F our-time Grammy® Award-Winning Producer and Recording Editor, Thomas C. Moore was a founding member and President of Five/Four Productions, Ltd, which is a full-service independent audio production
company that uses the latest technology and proprietary processes to create the world’s most acclaimed recordings. Before co-founding Five/Four Productions, Thom served as Producer and Senior Recording Editor for the world renowned Telarc International in Cleveland, Ohio. He started his career in the audio production world as a part-time recording editor, and quickly incorporated his expertise as a performing musician to become one of the most highly sought out Recording Producers and Editors.
After seven years at Telarc, Thom won two Grammy® Awards for producing the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s recording of Ralph Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony, Best Classical Album and Best Choral Performance, 2003. That year, he met David Balakrishnan, founder of the Turtle Island Quartet. That meeting resulted in a collaboration with the Ying Quartet for the recording of their project titled 4 + Four. The following year, Thom would be accepting another Grammy® Award for producing the Best Classical Crossover Album, 2005. In that same year, he was nominated as Producer of the Year by the Grammy® Awards and was awarded Outstanding Producer of the Year by the OUTmusic Awards held in New York City. Thom and the Turtle Island Quartet would again collaborate on a project in 2008 titled A Love Supreme which would win him his fourth Grammy® Award. He was the co-founder and served as principal oboe with Red {an orchestra}, and was principal oboe with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland Opera Orchestra, Cleveland Ballet Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra and Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra. He performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York City, and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. He performed extensively throughout Europe where he served as Solo First Oboist of the first Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. While there he worked with conductors Leonard Bernstein and Sergiu Celibidache. Thom was also a passionate educator who shared his knowledge with joy and ease with his fortunate students.
Thom is survived by his loving husband Douglas Bunker, his parents Sally and Richard Moore, his sisters Sara-Lynn and Karen, many beloved family members on both the Moore and Bunker sides, his loving cat Ernie, and his stunning rose garden. He is deeply loved by his friends, colleagues, students and is missed beyond measure. This memorial concert is presented at the request of Doug Bunker, in loving honor and memory of Thom. All artists and production staff have graciously donated their time and talents. In Thom’s spirit and with his integrity, may we go on to do good works in his memory.
