in their AT program. The students did a great job and represented Purdue well. In exchange, we had 2 DCU
students at Purdue for the fall semester. The students did a fantastic job and fit into our program easily. At this writing, I have
another one of our students at DCU and am making arrangements for one of theirs to join us for fall semester. These opportunities
a global
profession and we need to have our students ready to be a part of it.
Thank you, again, for your support. Anytime you are in the area, please stop in and say hello. We always like to see you.
