TAGORE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, VASANT VIHAR ANNUAL REPORT (SESSION 2014 2015) GLOBAL OUTREACH MADAME PENG LIYUAN’S VISIT TO OUR SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2014 It was a Red letter Day for Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar when the First Lady of the People Republic of China Madame Peng Liyuan walked the red carpet rolled out in her honour on Thursday 18 September 2014.Her Excellency was apprised of the close association between the school and its sister schools in Shanghai and Jinan. She witnessed a demonstration of the virtual classroom, a mutual exchange of the cultural traditions of Tai Chi and Yoga. The classical rendition in dance, of Where the Mind is…. had her mesmerized. She complimented the students on their diction and enunciation, when they presented a Chinese song and a poem before her. This visit is sure to take the bilateral relations between the two countries further. TAGOREANS DECLARED NATIONAL WINNERS AT AWIM NATIONAL OLYMPICS 2014 IN JET TOY EVENT At the 7 th SAE AWIM National Olympics 2014 held at Pune, the team from Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar was declared the National Winners in the Jet Toy event. The team had to compete with thirty Regional Winners of the AWIM Jet-toy and Skimmer Regional Olympics, which was held earlier in thirteen cities across India. The National Champions will now represent India in the SAE International Jet Toy Event to be held in Detroit, USA in the month of April 2015.

    GLOBAL OUTREACH

    MADAME PENG LIYUAN’S VISIT TO OUR SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2014

    It was a Red letter Day for Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar when the First Lady of the

    TAGOREANS DECLARED NATIONAL WINNERS AT AWIM NATIONAL OLYMPICS 2014 IN JET TOY EVENT

    At the 7th SAE AWIM National Olympics 2014 held at Pune, the team from Tagore International

    School, Vasant Vihar was declared the National Winners in the Jet Toy event. The team had to

    compete with thirty Regional Winners of the AWIM Jet-toy and Skimmer Regional Olympics, which

    was held earlier in thirteen cities across India. The National Champions will now represent India in the

  • BREAKING BARRIERS IN NEW YORK

    In October, four students from Breaking Barriers (our LGBTQI Rights Campaign team) were invited to LREI, a progressive high school in Manhattan, to talk about our pioneering work in LGBTQI issues in India. They spent two weeks meeting organizations and conducting presentations. They attended the national GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) youth meeting, the UN Day of the Girl Summit, presented their work to the New York LGBT Educator’s Group, and met with GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) and the founders of She’s the First, an underprivileged girls’ education charity.

    EXCHANGE PROGRAM WITH SENBOKU HIGH SCHOOL, OSAKA, JAPAN

    Nine students accompanied by Ms. Yachana Villaitrani visited Japan in November 2014 as part of an exchange programme with Senboku High School in Osaka. Students from this Japanese school will visit India in August 2015.

  • Students and teachers from Ishiyama High School and Kumori Gakuen High School, Japan visited our school under Jenesys 2.0 Exchange program in July 2014. Under the same program, six students along with the Director – International Relations, Ms. Preeti Chadha visited Tokyo and Fukuoka, Japan in October 2014. We have initiated an exchange program with the Kunori Guaken High School and students and teachers from both the schools shall be visiting each other soon.

    VISIT TO BROWN UNIVERSITY, U.S.A AND SCOTLAND UNDER TGELF PROGRAM

    Selected and sponsored by The Global Education and Leadership Foundation, Kaveri Rawal of Class XII and

    Safina Amin of Class XI interned at Brown University, USA. Under the same program, Sohini Chakrabarti of

    Class X attended the Columba 1400 Student Leadership Challenge 2014 in Scotland.

    STUDY VISIT TO THE USA

    Anjali Arora of Class XII went to Northeast Pennsylvania, United States of America for a year-long exchange program in the session 2013-14.

    EXCHANGE WITH PAKISTAN

    Students and teachers visited Lahore Grammar School, Paragon City, Lahore in April and

    LGS reciprocated this by a visit to India in August.

    SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EXPO

    Our young scientists did us proud by winning two awards at the Shanghai International Youth Science

    and Technology Expo 2014 held in Shanghai, China in July 2014.

    JOY DANCING – INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S MEET

    Our students left the audience spellbound with their dances at Joy Dancing – International Children’s

    Meet in Beijing in August 2014. They were awarded the Golden Feet Award.

  • MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL YOUNG INVENTORS OLYMPIAD

    Tagoreans bagged the Silver medal at the 16th Malaysian International Young Inventors Olympiad 2014 in April

    2014. They are preparing for this year’s Olympiad and will be leaving for Malaysia on 01 April ’15.

    FRENCH DAY CELEBRATIONS

    French day was celebrated in July ’14, with the students presenting songs, skits and poems in

    French. Projects on life in France, French fashion, food and art gained appreciation from the

    French Ambassador.

    INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD

    In recognition of all our international programs and online learning projects, the British Council

    has conferred upon the school, the International School Award for 2014 – 2017.

  • AT HOME

    ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS PROGRAM

    The senior students of our school have launched an Organ Donation Awareness Campaign titled

    “Outlive Yourself”. Several activities have been planned to ensure that a maximum audience is

    reached, some of which are informative presentations, street plays, flash mobs and sculptures. The MOHAN Foundation, India’s leading NGO working on organ donation, has intensively trained our students to conduct workshops on organ donation so that we can encourage people to pledge their organs. Our goal is to have 5000 people sign up to be organ donors.

    TEACH INDIA

    Our school was one of five schools chosen as pilots for the Teach India Program. This program trains

    students to teach spoken English to members of the school’s Support Staff. Students are also trained

    in community outreach and mobilization, which includes maintaining a Facebook page, spreading

    awareness in their communities, shooting videos, talking to target audiences, etc.

  • TAGORE AWARENESS SOCIETY

    The Tagore Awareness Society was set up with the idea of providing a platform to Tagoreans to

    execute their social responsibilities. It has two goals: to promote cleanliness and to support an

    orphanage. TAS has chosen to work with the Earth Saviour’s Foundation in Vasant Kunj. They visit

    the orphanage once a month, conduct activities for the children, help them with their homework and

    donate books and eatables.

    FRIENDS FOR CHANGE

    Under the Disney Friends for Change project, the school adopted a neighbourhood park and the

    students beautified it by replacing and repairing old and broken structures, painting the walls, setting

    up bird feeders and improving the lighting. Their endeavour has been praised by the RWA and

    residents.

    TISMUN 2014

    The inaugural edition of TISMUN was conducted in June ’14. Around 400 students from across the

    country participated in it and were in awe of the arrangements, both, logistic and topical. The second

    edition is now scheduled for June ’15.

  • LEAD ON!

    Mrs. Smriti Irani (HRD Minister) and Mr. Kiran Rijuju (Minisiter of Home Affairs) addressed Heads of

    student Councils from elite schools of Delhi at LEAD ON! in November ’14.

    SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

    In the summer break of the session 2014-15, we conducted Round Two of the Internship

    Program we had started for students of Classes X-XII the previous year. We doubled the

    amount of internships offered (over 100) and targeted more industries. The students said that

    it helped them see clearly what their preferred career entailed, and hence they would be able

    to make informed choices at the right time. Their employers were full of praise for them and

    some even offered the students jobs, once they graduated.

    HERITAGE

    The students participated in an excavation drive at the Old Fort, in association with the

    Archaeological Survey of India.

    They also managed the administration, logistics and hospitality at the Qutb Minar for a full

    day, in February ’15.

  • RECOGNITION

    The School was awarded the Outstanding School, North by 9th Indy's Education Awards for

    Excellence in School Education, on 14th February 2015.

    The school has been awarded as the ' Best National Standalone School of the year 2013-2014 ' by the Indian Education Awards 2014 Committee.

    Our students did us proud at AISSCE 2014. Shikhar Garg scored the highest aggregate of 98% in SCIENCE. Niharika Wadhwawith 97.7% and Akanksha Sehrawat with 96.5% topped COMMERCE and HUMANITIES respectively. Six of our students have achieved merit certificates from CBSE for scoring in the top 0.1 % bracket successfully.

    In Class X, twelve students achieved a perfect 10 cumulative grade point, where as twenty

    three others scored a grade point between 9 and 10.

    At the National Genius Search Exams (Mains & Advanced), Udit Kapoor of Class VIII received a Gold Medal and a certificate of merit for securing the highest percentile of 92.8 at the National level. Eight other students from classes V – XII also received Gold medals and qualified for the Advanced NGSE, scoring a percentile higher than 90 at the national level.

    Dyuti Dasmahapatra of class VI C represented Delhi at 60th National school games organized

    by SGFI (School Games Federation of India) in Indore from 7th January to 11th January 2015.

    41 teams from all over India participated in the event. She participated in Karate under -17,

    36 kg weight category and secured a silver medal in the event and a scholarship of Rs.

    15000.

    Our students won the ‘Best film With a Message’ Award and the Best Cinematography Award at The Filmit India film festival organised by INTACH in Feb.'15 .

    In the prestigious Science Exhibition organized by CBSE,Chinmaya Joshi of class VII and Roshan Suresh of class X qualified at the Regional level CBSE Science Exhibition and were selected for the National round.

    Our Quizzers Devarshi Paul and Sagnik Bhattacharya of class IX secured the first position at the Regional level and the fourth position at the North Zone finals of the Heritage Quiz organized by INTACH.

    Tuhina Singh was the Regional winner from Delhi in an essay writing competition organized by 'Harit Sankalp - Care for Nature'. She also won the Gold medal at the Queen’s Royal Commonwealth Essay writing competition.

    Nehal Vijay of class VIII secured the first position at the Delhi Schools Painting Competition organised by UN Habitat, India & Indo Global Social Service Society. She won the first prize at the Interschool Poster Making Competition on Consumer Awareness’14. Another student of class XI, Ayush Saha’s message based artwork found itself being featured in the 2015 Calendar published by Indian Institute of Public Administration.

  • Our young artists beautified the subway connecting Hanuman Mandir with the Emporia in Connaught Place in an attempt to promote tribal art forms.

    Sarthak Taneja of class XI-B participated in the "Colour My Life" photography competition in April and was awarded a cheque of Rupees Eleven Thousand, a trophy and a certificate. The prize included a ten day free photography workshop; and his photograph was auctioned at an exhibition held at Epicentre, Apparel House, Gurgaon.

    The Art University, Bournemouth selected Karan Varshney’s photographs of pre-historic art as

    among the top 20 artworks presented at Dharohar, the annual festival of Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. This work will be exhibited at the Gender Defined World exhibition at India Habitat Centre in May ‘15.

    In Taekwondo, besides winning many accolades, Soumya S Chaudahary of class IXwas the

    only Black Belt invited from India to attend the Instructors’ seminar held for Senior teachers by the 'International Grand Master- LEONG WAI MENG' from Korea, who is the head of the International Taekwondo Federation.

    Vanshika Sejwal of class X won many medals at the Inter Zonal Athletic Meet for Girls

    organised by the Directorate of Education. She secured the 1st position in the Long Jump Event in the under 17 girls category. She also got 1st position in the High Jump Event in the under 17 girls’ category. At 26th North Zone Junior Athletics Championship she won the Gold Medal.

    All these achievements inspire us to aim for greater heights in the years to come.
