Welcome to Taft Law School. The following are the Preliminary steps in the financial aid process. The financial aid next steps will follow once you have completed this portion. In this process there are four steps for students to complete. Once Taft Law School receives and reviews FAFSA information from the Department of Education, additional documentation may be required. If so, Taft Law School Financial Aid Office will contact you with further instructions.

If at any time you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office at Taft Law School and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Taft Law School participates only with Federal Direct Loan Programs

Taft Law School does NOT participate in the following Federal Aid Programs:

Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Pell Grant, Academic Competitiveness Grant, National SMART Grant, and Federal Supplemental Educational

Opportunity Grant3

The Taft University System participates in the Federal Direct Loan Programs for its Juris Doctor-Attorney Track Program and Juris Doctor-Executive Track Programs taught via Telecommunications Courses only.

It is important to note that students enrolled in all other University programs (including the Juris Doctor-Attorney Track Independent Study Programs and the Juris Doctor-Executive Tract Independent Study Programs) are NOT eligible for these loans.

Federal Direct Loans are low-interest loans

for students to help pay for the cost of

a student's education after high school.

The lender is the U.S. Department of Education rather than a bank or any

other financial institution.5

All Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans for Graduate borrowers have a fixed interest rate that will be based on the first disbursement date as listed below:

5.41% on Loans first disbursed on or after July 1, 20136.21% on Loans first disbursed on or after July 1, 2014

The Department of Education will match the name you have on your application with your information on file with the Social Security Administration Data System.

Your name on all Taft enrollment and Financial Aid forms must match the name on your Social Security Card.

Under “Tools and Resources” Click on “Apply for A PIN”

If you already have a PIN skip to page #12

This will take you to the PIN Website Click on “Apply Now” Click on the “Next” button on the lower right

hand side Complete your personal information Password – Do not share your PIN with

anyone Hit “Submit”

Once you have received your PIN from the Department of Education, you will need to complete step two:

It is important that you contact the Federal Student Loan Servicer who services your loans and speak to a representative to discuss your financial status and options.

What is a Federal Student Loan Servicer?

A loan servicer is a company that handles the billing and other services on your federal student loan. The loan servicer will work with you on repayment plans and loan consolidation and will assist you with other tasks related to your federal student loan. It is important to maintain contact with your loan servicer. If your circumstances change at any time during your repayment period, your loan servicer will be able to help.

Federal Student Loan Servicers can help you with the following: Lower payments, deferment, forbearance,

etc. You can choose from several repayment plans

that are designed to meet the needs of almost any borrower, and you can switch repayment plans if your circumstances change.

You can find your Federal Student Loan Servicer(s) by reviewing your prior loan history on the National Student Loan Data System for Students website: www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/

INDEPENDENT GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL STUDENT

Students may be eligible for up to $20,500 in Federal Direct Unsubsidized loans.

Maximum Total Debt from Federal Direct Stafford Loans Upon Graduation:

$138,500 – No more than $65,500 of this amount may be in Subsidized loans

THE GRADUATE DEBT LIMIT INCLUDES FEDERAL DIRECT STAFFORD LOANS RECEIVED FOR UNDERGRADUATE

STUDY.
