Dear Model Railroader:

Welcome to our 2019 Micro-Trains Product Guide. Located in Southern Oregon, Micro-Trains manufactures premier N and Z scale rolling stock, our popular Magne-Matic® Coupler System, and a variety of model railroad tools and accessories, in our 33,000 sq ft factory. And we’ve been at it for over 46 years!

During 2019, we have an array of all new model railroad products, that we’ll be designing, tooling and producing for

you, our valued customer. This year our new tooling will include our 11th Heavyweight Passenger car, in this series; the Single Window Coach Car.

And given the popularity of our N scale DODX 68’ flat car with military loads; we’ll be producing our own injection-molded multipurpose, light 4-wheel drive military utility vehicle known as the Humvee, as the next military load for our DODX flat cars.

Already underway, Micro-Trains has been enhancing our ever-popular 40’ and 50’ box cars by lowering the car’s underframe to the rail, and offering “cored through”, injection-molded roof walks, similar to what we’ve already done with our 50’ box car roof walks. In addition, we’re modifying the cars to body-mount couplers, and where appropriate adding etched metal brake platforms to the car ends. We’re essentially making the best N scale rolling stock, even better!

In addition to tooling up all new rail cars and accessories, Micro-Trains continues the tradition of issuing prototypical railcar series during 2019; we’ll be introducing our “Farm-to-Table” Reefer series in both N and Z scale. This series will feature 12 prototypical reefer cars. We also have a number of multi-car packs planned for 2019.

Speaking of the year 2019, Micro-Trains will recognize throughout the year, the 50th anniversary of the N scale patent issued for our Magne-Matic® Couplers that revolutionized N scale model railroading! Through the years we’ve seen a number of knock-off knuckle couplers, but none have offered the reliable, hands-free coupling and uncoupling like our Magne-Matic® couplers.

Micro-Trains strongly encourages you to support your favorite model train and hobby retailers. In addition, please know that we do offer our own online retail store. This provides but one more option to shop and purchase our entire line of N and Z railcars, sets, tools and accessories.

In closing, please know all of us at Micro-Trains appreciate the interest and support of N and Z scale modelers from around the world. We look forward to offering the best trains during 2019 and beyond!

N Metal Wheel SetsLast year we introduced our all-new 33” metal wheel sets available in package form. These wheels are cast metal and blackened with plastic axles that allow for great performance and reliability. Continuing with the mission to enhance our extensive product line, we are working diligently to streamline our process so we can begin offering our rolling stock equipped with these metal wheel.

Located in beautiful southern Oregon, Micro-Trains’ 33,000 sq.ft. factory resides in the small city of Talent. For over 45 years Micro-Trains has been producing model trains, start to finish, right here in the USA. With over 50 employ-ees, our crew is dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality models in the industry and providing the highest level of service possible. Our in-house engineering and tooling departments push the limits of plastic injection mold tooling to create some of the finest models in the world. Once tooling has finished the mold and plastic has been run, the shells and related parts move on to our decorating department. The decorating process requires a variety of printing machines and special techniques to get the micro-fine print and mask detail that you find on our cars. The final stage is the as-sembly process where the cars come to life. Our assembly crew utilizes a combination of pneumatic jigs and hand assembly work to put the dozen or more pieces together for each car. We are proud that, to date, we’re the only model train company in the world that offers more than 160 styles of N and Z scale freight, passenger and locomo-tive equipment.

If you are coming to southern Oregon and would like to see our factory firsthand, contact our front office a couple days in advance and we’d be happy to give you a personal tour. Thank you for your continued support of our American-made products!

All Micro-Trains rolling stock is designed, tooled and produced in the United States.

N 78’ Single Window Coach

N UpgradesMicro-Trains Line has launched an ongoing program to upgrade many of our popular freight cars that were produced years ago. So far we have designed new underframes on our 40’ and 50’ Pullman Standard boxcar series, lowering them to correct ride height and equipped with body mount couplers. We are also adding see-through roofwalks and etched-metal brake platforms, further adding to the prototypical look of our cars.

N 78’ Single Window Coach Of all the heavyweight passenger cars built, the single window coach was one of the most common and versatile cars ever produced. Based on a NYC prototype, our new single window coach will feature fine surface details, correct interior, body mounted Magne-Matic couplers and an all-new 4-wheel passenger car truck common on local trains.

N HumveeFollowing our release of the first-ever injection-molded 1/160 scale M1 Abrams battle tank last year, Micro-Trains Line will add an injection-molded Humvee to our growing line of military vehicles. The model will be offered in kit form with a clear window insert and photo-etched stainless steel detailed parts. Metal parts include hood lift rings, rear view mirrors, mud flaps, a front brush guard and chain tie-downs. These vehicles were commonly seen being transported on the rail and are perfect for our 68’ DODX flat car.

With over 130 body styles available,we proudly offer the largest selection of N scale body styles in the industry! Our models feature details such as die-cast metal underframes, ultra-thin foot stirrups, windows, and operating doors and hatches. We also incorporate etched metal with some of our body styles to offer the most prototypical details possible. And all of our models come equipped with our Magne-Matic® couplers.

Thomas Kinkade Painter of Light™ Boxcar Series

Series Begins March 2019

Farm-To-Table Reefer Series

Thomas Kinkade, the Painter of Light™, emphasized simple pleasures and inspirational messages through his art – and the branded products created from that art. From textiles, to collectibles, to music and books, Thom believed that both the ability and the inspiration to create his paintings had been given to him as a gift. His goal as an artist was to touch people of all faiths and to bring peace and joy into their lives through the images he had created. This N Scale series will feature twelve remarkable Thomas Kinkade paintings on balck boxcars and will also include a locomotive and caboose. Each car will be equipped with interior lighting that can be turned on and off from the outside of the car using a wand, to illuminate the painting on the side of the car. Cars will also be available without ther interior lighting component.

Heinz Reefer Series

Moving perishables by rail began in the mid 19th century in an effort to move dressed meats beyond local urban markets. As technology advanced, by the early 20th century, anything could be quickly transported from farms to kitchens across the country. These wood-sided ice reefers were dominant revenue earners for almost 100 years until mechanical refrigeration became practical, and they also served as rolling billboards for the companies. Our series will feature twelve unique and colorful ‘produce’ reefers in both N and Z scale.

Over the years we have pro-duced short runs of cars to be used as fund-raisers, club membership specials, employee incentives, branding pieces and historical reproductions – just to name a few.

The Magne-Matic® Coupler

True-Scale Coupler

Trucks

The advent of our Magne-Matic coupling system revolutionized the model railroad industry. The Magne-Matic coupler offers the most effective and reliable “hands-free” operation in the industry, including automatic delayed recoupling.

Micro-Trains has introduced many variations and applications of the Magne-Matic system to fit most of the equipment produced by various manufacturers in the N, Z, Nn3 and HOn3 scales. To learn which coupler you need to convert your model to Magne-Matic® couplers, go to our website at www.mico-trains.com and select “Conversions” from the top navigation bar.

The ‘True-Scale’ coupler is specifically designed for accurate scale size, more prototypical features, proper scale-distance between cars and no slinky effect when operating. This easy-to-assemble and install body mount coupler consists of a draft gear box, lid, knuckle, lip shank and a separate plug-in air hose. There are no springs. They are uncoupled manually using a sharp toothpick or a needle and can be joined by simply pushing the cars together. These couplers are to scale so they will not couple with existing larger N scale couplers.
