Tainos: a group of people who lived in Central and

South America

What was life like? Lived in villages. They were farmers. They appreciated art. Peaceful people.

Conflict Spanish explorers come and meet the

Tainos. Christopher Columbus described them described

them as, “Well formed, with handsome bodies and good faces… They should be good and intelligent servants…”

Many were removed from their homelands (displaced) to strange lands to serve the Spaniards in their plantations.

African peoples Many African people were kidnapped and were

forced to migrate by Europeans to the America’s to serve as slaves along with the indigenous people.

“One day, when all our people were gone out to their works as usual, and only I and my dear sister were left to mind the house, two men and a woman got over our walls, and in a moment seized us both, and, without giving us time to cry out, or make resistance, they stopped our mouths, and ran off with us into the nearest wood. “~ Olaudah Equiano
