This first class in a three part Positive Discipline series introduces attendees to the basic concepts to this methodology of raising responsible children . Participants are encouraged to attend all classes to gain the full benefit although each class can stand alone .

Description: This course is designed to assist resource families with a basic overview of the newly implemented Resource Family Approval (RFA) process . This class will take a look at how families can work with the County Department of Public Social Services to become familiar with the written directives and requirements to meet the approval process .

Reasonable and Prudent Parent Standards (Erica Frontino)Wednesday, August 8: Noon - 2 pm

Description: This course is designed to support and educate resource families about WandIC Section 362 .05, “Reasonable and prudent parent standards” .

Everyday, resource families make important decisions about their children’s activities and must consider licensing or approval laws and regulations to ensure the health and safety of children in their care . This class will assist resource families in defining what reasonable and prudent parenting is . How to corroboratively work with social workers and birth parents in relation to reasonable and prudent parenting . What is short-term care vs . respite care? How reasonable and prudent parent standards empower resource families to help them make careful and sensible parental decisions that maintain the child’s health, safety, and best interests .

Description: Is healthy eating achievable on a budget? Absolutely! This class will explore how caregivers can create a healthier lifestyle for themselves and children in their care without costing a mint . The five components of good health, how to encourage good nutrition by getting a “daily dose of color,” healthy snacks for the family, and family activities to promote exercise are just some of the topics to be explored .

They need to know what the guidelines and expectations are and how to stay within those boundaries . In this class we will discuss how to implement boundaries that will help our children feel safe and give them the “guardrails” they need as they navigate life .

Description: The majority of trafficking victims in the United States are our own American children . The primary way they are exploited is sex trafficking . The official term is Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children or CSEC . The goal of this training is to equip care providers with the knowledge they need to be aware of and identify children in their care who are at risk of or already have fallen victim to this atrocity .

All classes are subject to cancellation should we not receive sufficient pre-registrations . Register to receive the most updated class information!

How much do the trainings cost?

• All trainings are FREE of charge

Who can come to the trainings?

• Prospective Foster/Adoptive (Resource Parents)

• Licensed County Foster/ Adoptive Parents• Foster Family Agency Foster Parents and

Staff• Kinship Caregivers (both formal and informal)• These classes are not generally for birth

parents

Can children come to these classes?

• NO . No one under the age of 18 is permitted to attend these trainings due to the lack of childcare, and content presented in the classes is inappropriate for children .

Where do I start if I want to become a licensed foster/adoptive parent in Riverside County?

• Call 1 (800) 665-5437 to sign up for the mandatory orientation .

How many training hours are required?

• Each licensed County Foster/Adoptive Parent is required to complete a minimum of eight hours of approved training each year .

• Kinship Caregivers are not required to complete training, but are strongly encouraged .

• FKCE classes may be applicable towards “D-Rate” in-service renewal hours (please seek pre-approval from a Los Angeles county worker prior to attending the workshops) .
