GROUND WATER POSITION
• Due to satisfactory rain in summer season, ground water level increased significantly in the State– Water Level raised in 22 districts
• More than 4 meters - 1 district (Theni)
• 2 – 4 meters - 4 districts– Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Tirunelveli
• Less than 2 meters - 17 districts
– Water level decreased in 10 districts• Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Dharmapuri,
Krishnagiri, Villupuram, Trichy, Thanjavur and The Nilgiris

Action Plan for drought Management
• Promotion & use of –Extra Early Maturity (<100 days) varieties
Anna-4,ADT 48 , MDU 5, Anjali & Prasanna for paddy,Seed plan prepared–Using higher seed rate–Potash spray(2%) for drought tolerance
to tide over the short dry spell.
Action Plan
Management practices
–Promotion of community nursery and mass machanised planting
–Direct sowing using Gorru under dry condition
–Use of drum seeder under puddled condition to skip nursery preparation, early maturation & to reduce water usage
– Encouraging less water requiring short duration pulses / millets.
OTHER STATE’S INITIATIVES
• A Separate agency for ensuring availability of quality seeds constituted
• Interest free loan of Rs.150 Crores to TANFED for facilitating the availability of chemical fertilizers
• Rainfed Area Development Programmed with more focus to minor millets and livestock
• Village level awareness programme for summer ploughing, rat control, IPM measures.
