PROJECT JONAH AT TAHUNANUI BEACH

On the 27 of September 2015 the staff of Project Jonah are coming to Tahunanui Beach to show people how to save stranded whales. If you don`t know what Project Jonah is, it is a charity that loves to help whales that are in trouble, if they were stranded they would be there as soon as they could. They are coming to our beach to teach us how to care for marine life. - Murphy S, Rui

LIBRARY VISIT Rooms 4-7 recently went to see Esther at the library for an art lesson based on Eric Carle's illustrations. He paints onto tissue paper and then uses this paper to create his illustrations of animals. First we

painted 3 different designs on tissue paper, then we drew the outline of an animal and used the tissue paper to fill it in. It was quite tricky but we had lots of fun. - Room 7

SCHOOL SPEECH COMPETITION

Excitement and nerves collided as the six school speech finalists prepared to share their speeches. Kate, Lucy, Georgia, Henry, Isabel and Om positioned themselves to the side and anxiously waited for the (now very late) mystery judge to appear. As time ticked by, Mr Lambie decided to make way with the finals, first up was Lucy. After five more wonderful speeches, feedback was given and the judges did a team huddle in the kitchen to determine the two lucky contestants who would then go to the interschools. As Mrs Bowen reappeared silence fell over the Muritai Centre. First she congratulated all six finalists on fantastic speeches. Then three words formed on her lips: Kate and Lucy! To this day we do not know who the mystery judge was, but everyone made a great effort and well done! - By Kate and Lucy

CONGRATULATIONS

TERROR TOOTH One gloomy dark night people from church were glancing at the inky violent water. Then… something came out of nowhere, it was creeping up and out of the shadows. Next the thing plopped into the inky water. After a while the thing began to swoosh and splutter as it rushed splashing through the dark water. Suddenly he jumped on the slip-way where the village people stared in fright. The monster glared at the people with his massive red eyes and let out a screeching roar as loud as a lion. The village people nearly jumped out of their skins. They hurried off the slipway and hid behind a ginormous wall but the monster jumped over the wall and gobbled them up in one gulp. Crunch, squosh, squirt and dead! - By Erin, Room 6

Charlotte - Room 13 Charlotte is a kind and

caring member of Room 13, Tosswill Centre.

She always works hard and offers to help other

children without prompting. Well done

Charlotte!

I think all parents should do this course”.

COMMUNITY GARDEN SPACE Here in Tahunanui we have the chance to work together to create a community garden space on Muritai Street beside Burrell Park. Your part can be as big or as small as you wish. You can garden on your own, with your family or with locals. It is the chance to work on a section of garden and grow your own kai. Community gardens bring people together, at their leisure, to learn new skills. While having the benefit of providing families with a healthy and nutritious food source. They are a great way to teach people how to go about growing your own food, rather than just going and buying it from a supermarket. Come to the local meeting to

share your interest. Wednesday 9 September 12pm
