The Buccaneers' 2020 schedule will feature seven games against teams that finished the 2019 season with a .500 or better record (Chicago, Green Bay, Kansas City, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota, New Orleans twice), four of which made the 2019-20 postseason. In addition to home and away games against NFC South opponents, Tampa Bay will face off against the NFC North and AFC West, as well as the NFC East's New York Giants (away) and the NFC North’s Detroit Lions (home). The schedule is based on a formula that was implemented with realignment in 2002 that includes home and away games against the three divisional opponents, four games against teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle, four games against teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle and two intraconference games based on the prior year’s standings against teams from the same conference divisions that are not scheduled to play that season.

2019 BUCCANEERS SEASON IN REVIEW 7

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

QB Jameis Winston• Winston threw for 5,109 yards in 2019. With at least 5,000 passing yards in 2020, he would join Drew Brees (three consecutive: 2011-13) as the only players in NFL history to post consecutive seasons with at least 5,000 passing yards. • Winston threw 33 touchdowns in 2019. With at least 30 passing touchdowns in 2020, it would mark only the 20th time in NFL history that a player has thrown for at least 30 touchdowns in consecutive seasons. • Winston has 19,737 career passing yards. He needs 1,978 more to pass Matthew Stafford (21,714 from 2009-14) for 10th-most, 2,036 more to pass Cam Newton (21,772 from 2011-16) for ninth-most, 2,245 more to pass Drew Bledsoe (21,981 from 1993-98) for eighth-most, 2,440 more to pass Russell Wilson (22,176 from 2012-17) for seventh-most, 2,478 more to pass Andy Dalton (22,214 from 2011-16) for sixth-most, 3,057 more to pass Derek Carr (22,793 from 2014-19) for fifth-most, 3,736 more to pass Matt Ryan (23,472 from 2008-13) for fourth-most, 3,935 more to pass Andrew Luck (23,671 from 2012-18) for third-most, 4,120 more to pass Dan Marino (23,856 from 1983-88) for second-most and 5,149 more to pass Peyton Manning (24,885 from 1998-2003) for the most passing yards by a player from their rookie season through their sixth season in NFL history.• Winston has 121 career passing touchdowns. He needs 10 more to tie Matthew Stafford (131 from 2009-14) for 10th-most, 15 more to tie Cam Newton (136 from 2011-16) for ninth-most, 21 more to tie Andy Dalton (142 from 2011-16) for eighth-most, 22 more to tie Derek Carr (143 from 2014-19) for seventh-most, 26 more to tie Brett Favre (147 from 1991-96) for sixth-most, 32 more to tie Matt Ryan (153 from 2008-13) for fifth-most, 40 more to tie Russell Wilson (161 from 2012-17) for fourth-most, 46 more to tie Peyton Manning (167 from 1998-2003) for third-most and 50 more to tie Andrew Luck (171 from 2012-18) for the second-most passing touchdowns by a player from their rookie season through their sixth season in NFL history

WR Mike Evans• Evans has 7,260 career receiving yards. He needs 954 more to pass A.J. Green (8,213 from 2011-17) for 10th-most, 1,106 more to pass Chad Johnson (8,365 from 2001-07) for ninth-most, 1,118 more to pass Antonio Brown (8,377 from 2010-16) for eighth-most, 1,343 more to pass DeAndre Hopkins (8,602 from 2013-19) for seventh-most and 1,541 more to pass Marvin Harrison (8,800 from 1996-2002) for the sixth-most receiving yards by a player from their rookie season through their seventh season in NFL history.• Evans has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first six seasons and, with 1,000 or more receiving yards in 2020, will become the only player in NFL history to record 1,000 or more receiving yards in each of their first seven seasons. Evans would extend his team record for 1,000-yard receiving seasons and consecutive 1,000 yard receiving seasons. He would tie Lance Alworth (1963-69), Brandon Marshall (2007-13), Jimmy Smith (1996-2002) and Reggie Wayne (2004-10) for the sixth-longest streak of 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

RB Peyton Barber• Barber has 15 career rushing touchdowns. OLB Shaquil Barrett• Barrett recorded a franchise-record 19.5 sacks in 2019. With 15.0 or more sacks in 2020, he would be just the 11th player in NFL history to post consecutive seasons with at least 15.0 sacks.

OLB Shaquil Barrett (continued)• Barrett has 19.5 sacks as a Buccaneer. He needs 6.5 more to tie Greg Spires (26.0 from 2002-07) for 10th-most, 7.0 more to tie Broderick Thomas (26.5 from 1989-93) for ninth-most, 8.5 more to tie Rondé Barber (28.0 from 1997-2012) for eighth-most, 13.5 more to tie Brad Culpepper (33.0 from 1994-99) for seventh-most and 15.0 more to tie Chidi Ahanotu (34.5 from 1993-2000, 2004) for the sixth-most sacks in franchise history.

TE Cameron Brate• Brate has 27 career touchdown catches. He needs one more to pass Mark Carrier (27 from 1987-92) and tie Joey Galloway (28 from 2004-08) for the fourth-most touchdown receptions in team history.• Brate has three career games with multiple touchdown receptions. He needs one more to tie Jimmie Giles for the most ever such games by a Buccaneers tight end and tie for the third-most such games in franchise history.

ILB Lavonte David• David has 22.5 career sacks. He needs 3.5 more to tie Greg Spires (26.0 from 2002-07) for 10th-most and 4.0 more to pass Broderick Thomas (26.5 from 1989-93) for the ninth-most sacks in franchise history. Thomas holds the record for the most sacks by a linebacker in franchise history.• David has 1,006 career tackles and needs 22 more to tie Hardy Nickerson for the third-most in franchise history (1,028). • David has three career defensive touchdowns and needs one more to tie for the third-most in franchise history (David Logan, 1979-96; Mike Washington, 1976-84).

WR Chris Godwin• Godwin has 2,700 career receiving yards. He needs 248 more to pass Mike Williams (2,947 from 2010-13) for 10th-most, 744 more to pass Gerald Carter (3,443 from 1981-87) for ninth-most, 793 more to pass James Wilder (3,492 from 1981-89) for eighth-most, 1,129 more to pass Keyshawn Johnson (3,828 from 2000-03) for seventh-most and 1,213 more to pass Joey Galloway (3,912 from 2004-08) for the sixth-most receiving yards in franchise history. • Godwin has 17 career touchdown receptions. If he surpasses 1,300 yards receiving in 2020, he would be the first player in team history to record 1,300-or-more yards in consecutive seasons.

WR Breshad Perriman• Perriman posted over 100 receiving yards in each of the final three games of the 2019 season. With at least 100 receiving yards in the 2020 season opener, he would tie for the longest streak of 100-yard receiving games in franchise history (also Mark Carrier, Weeks 13-16, 1989).

2019 BUCCANEERS SEASON IN REVIEW 9

BRUCE ARIANS

Bruce Arians was named the 12th head coach in franchise history on January 8, 2019.Arians is a two-time Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year, earning the award in 2012 (Indianapolis Colts) and in 2014 (Arizona Cardinals). He is the only coach in NFL history to earn the award multiple times in a three-year span with different teams and is one of only 12 coaches in NFL history to win the award multiple times.

In his first season with the Buccaneers in 2019, Arians led Tampa Bay to a two-win improvement over the previous season, guiding the team to a 5-3 record over the last eight games to finish 7-9. The team’s seven wins were its most since 2016. In addition, the Buccaneers 5-3 record on the road matched the third-best road mark in team history.

Under Arians’ direction, Tampa Bay’s offense set franchise records for both points scored (458) and touchdowns (54), while leading the league in passing offense at 302.8 yards per game and ranking third in the NFL in total offense at 397.9 yards per game. On the defensive side of the ball, the Buccaneers boasted the NFL’s best run defense, limiting opponents to 1,181 rushing yards over 16 games (73.8 avg.), the lowest total allowed in a 16-game season in franchise history.

Shaquil Barrett, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin all earned trips to the 2020 Pro Bowl in their first season under Arians, with Barrett and Godwin also earning AP Second-Team All-Pro honors. Barrett led the NFL with 19.5 sacks, surpassing Warren Sapp (16.5 in 2000) for the single-season franchise record. Evans and Godwin were the best receiving duo in the NFL, combining for 2,490 yards and 17 touchdowns on 153 receptions, while becoming just the second pair of Tampa Bay teammates to each go over 1,000 yards receiving in the same season and the first to each top 1,100 yards. Godwin set career-best marks across the board with his 86 receptions, 1,333 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, finishing third in the NFL in receiving yards and tied for fourth in receiving touchdowns, despite missing the final two games of the season due to injury.

In his first season with Jameis Winston, Arians helped the fifth-year quarterback to the first 5,000-yard passing season in team history. Winston led league with a team record 5,109 passing yards and finished second in the NFL with a team-record 33 passing touchdowns, while maintaining 8.16 yards per attempts, which was the second-highest single-season mark in franchise history and ranked sixth in the NFL this season.

Upon being hired by Tampa Bay, Arians quickly built a staff of qualified assistant coaches, bringing on a collection of coaches with decades of NFL experience. In building his staff, Arians also put together one of the most diverse coaching groups in the NFL. The Buccaneers are the only team in the league to have three coordinator positions, as well as the role of assistant head coach, filled by minority coaches. In addition, Arians’ staff made NFL history by becoming the first to have two female coaches in full-time assistant roles.

Prior to arriving in Tampa, Arians spent five seasons as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals (2013-17) in addition to a 12-game stint as interim head coach for the Indianapolis Colts (2012), compiling a regular season record of 58-33-1. During that 92-game stretch Arians was a head coach, his 58 wins ranked fourth in the NFL, trailing only Bill Belichick (73), Pete Carroll (63) and Mike Tomlin (59).

Throughout his 26-year NFL career, Arians has worked closely with some of the league’s top passers including Pro Bowlers Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck and Carson Palmer. As an offensive play-caller, Arians has directed top-10 offenses with three different teams (Arizona, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh) over the last nine seasons of his coaching career.

During his time in Arizona, the York, Pennsylvania native compiled a 49-30-1 regular season record (.619 winning percentage). The Cardinals’ 49 wins during that span were the seventh-most in the NFL and the third-most in the NFC. Arians won 50 total games in Arizona (49 regular season, one postseason), finishing his time there as the winningest coach in franchise history. His 49 regular season wins are also the most by any coach in Cardinals history.

Arians posted three seasons with double-digit wins as the head coach of the Cardinals, including tying the then-franchise best with 11 in 2014. The following season, Arizona established a new franchise record with 13 wins, which also featured the team’s first-ever postseason bye and second-ever appearance in the NFC Championship Game.

Under Arians, the Cardinals offense set several single-season team records, including points scored (489 in 2015), total touchdowns (59 in 2015), total net yards (6,533 in 2015) and first downs (373 in 2015). Arians also helped coach individual players to some of the best seasons of their careers. In 2015, Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer set franchise records for passing yards (4,671), passing touchdowns (35), yards per attempt (8.70) and passer rating (104.6) en route to a Pro Bowl selection. In 2016, running back David Johnson established new team records for rushing touchdowns (16), total touchdowns (20) and yards from scrimmage (2,118), while leading the NFL in total touchdowns and yards from scrimmage. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald posted the top three seasons for receptions in Cardinals history under Arians and ranked third in the NFL in catches during that span.

BRUCE ARIANS

Arians came to Arizona after spending the 2012 season with Indianapolis. Hired as the team’s offensive coordinator, he also served as the team’s interim coach for 12 games while head coach Chuck Pagano was treated for leukemia. He led the Colts to a 9-3 record and was selected as the 2012 AP NFL Coach of the Year. Indianapolis’ nine-win improvement (2-14 to 11-5) matched the third-largest single-season turnaround in NFL history.

Arians helped the Colts’ offense rank 10th in the NFL in yards (362.4 ypg) and seventh in passing yards (258.0 ypg). Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck – the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft – made the Pro Bowl and set rookie records for passing yards (4,374) and 300-yard passing games (six). He also established the NFL single-game rookie record for passing yards (433, 11/4 vs. Miami). Luck finished with the then-third-most passing touchdowns by a rookie in NFL history, with 23.

Prior to his time with the Colts, Arians spent eight seasons with the Steelers, five as offensive coordinator (2007-11) and three as the wide receivers coach (2004-06). During his tenure as the offensive coordinator, the Steelers had a 55-25 record, tying Green Bay for the second-best mark in the NFL during that span. Pittsburgh won three AFC North Division titles, two AFC Championships and earned a victory in Super Bowl XLIII over the Cardinals. Arians was also part of the Steelers’ Super Bowl XL win as the team’s wide receivers coach.

Under Arians’ guidance, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger put together some of the best seasons in team history, establishing a then-franchise record with 32 touchdown passes in 2007, recording a then-team record 4,328 passing yards in 2009 and registering a career-high and Steelers-record 104.1 passer rating in 2007. Roethlisberger earned his first career Pro Bowl selection in 2007 under Arians.

In 2009, the Steelers’ offense became the first team in NFL history to have a 4,000-yard passer (Roethlisberger), two 1,000-yard receivers (Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward) and a 1,000-yard rusher (Rashard Mendenhall) in the same season.

Before joining the Steelers, Arians spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns (2001-03). He joined Cleveland after spending three seasons with the Colts as the team’s quarterbacks coach. Working with offensive coordinator Tom Moore, Arians helped tutor Peyton Manning during his first three seasons in the league and helped him earn Pro Bowl berths in 1999 and 2000.

Arians’ first NFL job was with the Kansas City Chiefs, working as the team’s running backs coach for four seasons (1989-92). There he helped Christian Okoye to two Pro Bowl selections (1989, 1991). Arians also spent the 1996 season as the tight ends coach for the New Orleans Saints.

Arians’ coaching career began as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Virginia Tech, in 1975, before being elevated to running backs coach in 1977. He spent 1978-80 with Mississippi State as the school’s running backs/wide receivers coach before coaching the running backs at Alabama for two seasons (1981-82) under legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. Arians would later return to Mississippi State (1993-95) and Alabama (1997) to serve as the offensive coordinator for the respective schools. He became one of the youngest head coaches in Division I history when Temple University hired him in 1983 at the age of 30. He spent six seasons coaching the Owls (1983-88).

Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Arians grew up in York, Pennsylvania, and played quarterback at Virginia Tech. He and his wife, Christine, have two children – son, Jake, and daughter, Kristi Anne, as well as a granddaughter, Presley and a grandson, Aiden.

NOTABLE VETERANS ACQUIRED BY LICHT IN TAMPA BAYOver the past two seasons, Licht has transformed the Buccaneers defense with a combination of draft picks and free agents.

Shaquil Barrett, signed during the 2019 free agency period, had a breakout year for Tampa Bay, etching his name into the franchise record books and earning the first Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors of his six-year career. He became the first player in team history to lead the NFL in sacks after posting a franchise-record 19.5 in 2019, while tying for first in the NFL with 37 quarterback hits, ranking second in the league with 19 tackles for loss and finishing third with six forced fumbles. His 19.5 sacks are the most in a season by an undrafted player since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.

Carl Nassib, who was acquired off waivers from Cleveland in 2018, quickly earned the respect of his peers, being named a defensive captain in 2019. The fourth-year outside linebacker has posted 46 tackles (20 for loss), 25 quarterback hits, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in his first two seasons with the Buccaneers.

Jason Pierre-Paul, acquired via trade from the New York Giants in the 2018 offseason, has made his presence immediately felt in the front seven, as he has amassed 21.0 sacks since joining Tampa Bay - the most by any Buccaneers player in that time. His 21.0 sacks over the past two seasons are tied for the 11th-most in the NFL in that span. In addition to his 36 quarterback hits, 25 tackles for loss, 21.0 sacks and three forced fumbles, Pierre-Paul has also been a vocal leader in the locker room, helping to expedite the team's defensive turnaround.
