Regrettably, the cost of printing and mailing the newsletters has gone up dramatically in the past few years. To the point that PGMC is forced to raise the cost added to your membership to $24. If you would like to continue to have the newsletter mailed to you, please add that amount to your annual dues and see either Linda Loschke or Debbie Ramsey. SHANE SLAY – VICE PRESIDENT FIELD TRIPSField Trip Report – Twenty people went on the trip to Luna/Reserve, New Mexico, October 28-

30. We found some awesome stuff; will have some samples at the general meeting.

The December field trip will be on December 19th to the Tonopah, AZ area (west of Phoenix),

for fire agate. Mike Brody will lead the trip. We will meet at Waffles and More on Iron Springs

Road at 8 a.m. (about an hour and half drive). Regular vehicle okay. High clearance or 4-wheel drive vehicle not necessary.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGEThis month is our elections. We have 4 Board positions up for election – President, VP for Field

Trips, Independent Director, and Club Liaison. Currently, we have someone running for each

position. You can still nominate yourself or someone else. Please contact Mike Rowe at (239) 887-

1113 or [email protected] to nominate someone.

Open enrollment for 2017 Spring Semester at Yavapai College started October 31. Semester runs from January 17-May 5. If

you are a first time student in Lapidary 1, Lapidary II, Jewelry I or Jewelry II, you can apply for a club scholarship for these

classes. The Club will reimburse your tuition. To apply, go to our website at www.prescottgemmineral.org and click on the

Scholarship button for instructions.

The Club still has the Educational Fluorescent Mineral kits for sale at Club cost of $32.50. I will have some for sale at the

meeting.

Don’t forget the Holiday Party Raffle prizes. You can bring your donation(s) to this month’s meeting and give it to the Raffle

Ladies. I’m sure they would appreciate early

POSITIONS UP FOR ELECTION THIS DECEMBER

President

The President provides overall leadership for the Club. With the Executive Board, the President defines and

promotes the long-term goals and objectives of the Club. Preside over the monthly General and Board Meetings.

Independent Director

The primary duty of this position is to be well versed in the legalities of the Club which includes, but is not limited

to, the Club By-Laws, Articles of Incorporation, Club status, requirements and conditions as to taxes and 501(c)(3)

status, Arizona State tax status and requirements including Corporations Commission certification. In addition, the

Independent Director should be familiar with Roberts Rules of Order and any other pertinent documentation, such

as the duties and legal obligations of Club Officers and Directors.

Vice President for Field Trips

The Vice President for Field Trips is responsible for coordination of the monthly field trips to collect rocks,

minerals and fossils. The Field Trip Leader will head a committee, who will plan the upcoming Club field trips,

taking into account the season of the year and the location of the sites. Trip Leader should be familiar with the

collection site, be equipped with maps and a GPS (if possible).

Club Liaison

The Club Liaison is the liaison to the Rocky Federation of Mineralogical Societies (RMFMS), the American

Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS), and any other club or society. The Club Liaison is also the liaison

to the Prescott and Prescott Valley Chambers of Commerce and is responsible for reviewing Chambers of

Commerce bulletins and reporting to Club members activities that may be of interest.

Minutes of Meeting of the Prescott Gem and Mineral Club – Oct 1st, 2016The meeting was held at the Moose Lodge, 6501 East 6th Street, Prescott Valley, AZ.

The meeting was called to order at 9:35 AM by President Linda Loschke and she led us in the Pledge of

Allegiance.

All board members were present except Shane Slay, Dan Hunt and Melanie Capps.

The treasurer’s report was given. There is $3,288.78 in the Club Checking Account, $14,543.27 in the Club

Savings Account, and $153.90 in the Escrow Account, and $45,502.53 in the Money Market Account for a total of

$63,789.49. The treasurer’s report will be filed.

Nick Saccketti reported on Programs. Steve Maslansky will talk about minerals today. Next month Pat McMahan

will give a program on agates with faces. December is our holiday party. We need some nice donations of jewelry

or other items for the raffle for that month.

Linda talked about the Field Trips since Shane was not present. The last field trip was to Browns Crossing for

agate. The trip for October 28-30 is to Apache Creek near Reserve, New Mexico.

Karyn Bee reported on the Junior Rockhound program. They will be having their lapidary work shop class next

month. They will be going to Camp Verde to look for Glauberites and they just went on a trip to the Salt mine.

Someone is still needed to take over the Junior Rockhounds for next year.

Debbie Ramsey reported on Membership. There were 57 members present and 3 new members and no guests.

Linda asked if there were any corrections to the minutes from September. There were no corrections. Vince

Albert made a motion to accept the minutes as written, Dana Ramsey seconded and the motion passed. The

minutes will be filed.

Stephanie Allen reported that she went to a lecture on BLM land management and it was very interesting in

regards to the future of the land the public will have access to.

Mike Rowe is in charge of elections. We have at least one candidate for each position. The election will be at next

month’s meeting and all paid members will receive a ballot when they arrive.

Steve Dudar reported that 81 hours were used at the workshop and 10 new members signed up for the workshop

class. One of the workshop days is being changed from Thursday to Friday in late October.

John Munday talked about moving the storage container from the Fairgrounds to the Albert’s property in Chino. If

it goes to their property we will save at least $500 per year.

John Munday made a motion to take a break, Mike Rowe seconded it and a 20 minute break was taken.

After the break Nick introduced Steve Maslansky to talk about the value of minerals.

Ron Whorton made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Paul Gremminger seconded it and the meeting adjourned at

11:30. The raffle was held.

Minutes of Board Meeting of the Prescott Gem and Mineral Club – October 20th, 2016The meeting was held at the club workshop, 438 Montezuma, Suite B, Prescott, Arizona, and called to

order at 5:00 pm. by President Linda Loschke. Other officers in attendance were John Munday, Ronnie

Whorton, Nick Saccketti, Stephanie Allen, Melanie Capps, Shane Slay and Dan Hunt. Colleen Denton was

present as a guest. Doug Wending was not present.

There are no corrections to the September board meeting minutes, moved to accept as written by Stephanie,

seconded by Melanie, voted on and approved as written.

Nick reports that Pat McMahan will give a presentation at the November general meeting. Nick is working on

presentations for next year. Linda mentions that last year there were two months in a row we didn't have a

program and there were a lot of complaints. We had the raffle in April and the Spring Fling in May. Linda informs

the board we need to move the Spring Fling to June.

Shane reports that he has a field trip to Apache Creek, New Mexico for October 28, 29 and 30.

Linda mentions she got a call from the Sedona club and explained to them we're not part of the coalition anymore.

The coalition gave us August to host a coalition field trip. We don't do a field trip in August. So we dropped out

of the coalition.

There is no trip planned yet for November. Shane will work on planning November and December field trips.

Shane will get help on the field trips. Shane won't be at the next general meeting because he will be a vendor at

the Black Canyon City show.

Stephanie reports that the last Rocky Mountain Federation convention for 2016 is in Marietta, Georgia, November

18 through 20. The first one next year is in March in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in March.

Melanie has nothing to report.

Linda mentions that the workshop personnel recently trained 19 new members. Workshop issues are discussed.

Ronnie mentions he won't be at the next board meeting. He also mentions he's having a lapidary equipment sale at

his house right after the November general meeting.

The trailer move is discussed. Ronnie will look into getting a permit from the Town of Chino Valley for the trailer

move. Linda had called the Town of Chino Valley and found out they require a permit for placement of a storage

unit like ours.

The December club party is discussed. The board needs approval for $350 for the meats that will be catered for

the party. John moves for approval, Ronnie seconds, voted on and passed.

The board discusses club decals and T-shirts that we have for sale at meetings. It is decided that we will order 500

decals at a cost of $386.36. This is moved by Melanie and seconded by Nick, voted on and approved.

Linda talks about table cloths for the club's sales on the courthouse square. She would like to purchase table cloths

at a cost of $100. The board discuss this. John moves for approval. Ronnie seconds, voted on and approved.

Stephanie asks whether the membership knows that they can sell items at the club booth at the courthouse square.

Linda explains the club sales booth at the courthouse square and that Dayle is supposed to make announcements

about it.

Mailing of the club newsletter and cost effectiveness is discussed. Linda proposes to send a letter to the eight

people that get the newsletter mailed informing them that starting in January 2017 the price will go up. Linda will

get an exact figure from Maggi as to how much it costs. And that's what recipients of a mailed newsletter would

have to pay and do they want to continue to receive the newsletter by mail. The board will evaluate the responses

and go with what the consensus is.

Ronnie brings up the issue of geode cutting at the annual show. This is discussed. Shane mentions that the noise

brings people back to see what's going on. We have no solution to the geode cutting noise as yet. The board will

continue to work on the problem.

A copy of the final of the club budget is passed out and reviewed by the board and discussed.

A discussion of field trip budget is discussed. The board recommends that Shane submit a proposal to the board

for a field trip budget.

John moves for adjournment. Ronnie seconds, voted on and approved.

The meeting is adjourned at 6:00.

From across the region will be offering unique and interesting mineral specimens, crystals, gemstones, jewelry, beads, fossils, findings, lapidary equipment and cutting material at competitive prices.
