the East Slope Walking Trail, near the north en-trance to the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, to the general public this week as part of the wastewater treatment plant expansion project.

The temporary closure is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Tues., July 9 and continue through 12:30 a.m. on Fri., July 12. This portion of the trail paral-lels Chambers Creek Road West. Visitors will notice wooden barricades placed at each end of the closed portion of the trail. The barricades will have "Trail Closed" signs attached and include the dates of the planned closure.

Pierce County residents are invited to attend an open house next week to learn more about the $353 million expansion of the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.

When completed in 2016, the new $353 million facility expansion project will increase sewer capac-ity, introduce new technologies that help protect the environment, support economic development in

Pierce County, and build the foundation for meet-ing future environmental regulations, according to Pierce County Public Works and Utilities of� cials. The project will also allow the county to repair and replace aging infrastructure at the plant. The expan-sion project will increase the plant's footprint from 49 acres to 89 acres and treatment capacity from 28.7 million gallons per day to 43 million gallons per

day. Infrastructure improvements consist of a new laboratory, rehabilitation of existing buildings, and expansion of many of the treatment facilities such as digesters, aeration basins and secondary clari� -ers. The project is funded primarily through a series of three bond sales. Additional funding comes from a Public Works Trust Fund loan, connection charges for new developments, state grants, and monthly rates collected from sewer customers.

Pierce County is working on a $353 million expansion of the Chambers Creek Regional

in Pierce County, and build the foundation for meeting future environmental regulations, according to Pierce County Public Works and

Utilities of� cials.

The United States Golf Association (USGA) an-nounced Monday it has opened corporate hospital-ity sales for the 2015 U.S. Open Championship at Chambers Bay in University Place. Locations within the hospitality venues are determined by the site-selection number assigned by the USGA as deposits are received. Options range from a table for one day in a shared hospitality venue to private facilities overlooking the � rst, seventh, 10th and 18th holes.

"Business owners and managers can provide the experience of a lifetime for clients, customers, ven-dors and employees," said Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy. "The USGA offers hospitality options for companies of every size. I encourage business owners to contact the USGA's sales team and ex-plore the opportunities to develop deep and lasting business relationships."

The U.S. Open will be held June 15-21, 2015, at Pierce County's Chambers Bay golf course. The event includes three practice-round days and four championship-round days. The USGA is planning on total attendance of 235,000 spectators, volun-teers, media, vendors and staff. General admission

ticket sales begin in June 2014. The U.S. Open has sold out for 27 consecutive years.

Hospitality sales under way for U.S. Open at Chambers Bay

put, the Tacoma Regional Convention and Vis-itor Bureau is preparing to formally unveil its new destination brand for Tacoma and Pierce County later this month.
