The Problem with TadHacking
(and maybe a solution)

Problem: The Barrier to Innovation is High.
• Only very heavy MVNOs and MNOs have the deep network access.• Building an MVNO is tough. It requires a high degree of skill in a broad
range of disciplines. • Even if all your want to do is change the world you need to manage
large data centers with a wide range of complex custom hardware and software.
• Large teams of specialist are required to cope with the many complex components that form the price of entry.
• There is no way to get access to the core Telco components (numbering, interconnect, SIMs, SMS, MMS, location, portability, KYC, SS7 ) without huge capital investment and 4 years of Time and sometimes GSM-A membership.
• Developers with innovative value added services that need to run ‘in carrier’ can not get sufficient access to do so.

Truphone also has a problem
• We need to fill our network– This is the imperative of any operator– Capital intensive but fill it you make a
Lot of money. $2T
• We have has a lot of success with using IP technology to innovate. We used it to record mobile calls and now have 6/10 of the top money center banks using our network.
• But we need more innovative uses – many more – to fill our network.
• So our solution is to offer Tadhackers a solution. (sorry for the Noun)
• A low barrier to entry, highly scalable interface to the Truphone network. Something like what Adwords did for Google.

Mission: Lowering the barrier to innovation from this -> to this.

Solution, Open Operator Specification
Solution, mobile Telecoms as a Service platform (mTaaS)
Provides :1. Virtualization of all telecoms components into a standardized
‘cloud’ configuration (one server type for all functions; HSS, CSCF, Webservers, Billing engines, messaging interfaces and so on).
2. Availability of these services on a variable cost model hosting centers. (No up front integration fees.) Run this with NO PROGRAMMING.
3. Developer APIs to abstract the complexity and allow non specialist developers to provide mobile telco service without high startup costs.

Since I am on a roll and I just came from the consciousness conference let me link in the strands from my last two TADHack Keynotes.
Human cognitive engine – Human cognition primitives• Face to name, name to face.• Micro Location, ‘who is sitting where?, where is my?, Don’t forget…• Tag as you go, who I met, what I learnt• Social Graph aggregation, ‘Is this the Droid/person your looking for?’• Identity mapping [Matrix], ‘How do I reach’, ‘Who is who?’• Intentionality mapping, ‘How would I best achieve the following/ solve the following
problem?’• Help me get from A to B. Not as a tool, map etc but as a friend.
All this is going to transition from tool to AI assistant over the next 5 years.
And the phones we carry and the networks they run on are going to move from Tools to friend/trusted advisor, with all the moral dilemmas that wil
l bring.
