East of downtown is a place thatpositively impacts ourcommunity every day. It is alocation that welcomes over 160homeless persons daily ­individuals who, unwanted andwithout resources, might otherwisedrift directionless in our city.

It is Horizon House. Our buildingis located at 1033 E. WashingtonSt. but you may not notice itbecause our sign is not overly largein respect for the people that utilizeour services that do not want othersto know they are homeless. Ourdoors are open to our homelessneighbors weekdays from 7am to3pm as a place of accessingintegrated, comprehensiveservices.

First, homeless neighbors whospend nights in downtown sheltersand on the streets come to HorizonHouse each day to access phones,showers, laundry facilities, food,and a wide range of professionalservices. Neighbors meet with casemanagers to discuss their individualneeds and are referred to servicesavailable mostly on site.

Second, Horizon House assistshomeless individuals to prepare forand find employment. Many of ourhomeless neighbors have foundemployment in the downtown area;they are ending their homelessnessthrough economic self­sufficiency.We offer weekly job readinessclasses and supported job search.

Third, Horizon House StreetOutreach teams go into thedowntown area daily to identifyhomeless individuals and directthem to Horizon House and otherservice locations. We try to makesure no one is on the streetsbecause they do not feel like theyhave any options. We're an option ­a beginning point for finding shelterand permanent housing.

Horizon House SuccessesCNA Trained ­ Elnora wentthrough training and is nowemployed and housed.Chef ­ Omar went through aculinary program and is a chef at aprestigious restaurant. Ready ­ Joe came here for over ayear but informed us that he is nowready to speak to a case managerabout changing his situation.

TACKLINGHOMELESSNESSFUNDRAISINGEVENT

This year marks our 13th year ofconducting this key fundraisingevent. We are thankful that theIndianapolis Colts and Mr. JimIrsay donate the Colts Pavilion atthe Colts Training Facility to hostthis event each year.

#76 Joe Reitz and his wife Jill havehosted the event for going on 5years. They are outstanding hostsand have a great sense ofhumor. They donate their time tohost this event to support our effortshelping homeless neighbors in ourcommunity.

This is an event where you canwear your Colts attire, relax andhave fun. There are plenty ofactivities to participate inthroughout the evening. Afterguests register, they can purchasemystery bottles of wine for $25 orpurchase a chance to play theHeads or Tails game for a greatprize. One of the biggest activitiesis getting autographs from theplayers and photos taken withthem.

Meanwhile, there are silent auctionitems to check out and bid onthroughout the evening. Later, thereis a great selection of live auctionitems that are bid on publicly. AtTackling Homelessness, even thecenterpieces are up for salecontaining great Colts merchandiseand an autographed car flag.

During the program, Joe Reitzhosts a segment called "ChalkTalk" where the OffensiveLineman are all up on stage to

answer questions, talk about theseason and make fun of each other.This is always a favorite part of theevent.

Dinner is provided with a fantasticbuffet that is ready wheneverguests are and outstanding dessertsprovided by Blondie's Cookies.Complimentary wine and beer isavailable as well.

As part of the program, we tell onehomeless neighbor's story who washelped by Horizon House. This isno doubt the most poignant portionof the program. We ask guests todonate to Horizon House so we canhelp more neighbors find a path outof homelessness.

The date for the 2017 TacklingHomelessness fundraiser will bedetermined after the release of theNFL game schedule. Typically, theevent takes place on a Mondaynight in September. We will beable to determine a date by the endof April. Guests must be 21 or overto attend.

Every year TacklingHomelessness sells out with 400guests in attendance. With helpfrom the Colts, this event is popularand always fun. For HorizonHouse, this is our main fundraisingevent generating much neededrevenue for vital programs that helpour community's most vulnerable.
