reservesofoilin2014are3.6billionbarrelsandonlylastfor13yearswithcurrentproductionlevel.Whiletheprovenreservesofgasin2014are100.3TCFandonlylastfor34years.Thisassumpsionisbasedontheabsenceofnewdiscoveries.

Despitetheprovenoilandgasreservesdecline,thedomesticoilproductionshouldbeincreasedtomeetthedomesticdemand.Inordertoincreaseoilproductionto700,000barrelsperdayin2019,theGovernmentisacceleratingarefinerydevelopmentthroughRefineryDevelopmentMasterPlan(DRMP)programin5existingPertaminarefinerylocations(RDMPRUDumai,Plaju,Cilacap,Balikpapan,andBalongan)withtotalinvestmentofUS$15-20million.

Inlinewithefforttoincreaseoilandgasproduction,theGovernmentisfocusingonmineralvalueaddedasmandatedbyLawNo.4of2009onMineralandCoalMining.In2009,thereareplantocomplete7ironoresmelterwithtotalinvestmentofUS$99,817millionand10nickeloresmelterwithtotalinvestmentofUS$4,224million.TheGovernmentofIndonesiacommittedtogivesupportinsmelterinvestmentsinIndonesia.

Mainstreamingofnewrenewableenergyupto23%inthenationalenergymixby2025asmandatedbyNationalEnergyPlan.Geothermalbecamethemainfocusfordevelopmentinadditiontootherenergy.ThatisbecauseIndonesiahasabundantresourcesofgeothermalandthebiggestgeothermalpotentialintheworld,scatteredalongvolcanobeltfromSumatera,Jaca,Bali,NusaTenggara,NorthSulawesi,andMaluku.RefferingtoresearchofGeologicalAgency,itidentified312geothermalpotentialwithtotalcapacity29,910MWandtotalreservesare16,524MW.However,theinstalledcapacityofgeothermalpowerplantsby2014reached1403.5MWor4.9%ofexistingpotential.Targetinstalledcapacityofgeothermalpowerplantsin2019are3,195MW.

In2010,theinstalledcapacityofgeothermalpowerplantsare1,189MWandincreasein2014to1,403.5MW.Additionalcapacityofgeothermalpowerplantsduringtheperiod2010-2014are214.5MW.Thegeothermalpowerinstalledcapacityisonly4%ofIndonesia’sgeothermalpotentialaround28.000MW.Inordertoincreasethegeneratingcapacityinthefuture,itset65GeothermalWorkingArea(WKP),consistingof19existingWKPand46WKPwhichissuedafterGeothermalLawisenacted.Inaddition,inordertoincreasedevelopmentofgeothermal,ithasmadesomebreakthroughs,includingharmonizedandimprovementofgeothermalregulations.
