• The following slides contain important information about your career at Texas A & M, including:

UIN

• Your Universal Identification Number (UIN) is assigned by Texas A&M to faculty through their hiring department

• It is used in place of Social Security numbers to identify permanent records• The UIN is used to claim a NetID

ACTIVATE YOUR NET ID• Your NetID is your Texas A&M username. You will

use it every time you log in to University resources.

• To activate your NetID, you will need to:• Log in https://services.tamu.edu/netid-activate/• Use your Universal Identification Number

(UIN) and birth date.• Enter your PIN, if one was provided to you.• Choose a NetID.• Select a password.

HOWDY PORTAL

• Howdy is the web portal at Texas A&M University that helps students, applicants, faculty, and staff more easily connect to their university records and resources.

• https://howdy.tamu.edu/uPortal/normal/render.uP• Log in with your NET ID

• Select the Faculty/Teaching tab• Syllabus Access• Download Class Roster • Course Email

• Sign into eCampus (Blackboard) http://ecampus.tamu.edu/

• Log in: Net ID & Password

• Access• Announcements• Post assignments (can upload documents)• Class discussion groups• Class e-mail

COURSE SYLLABUS

• Minimum Syllabus Requirements• Contact [email protected] with questions

• Students should be given notice of your grading policy in the syllabus so that they know what is expected of them (nature of the assignment and weight given).

ABA CREDIT HOUR POLICY

• ABA Standards and federal DOE regulations define credit hours as follows:

• Each credit hour: one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and two hours of out-of-class student work.

• For example, a two credit course requires 2 hours (50 minute hour) of classroom time and 4 hours (60 minute hour) of student work outside of class.

• Students need to be informed of the expectations for out-of-class work in the syllabus and in the first class.

EXAM POLICIES

• Exams must be anonymous • Grades or exams cannot be discussed

with students until grades are posted• Associate Dean for Academic Affairs handles

rescheduling of exams• Assistant Dean for Student Affairs handles

disability accommodations

GRADING

• Available grades between A+ (4.01) and F (0.00)

• Pass/Fail (P/F)• Withdrawl (W)• Incomplete (I) • Minimum GPA for good standing is 2.33 (C+)

MAXIMUM ALLOWED CLASS AVERAGE

• 3.00 GPA: First year courses• 3.00 GPA: Courses with > twenty students

enrolled• 3.33 GPA: Courses > 10-20 students enrolled• 3.33 GPA (recommended) < 10 students

• NOTE: Academic Standards Committee must approve any deviation from this policy

GRADES• Registrar must receive grades no later than 30

days after exam• Grades are posted by registrar’s office• professors may not change grades once posted

• NOTE: Academic Standards Committee hears all requests for grade changes from professors or students.

EVALUATIONS

• Instructions for electronic student evaluations will be distributed toward the end of the semester

• Professors will receive copies of evaluations after all grades are posted

• Legal database access (for law school purposes)• Westlaw• LexisNexis• Bloomberg Law

• Use your law school e-mail address and obtain a password for access to search providers.  • MCLE credit for teaching activity
