The inner purpose of the creation of all rational beings is their cognition (ma’rifah) of Allah’s existence and hence, their conscious willingness to conform their own existence to whatever they perceive of His Will and Plan.

The word for ‘worship’ in Arabic is عبادة from

the root word عبد which means “slave or servant”.

Thus our entire existence is meant to be of service to our Creator.

““(But withal) no sustenance do I ever demand of (But withal) no sustenance do I ever demand of them nor do I demand that they feed Me.”them nor do I demand that they feed Me.”

Because most people’s preoccupation with seeking a livelihood may be regarded by many to be of utmost importance, Allah SWT warns that this is utterly misleading.

Nay, Man tend to forget how they are in fact being Nurtured and Sustain by Allah Who is not in need of any. The command to serve Allah is the privilege and true reality of the purpose of our existence.

To comply – consciously engaged in serving God - will lead to our salvation – nay, the eternal reward and bliss.

And to ignore or even to succumb to heedlessness, would be doing injustice to ourselves and utterly detrimental.

Thus, what constitute ‘IBADAH, has certain conditions, rules or criteria.

““And they have been commanded no more than And they have been commanded no more than this: to worship Allah, offering Him sincere this: to worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, being True (in faith); to establish regular devotion, being True (in faith); to establish regular Prayer; and to practise regular Charity; and that is Prayer; and to practise regular Charity; and that is the Religion Right and Straight.”the Religion Right and Straight.”
