The Organizing Committee, the Brazilian Geophysical Society Board and the Steering Committee of the 15th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society would like to welcome all attendees to this year’s Conference and Exposition (EXPOGEf). It has been a pleasure to work in the organization of this event, the largest Geophysical conference in South America and the one that brings together the widest group of professionals, scientists, educators and students from several different disciplines in Geoscience.

It is the right time for societies to open the communication channels between the universities, research centers, industry, service sector and the regular professional. Thinking in bringing new ideas for the Meeting, in this edition, the EXPOGEf has an E&P Pavilion, where O&G companies are present bringing their experience and availability for technical and business discussions with the geophysical community. The Conference will begin with an Opening Forum, where some of the most influent Oil and Gas executives, from companies with large investments in Brazil and abroad will openly discuss the challenges and opportunities in the O&G sector. Also, the attendees can enjoy the Tech Theater, in the Exposition area, where several IT companies will present their HPC, data management and visualization solutions for applied geophysics.

The Organizing Committee has worked closely with operators, government agencies, geophysical service, software and hardware providers both large and small ones, to help them structure their showcase opportunity in the EXPOGEf. Besides the effort in the committees, it is time to thank our geophysical community who has surpassed all the targets we have set regarding collaboration on this year’s edition, as paper reviewers, contributors, workshop organizers, forum or course schedule and preparation. The list of 17 short courses is a must attend and covers a wide range of disciplines and applications in Geophysics.

Finally, we would like to invite you to our closing dinner on Wednesday evening. This year we will meet at “Clube Caiçaras”, with a beautiful view of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and to the Christ The Redeemer. This traditional social gathering is being carefully prepared to make your evening remarkable.

Rio has a magnificent natural beauty so during your time off make sure to visit some of Rio’s best spots, such as Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf. Cultural options are also available at the Museum of Tomorrow, Museum of Modern Art (MAM), Rio’s Art Museum(MAR) or the expositions at the beautiful CCBB. Hikers who may enjoy an extra day off should look into “Pedra Bonita”, “Pico da Tijuca” or “Pedra da Gávea” trails, offered by regular hiking tour agencies.

Hope you get the most out of our Conference, meet old friends, make new ones and enjoy you time in Rio de Janeiro!

On trend. Under explored. The Campos Basin blocks in offshore Sector SC-AP3 will be included in Exploration Bid Round 14 which is scheduled to take place in September 2017. The bid round blocks are located outside of the pre-salt polygon as defined by the ANP. Most of the bid round blocks within Sector AP-3 are covered by the TGS Olho de Boi 3D multi-client survey, which covers a surface area of 5,768 km2. The ANP has identified several leads within the pre-salt play over these blocks and has estimated ~13 billion bbl of unrisked volumes in place.

The data was acquired by Dolphin Geophysical in 2013/2014. Processing was completed by TGS in 2015, and Pre-stack time (Kirchhoff PSTM), Pre-stack depth (TTI Kirchhoff PSDM & TTI RTM PSDM) and TGS/WG 2d TTI depth migration products are currently available for license.

The Brazilian Geophysical Society (SBGf) and the Organizing Committee is delighted to welcome all delegates and exhibitors to the 15th International Congress of the SBGf.

The 2017 edition of the Conference and Exhibition is again hosted in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro, home of the 2016 Olympic Games. Oil & Gas, mining and engineering companies, from large to small size, service companies, Universities and technology centers, professional and associated societies in all geoscience spectra will be collaborating in this year’s event.

The world is changing rapidly, with the energy industry showing trends that unequivocally points to a strong use of technology in all aspects of the business. In the always challenging subsurface characterization for the exploration of natural resources, integration of all Geophysical data seems to be the right choice to reduce exploration risk and maximize the return over investment. We believe in the collaboration between industry and universities, and we have prepared this year’s conference and exhibition to help and support this collaboration.

The exhibition hall of the 2017 edition is joining oil and service companies, equipment manufacturers, scientific and associated societies, once again completed by the Tech Theater, where IT companies will be sharing their latest technologies. The 2017 edition innovates providing a dedicated 120sq. meters of floor area available for E&P companies to share their experience and host their invited participants, the E&P Pavilion.

Challenging times call for innovation and collaboration. There’s no question about doing more with less. That principle has moved us to prepare the 2017 edition of the Conference and Exhibition. We sincerely hope that you appreciate the show as much as we have preparing all the details for this year’s edition. Thanks for coming, hope you enjoy every minute of it!

Challenge Bowl2 August, at 9am, at Prainha roomOne of the most important activities that the SEG propose to students is the Challenge Bowl. In this contest, the teams formed by two students have to answer questions about geosciences and the SEG. The format consists of country contests all over the world. Then the winners take part of the regional finals and the winners of these finals are sent to a world final that takes place during the SEG Annual Meeting. Great activity for them, as they can show their skills and at the same time start their network in the industry.

EAGE GEO-QUIZ2 August, at 2pm, at Prainha room. Registration at EAGE booth. The first EAGE Geo-Quiz was held in 2007 in London and nowadays it is one of the most popular features in the EAGE student programmes. The EAGE Geo-Quiz is a source of enjoyment and interactive way to test your knowledge and skills by competing with and against fellow students from all over the world. Due to its proven success at EAGE’s Annual Meetings, the Regional Geo Quiz was introduced.

Students are invited to participate in the EAGE Geo-Quiz, to put their learned knowledge and skills to the test and compete with and against fellow students!

The winning student team will receive travel grants to the 80thEAGE Conference & Exhibition 2018, (11-14 June, Copenhagen, Denmark) and in the Global Geoquiz in the Conference the prizes are fantastic electronic devices.
