Action Plans The development of an Action Plan in a TAA Activity is the tool that ensures the ongoing professional and career of the teacher involved.

The Action Plan is developed as a result of discussions between the teacher and the advisor or assessors

Recommendations to the teacher and the Action Plan must be prepared within 21 days of the observation

There should be at least two progress reviews

Advisers and assessors are offered the following points to apply when helping draw up an Action Plan.

Use a positive approach. The actual document is not negative. the negativity comes from people’s thinking.

Try to avoid use of words that could sound negative. For example: “Improve questioning technique”Could be written as: “Expand questioning technique”

Action Plan Advice

Action Plan AdviceUse the Action Plan to help lift the teacher’s self esteem.

There is nothing wrong with writing an aim that encourages a teacher to continue a demonstrated good practice, standard or attitude.

The aims, objectives and outcomes of an Action Plan should always be clear and achievable.

Performance Indicators should always be clear and well defined.

The Performance Indicator should enable to teacher to demonstrate that the objective has been carried out and has met the aim.

Action Plan AdviceSet realistic dates of review. Remember the teacher’s workload and the life span of an Action Plan and give the opportunity for the teacher to carry out his/her agred tasks thoroughly.

Explain the reasons for any of the suggestions you think should be included in an Action Plan. This can help avoid any misunderstandings.

List to any suggestions made by the teacher for inclusion. These are possibly areas of deep concern to the teacher.
