CN8000isdesignedforleveldetectionandsimplepumpcontrolinavarietyofapplications: •Liquids,solids(powderandgranules),slurries,interfacedetection(forexample,oil/water),andfoamdetection •Foodsandpharmaceuticals •Chemicalandpetrochemical •Highpressureandtemperature
Function CN8000isaversatilecapacitanceswitch,idealforleveldetectionofinterfaces,solids,liquids,slurries,andfoam,andforsimplepumpcontrol.
Theswitchrespondstothepresenceofanymaterialwitharelativedielectricconstantof1.5ormorebydetectingachangeincapacitance,whichisregisteredasachangeinoscillatingfrequency.
Theswitchcanbesettodetectbeforecontactoroncontactwiththeprobe.ThedesignoftheCN8000allowstheinstrumenttooperateindependentlyofthetankwallorpipe,soitdoesnotrequireanexternalreferenceelectrodeforleveldetectioninanonconductivevesselsuchasconcreteorplastic.
Thepowersupplyisgalvanicallyisolated.
Thematerialsusedintheprobeconstructionprovideahighlevelofchemicalresistance,andanexcellenttemperatureratingontheprocesswettedportionoftheprobe:upto125°C(257°F).
CN8000isavailableintwomodels:thestandardmodel,andthedigitalmodelwithintegrallocaldisplay.

Programming
CN8000carriesoutitslevelmeasurementfunctionaccordingtothesetofbuilt-inparameters.Youcanmakeparameterchangeslocallyviathelocaluserinterface,orfromaremotelocationviaaPCusingSIMATICPDMsoftware.
CN8000Digitalcanbeusedeither:
•asastandaloneunit,programmedlocallyusingtheLocalUserInterface,or •installedaspartofanetwork,programmedremotelyusingSIMATICPDMonProfibusPAnetwork(orlocally usingtheLocalUserInterface).
Alarm signalling
Thesolid-stateswitchcanbesettoreacteithertoadiagnosedfaultintheinstrument,ortoachangeintheprocesslevel. Fault Signalling
CN8000canactivelyreportinformationonitsownstatusviaPROFIBUSPAwhenusedaspartofanetwork,orbymeansofapre-definedoutputstatusatthesolidstateswitchandontheLocalUserInterface(LUI).

Determinetherequiredcablelength,andsubtractthatamountfromtheactuallength,tofindtheexcesslengthtocutoff.Forexample:10m(actuallength)minus9m(requiredlength)=1m(excess)
Steps1.Unscrewthecableglandcompressionnuttorelievethesealingconeandreleasethecable.
2.Unscrewtheprobesleevefromthelowerassemblyusingtwo17mm(0.67")wrenchesacrosstheflatsurfaces,asshownbelow.
a.Placetwowrenchesontheflatsurfacesoftheprobeasshown:holdthe probesleevestill,andturnthelowerwrenchcounter-clockwisetoloosen theprobelowerassembly.
b.Removethelowerassemblybyturningthethreadedelectrodeend counter-clockwise:thisexposesthethreeleads,thetensionblock,and thesteelspacer.

7.Cutofftheexcesscable. Caution:Topreventwiresfrombeingpulledthroughthecablebundle,secureeachwireclosetowheretheouterblackjacketstopspriortostrippingcableinsulationfromit. 8.Removeapproximately75mm(3")ofcablejacket,shield,andfillerstrands.
9.Cutofftheexcesscablecore,makingsurethecutiscleanandsquare
10.Replacethesteelspacerandtensionblock,thenshortentheleadstoapproximately40mm(1.6").
11.Preparetheleadsforsoldering,andifheatshrinkisusedtoinsulatesplices,remembertoslipontheheatshrinkbeforesolderingtheleads.(Note:whiteheatshrinkhasbeenappliedtotheorangewiretosimplifycorrectconnection.) 12.Makethesolderconnectionsandpositiontheheatshrinktocompletelyinsulateeachsolderconnectionbeforeshrinkingit.

15.Addapre-twisttothewiresbeforescrewingtheprobesleeveandlowerprobeassemblytogether:holdtheprobesleevestill,andgentlyturnthelowerprobeassemblycounter-clockwiseabout5fullturns.Thisavoidsthewiresbeingbrokenwhentheprobeandprobesleeveareassembled.
16.Screwthelowerprobeassemblyclockwiseintotheprobesleeve,andtightenitwitha17mm(0.67")wrench.
17.Checkthattheinstrumentisoperatingcorrectly,usingthetestprocedure(seeexternalOperatingManual).
