SPARKS & REMARKS VOLUME 10, ISSUE 4 DECEMBER 2017

As we close another year, I would like to take the time to congratulate everyone for all your help, support and safety awareness throughout 2017. Although the year has gone by quickly, we have taken the time to improve all facets of our business. New customers and many repeat clients demon-strate our positive growth. My sincere appreciation goes out to

all our teams – everyone in Tampa and overseas, as well as our vendors and our clients. We only achieve success by working together.

Our motto is our priority: SAFETY IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE. We have improved tremendously – but even one accident is one too many. Just one injury affects our employ-ees, their families and our clients. We need to keep SAFETY in the front of our minds at all times and reach out to help and support one another. Remember: “See something, say some-thing” really can make a difference.

After a great deal of planning and effort, we have now transi-tioned our Ybor Shop and office to our Port Redwing facility. The 25 acres encompasses a much improved facility and shop,

with access to a 30’ deep water berth. Additionally, it brings our staff together for a more synergistic team effort. Thanks to all who have helped to make this big improvement a reality.

I want to wish everyone a safe, healthy, happy holiday season. Merry Christmas and high hopes for a safe and prosperous 2018!

In Paraiso, Tabasco, Mexico TTI-FSS continues work as owner representative of Asfaltos MesoAmericanos S.A. de C.V. for the Dos Bocas Industrial Park project. This year saw the terminal expand with earthworks, foundations, concrete pilings, pipeline supports, slabs, roads, as well as several buildings and firefighting and pumping stations. Responsible for overseeing the civil, mechanical and electri-cal engineering, the project features designs to accommodate 600,000 barrels of gasoline and diesel products. There are four 150,000 barrel API 650 tanks, a pipeline for the ship loading dock as well as multiple other pipelines for the tank farm and five multi-product loading racks, too. TTI-FSS vast experience erecting tanks has greatly improved the local

productivity, shortening the time to build each tank. This impres-sive undertaking is just one of the many repeat work projects provid-ed for this international client.

TTI-FSS attended and exhibited at the 2017 API (American Petroleum Institute) Tanks, Valves and Piping Conference & Expo held in Seattle, Washington in October. The con-ference gave attendees an opportunity to learn about new and existing industry codes and standards and to hear about emerging trends from industry experts. The upstream, midstream and downstream markets were represented with more than 500 attendees. Connecting in this type of setting with purchasing agents, engineers and other related contacts from petroleum companies is a benefit of exhibiting at these types of events. The fabrication and installation of large API tanks is a very important segment of work that TTI-FSS performs.

TTI-FSS has built bullet tank pressure vessels to house butane in the Tampa area. This project provided fabrication services of new ASME LPG bullet tanks.

BULLET TANKS: FABRICATION OF ASME VESSELS

Step Two: Fitting/welding of circumferential seams.

Step One: Roll 1 1/16 inch plate into round cylinder shell sections.

Step Three: Welding circumferential seams utilizing tandem wire manipulators.

Step Four: Final weldings for two bullet tanks, each weighing 200,000 lbs.

As the year closes, TTI-FSS is completing the retrofit of Tank 40 in St. Eustatious which has the potential to store approximately 125-Kbbls. Built in 1991 and exposed to a Caribbean environment that is not keen to steel preserva-tion, the tank was determined to need major repairs after inspection. The roof plates, perimeter rafters and the top three rings of the tank were removed using a systematic demolition plan.

The challenge of this project was to consider all pre-existing conditions and how they affect the repair plan and labor requirements. These challenges were overcome by careful analysis, communication and teamwork between the field crew and the design office. Following the demolition, the next step was to build up the tank using new material. New steel and shell plates, and roof nozzles were installed with the use of automatic equipment to weld horizontal seams and skillful manual welders to make the vertical welds. The tank is scheduled to be back in service in the first quarter of 2018.

TTI-FSS has been awarded a contract to very quickly build nine petroleum storage tanks for an international company outside the U.S. The customer’s choice was easy! TTI-FSS is experienced internationally and knows how to deliver projects on-budget, on-time and injury free. All tanks will

have the same capacity and will be capable of storing clean or dark products to be sold to third party businesses. TTI – FSS started rolling and shipping steel shell plates the beginning of November, 2017 and expects to complete the project by fourth quarter of 2018.

TTI-FSS TEAM TALKThird Quarter Safety Awards AnnouncedJeff Conley is a layout fitter at Adamo and the Adamo 3rd quarter 2017 Quarterly Safety Star winner. Jeff noticed an employee “cooling off ” with supplied oxygen. Jeff explained the haz-ardous situation and the employee was grateful. Nice job Jeff and we ap-preciate your safe work habits.

Bobby Helms, Fitter at the Port location was observed picking up some oily rags in his work station in North Bay. When I asked him what he was doing he replied, “I’m going to be grinding in this area and the sparks will be close to these oily rags.” Bobby easily could have thrown the rags into the trash can, but I watched him take them to the proper container in the used oil area which is the ideal thing to do. I thanked him for noticing the hazard and taking the extra steps to properly dispose of the contaminated rags. Let Bobby know we appreciate a job well done and his safe work efforts.

Ralph Hartig, driver Adamo location, was awarded a Safety Star this week. Ralph was making a delivery to customer and was so professional and courteous during his time on-site, the own-er of the company felt compelled to email the main office and tell us personally that Ralph was doing a great job. Ralph was awarded a star for his good deeds. Let him know we appreciate his safe work practices and job well done.

A Long Lasting Gift Is A Special Gift By Dave Newlin

When I was a youngster my Dad had a feed store where he sold animal feed and farm supplies in a little farming community in Southwestern Pennsylvania. He had expanded the business into selling hardware and sporting goods, including guns and hunting equipment,

I started working in the hardware store at age 11, mov-ing into the feed store as I got big enough to handle the 100-pound sacks of feed and eventually drive the feed truck. I was eager to learn about the guns that were sold at the store. Soon, I could tell you about every gun on the display rack. I could stand at a distance and rattle off the make and model, the cartridge for which the gun was chambered, how many cartridges it would hold, what other car-tridge sizes were available and other miscellaneous trivia about all the guns on display.

On Saturdays, Dad kept the hard-ware store open until 9:00 p.m. The smoke-filled back room was a gathering place for hunters and would-be hunters. The smoke was so thick and heavy you could hardly see the other side of room. Sometimes the stories told were even thicker, but I loved listening to them. I thought they were the greatest and I wanted to have some of those great outdoor hunting experiences myself.

I realize, now, that I have had many more hunting and fishing experiences than even any of these Pennsylvania farmers and small town residents, primarily because the hunting and fishing seasons in Pennsylvania were so short. My hunting experiences include deer hunting in Pennsylvania, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Texas. I have hunted ruffed grouse, ring neck

pheasant, ducks, rabbit, squirrel, quail, woodcock, turkey, elk and wild hogs.

In Florida, I was charged by a 350-pound wild boar I had just wounded. He went crashing off into the Palmettos as daylight was turning to dark. As I was trying to decide what to do about this situation, one of the options being to get in my truck and go home, the hog made a large sweep-ing U-turn and started back toward me. He was coming to get me and he was not happy. At this point I began thinking about the next cartridge in the chamber of my gun. It was a 30-year old round of paper hull double

ought buck shot from way back to the closing of Dad’s store. Was it going to fire properly now? I was not going to find out until the hog came past an old oak tree that was only ten yards away. As the hog came around the tree, barreling toward me at top speed I squeezed the trigger and that very power-ful load of double ought buckshot drove his head to the ground. After that close call, I realized there were no stories like that in the back room of the hardware store on Saturday nights.

When I was 14, my Dad gave me a deer rifle as my Christmas gift. I was elated, absolutely on cloud nine. It was a Model 70 Winchester, chambered for .243 Winchester cartridges. Winchesters of that era were the real, authentic Winchesters of very high quality. I still have that gun and still use it. I took it deer hunting recently. It has become a very long lasting and special gift.

As we enjoy the festivities this holiday season, giving and receiving gifts that we hope are special, let’s remember to cherish our families and friends by caring, listening, and helping. Such gifts pay dividends for both the giver and receiver all year long.

Merry Christmas
