A Quick-Acting Tap Holder

In addition to several turning jobs onhand for the lathe, there was one piecedr i l l ed , on t he end , wh ich r equ i r ed t o betapped. Being anxious to do this withoutchanging the setting, the quick-acting tapholder shown in the drawing was devised.The square shank of the tap is heldin a swingingpiece, clampedto the tail-stock center,so that, wheni n u s e , t hecenter fits intothe center holein the tapshank. Whenthe tap is inposition for use, it is located accuratelyby the pin, which also prevents it fromlifting. When the tapping operation isfinished, it is only necessary to pull outthe pin and swing the holder aside.
