The Calgary Exhibition & Stampede facilities are also a centre for year-round entertainment. You’ll find high-profile concerts at the Pengrowth Saddledome,—home to Calgary’s NHL, WHL and lacrosse teams, the Flames, the Hitmen and the Roughnecks. Worth noting: The first Calgary Exhibition & Stampede was in 1886. It included the richest rodeo in North America with $20,000 in prizes. Directions You can reach the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede grounds from downtown by two routes. Route A is scenic. Route B is more direct. Route A Start at the Eau Claire Trans Canada Trail Pavilion. Travel east along the Bow River Pathway (with the river on your left). You will pass a number of bridges including the Centre Street bridge, the Harry Kroeger CTrain bridge, and the GC King pedestrian bridge. Follow the pathway south as it bends along the Elbow River and underneath the Inglewood bridge at Ninth Avenue S.E. Continue until the pathway connects to the road at 14th Avenue S.E. then turn right and travel two blocks west. Turn left onto Olympic Way to enter the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede grounds. Route B Start at Centre Street, on the north side of Ninth Avenue S.E across from the Calgary Tower. Travel one block east (with the tower on your right) before turning right onto First Street S.E. Go south four blocks. Turn left onto 12th Avenue S.E. Travel east for two blocks. Turn right onto Olympic Way to enter the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede grounds.
