The program aims to provide professional experience and training that will nurture participant’s talent and prepare them for more responsible leadership positions in their businesses, communities, and society in general as they return to their countries. The University of Oklahoma called upon United Petroleum Transports to participate in this year’s program by hosting a young man from India whose business in logistics made for a good partnership. Zee Nawaz, a young entrepreneur from Chennai, is highly dedicated to his work. His interest in participating in the program was to gain applied knowledge and learn about the cultures and values from an American company and the other fellow participants. This was an opportunity for him to learn how business organizations can enhance their impact on the economy. While Zee had high expectations of learning all he could from UPT, long- lasting relationships was not something he had considered. As ambitious as he was to absorb all he could, many folks at UPT were just as driven to learn more about him and his Indian culture. Zee quickly grew to love the Oklahoma way of life and all the employees who so warmly welcomed him. He hopes to be back someday running his own company and raising a family. While several offered to adopt the 25 year old so he could stay in America, there is no doubt his dream of living here will someday become reality. Zee had an opportunity to accompany Danny Byars to the capital for his OK Driver of the Year photo shoot with Governor Fallin. It was a pleasant surprise when she offered to take a picture with Zee.

Happy Anniversary

Drivers of the Quarter

$afety = $uccess 319 UPT Professional Drivers

received a safety bonus in the 2nd quarter for a total payout of $55,600

We just have to love the “new generation of engineers” developing our industry’s truck technology! Their best ideas just keep changing. In my career, engine oil has seen many changes. I can remember buying a quart of oil in a metal quart can. I think I still have the quart can drain tool. For today, we will take a short look at oil and how it will affect our equipment. Are you ready for the new standard “CK-4”? For 2017 emission compliant engines, a new oil standard was required. This oil has the ability to collect and hold dirt, water, soot, and other stuff an engine creates. The requirement also sets standards for service interval changes and complies with both US and European standards. Yes, we are in a global economy. The new standard “CK-4” is required to be “backward” compatible for engine which originally used “CH, CI, CJ”

standards. These standards were all changed in the last 10 years. If you are like me, who cares! What we do care about is viscosity. Today the 2017 compliant engines made in the US will operate using “10W-30”. This is much lighter weight oil and is designed to operate in the engine at much lower oil pressures. The engineering reasoning is: less oil pressure, less mechanical friction on the engine, and greater fuel economy. Everything emission change generated is driven to improve fuel economy. To the driver, the oil PSI gauge will read a lower amount of pressure at road speed than at idle. This is exactly opposite from every engine made in the past 40 years. For the equipment owner, they will have to decide if the new standard can work in an older engine, without causing major internal engine wear or failure. UPT sites, with 2017 emission compliant engines, will have two different oil inventories. Therefore any customer buying UPT inventory or supplies for their own use should know there is a difference. A difference, when un-checked, could cost a lot of money. Hope I made “oil” interesting. Just follow the manufacture oil recommendations for all equipment you own or operate and life will be groovy. You can contact myself at [email protected]. Thanks for all you do!

On the morning of June 28th, UPT continued our professional working relationship with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP). On this morning, the OHP conducted a cargo tank inspection class for about 20 troopers recertifying or obtaining theircertificationforcargotankinspections.During this time, the OHP not only used the resources of UPT’s facilities and equipment, but also the knowledge of our professionals on staff. UPT also used this time to build relationships with the troopers of the OHP andalso togain insightandclarificationof future changes to regulations.
