How It Works

To understand how this system works let's say that you wanted to go to Las Vegas.

The first thing you'll do is go online and search

something like "hotels in Las Vegas".

In the search results you'll find the big online hotel

booking sites.

Let's say you click on one of them, Travelocity for

example. You go through the list of hotels on Travelocity till you find something you like.

As soon as you click on the hotel of your choice,

Travelocity gets paid for the "lead" that they've generated. A lead is when a website sends a probable customer to the hotel's website. The rate that Travelocity gets paid is decided by the hotel. This is a form of pay per click advertising.

If you like the hotel and book a room, Travelocity gets

paid again. This time it's a commission on the hotel booking. Thousands of people visit Travelocity everyday. Now can you imagine how many leads it must be generating? And

how much commission it must be earning! The secret is that you too can get in on the same sweet deal such as Travelocity or Expedia. You can do this through a website called HotelsCombined.com. This is a hotel deals website and they have a free affiliate program which allows you to build a website with similar benefits such as the big booking websites. All you have to do is put the HotelsCombined search box on your website. You can choose to create your own brand or co-brand with their website. You can create a professional looking website that is on par with bigger sites and create your own brand. Later I'll teach you how to set up this site in a matter of hours. I did this within an hour. You too can do the same with the training I'll provide in the coming chapters. You'll make money through your website in two ways: 1. When a user likes a hotel listing and clicks on it you'll earn $0.20 or more for generating a lead.

2. When a user books a hotel you get paid a commission which can be anything upwards of $4.00. Now you must have noticed, you aren't actually selling anything! The sky is the limit. So let's get started with building your website.

Building Your Website

The first step in the process is to set up your website. We'll use Weebly, a free website building tool, to create a simple yet professional website in a matter of minutes. Then we'll use the affiliate program of HotelsCombined to start earning some easy money. Let's take it step by step: 1. Sign up on HotelsCombined and Weebly. 2. Set up your Weebly website. 3. Create a brand with a custom domain name. 4. Get HTML search code from HotelsCombined and put it on Weebly. Step 1: Signing up for Success

Visit http://www.hotelscombined.com/affiliates.aspx to sign up for their free affiliate program. HotelsCombined is an affiliate network of hotels that are willing to pay you for creating leads and sales for them. You earn a little bit per lead and even more per booking. But it's not HotelsCombined paying you directly.

HotelsCombined have partnerships with other hotel companies such as Hotels.com, Expedia etc. These big booking companies earn money directly from hotels. They then pay HotelsCombined for generating leads for them. And HotelsCombined in turn pays you. You receive about 60% of what HotelsCombined earns through the leads generated by your website. As mentioned earlier a lead is when a user comes to your website and takes some action, like clicking on a hotel listing. You get paid for every lead so you don't have to wait for someone to book a hotel through your website to get paid. You can earn just by bringing visitors to your website. If they book a hotel through your website you earn even more! So hurry up and sign up on the link above. The sign up process is very easy and simple to understand. There is no approval process and you can get going in a few minutes. After this you need to go to the Weebly website (http://weebly.com) and sign up for a new account. This too is a ridiculously simple process which takes only a few minutes. Step 2: Setup Your Weebly Website

Once you sign up you will be required to select a theme for your website. This is pretty simple to do as there is no HTML code involved. You can always change the theme

later on if you want so don't feel too much pressure to choose the best theme at this point. Just start with a reasonable looking theme. The theme below is my personal favourite that I use with most of my websites. Once you've selected a theme you'd be asked to choose your website domain. There are three options available to you at this point. Let's get into some detail about the pros and cons of each option.

Use a Subdomain of Weebly.com- This option is completely free but your domain will look like this: mydomain.weebly.com. This looks unprofessional and you don't want people to think that you've been stingy with your spending as that gives the impression that you don't have confidence in your business.

Register a New Domain- This is the easiest option to choose if you want a professional domain name. The only downside is that since you will be registering a domain name through Weebly you might not get the complete range of choices as you would with a domain provider such as Namecheap.

Connect a Domain You Already Own- This option gives you the most control over your domain name. A little bit of technical knowledge is required to connect the domain but both your domain provider and Weebly support can help you if you get stuck at any point. You also need to upgrade to the starter plan to be able to connect your domain. In the next step you'll learn why this is the best option.

Once you have the domain of your choice, you can move on to building your website. The drag and drop interface of Weebly makes it extremely easy to create a beautiful looking website. After tinkering with the design of your website it's time to add a little bit of code. This code will provide the hotel search box that you will use to generate leads. Before we get into the technical bit I suggest that you check out the websites of leading hotels. These hotels spend a lot of money in researching and testing their sites to get the highest conversion rates. By designing a website similar to theirs, not only will your site look professional but it will also help improve your conversion rate. Check out this example at http://hotelscombined.com There is no need to get intimidated by this site because you don't have to make your site look exactly like this. You just need to get the general idea and adapt your own site accordingly. So let's get started with creating the first page of your website. Go to the pages menu on Weebly and select "no header". Start with the 2 column layout. The code that we get from HotelsCombined.com will be put in the left column. Tinker as you like with the rest of the site and keep testing different ideas till you get what

you want. Don't try to get everything perfect in the first go. Remember that a website is always a work in progress and you can keep improving it all the time. Step 3: Get a Domain Name

I showed the three ways in which you can choose a domain name while creating your Weebly website. But I highly recommend you choose the last option of getting a custom domain name. This will help you create a brand for your website and also make your website look professional. You can easily create a website that looks at par with the big players such as Travelocity. Having a custom domain name will help you achieve this. A brand name makes your website memorable. Just look at all the big players in the hotel niche and their brands:

Expedia.com

Travelocity.com

Hotwire.com

Hotels.com

Kayak.com

Priceline.com

These names are so unique and memorable. They create a great brand image and you want a similar effect with your domain name. There is a wonderful tool you can use to brainstorm some brand name ideas. It's called http://namemesh.com. Go to this website and enter the keywords that you want to target. For you these will be hotels, booking, reservation etc. The site will come up with some very interesting domain name options for you to consider. You can get a really good domain in this way and I suggest that you spend some time on this step as it's very important. Then use this domain in your Weebly site set up as shown in the previous step. Step 4: Set Up Your HotelsCombined Search Box

In order to show the hotel listings on your Weebly website you need to get a code from HotelsCombined and use it in your website. Now I'll show you how to get this HTML code. When you go to your account on HotelsCombined you'll see a "Private Branding" button on the sidebar menu. We

will use this because we want to create a personal brand to look professional. Next you'll need to click on the "create a new private brand" button. This option allows you to fully customize your website with your own logo. I recommend this option for best results. Now you'll be shown two options; 1) create a co-brand or 2) create a simple private brand. The first option will allow you to use your own logo on the website along with the HotelsCombined brand. You can use both brands and reap the benefits of their brand image and their customer reach. You get to create your brand as well without much effort. The second option will allow you to create a website with your own brand only. You can use pre-built templates and it's easy to set up and maintain. It is good for beginners who don't have that much technical knowledge. You can always change it later once you get used to the system. Now go to the "affiliate links" page from the sidebar menu. Click the "search boxes" button to create a new search box. Choose the "generic search box" and select your template.

Tip: Use a large template that is at least 570x376 pixels. This helps to make it more visible and attractive and helps in converting more visitors into leads.

You can customize the search box after choosing a template. To create a name for your search box click on private branding and choose the name of the private brand you created earlier. You can also choose a background image. This is not required but it makes your website aesthetically pleasing and more visitors convert into leads, so it is highly recommended. You can choose any image you want but an image with a beautiful hotel will work great. Also you can try different colors for the background. It is said that different colors entice different emotional responses from people. You'll have to try out various colors to find the one that converts best. Once your set up is complete, HotelsCombined will give you a HTML code. This code will look like this: Copy the code and go to your Weebly website. There you'll find "embed code" box. It will open a block. You can then drag the block on your website to where you want the search box to show.

Tip: Use the uppermost left corner for your search box. This way the search box is the first thing the visitors see. It will grab their attention as soon as they come to your website.

Once you have selected the location of the block, paste the code you got from HotelsCombined in this box. You should now see the search box on your website. Add whatever little embellishments you want to add to your website to make it look better. You can add more sections such as "Top Destinations", "Best Deals" etc. or add some banners and other stuff. That's it! You are all done with the website. Now you are ready to start driving traffic to your website and I'll talk about that in the next section.

Getting Traffic To Your Website

The major part of your job is done. But there is a vital second half of this process that needs to be completed. Just because you have a website doesn't mean you will start earning money. You might earn a little bit by accidental visitors but if you want to earn something more than chump change then you'll have to do a little more work in bringing traffic to your website. I'll show you two ways to bring traffic to your website: 1. A free method using Google Alerts 2. A paid method using Bing Ads. The Free Method

This is a great method if you don't want to invest money into your site. For beginners this should be a great way to get started. Once you start earning money you can invest it in paid marketing and bring even more traffic to your website and increase your earnings. In this method we will put up links to our websites on popular pages on the internet. All for free! You'll need a Gmail account for this so set it up if you don't already have one.

Now go to http://www.google.com/alerts. This is a great tool where you can set up alerts for any keyword. And everyday you'll get emails about the latest pages that have been created for that keyword. To make it simpler let's say you set up a google alert for "Cheap Hotels". You also need to select some other options as shown below. If you choose "as it happens" you'll get alerts every time a new page is created containing the keywords "cheap hotels". In this way you can stay on top of the latest content in your niche. The more alerts you set up the more traffic you can generate. So use as many keywords as you can. Find creative ways of using keywords.

Tip: Here are some ideas for creative keywords:

Sports events

World events

Any events where people will travel to and look for

Hotel names

City names

Popular destinations

Festivals

General hotel or travel related terms

There are thousands of keywords that you can create google alerts for. But remember to not go overboard or you'll drown in emails! Once your alerts are set up you'll receive the latest articles and pages from your niche right in your inbox. Now the hard work starts. You need to go to these websites and pages and comment on them. These comments can't be spamy. It needs to feel like a good comment from a human. You don't need to read the full article. Just browse through it and write a simple, short comment. Remember to include a link to your website in your comment. By commenting on the latest articles you are generating fresh inbound links to your website. This is a wonderful strategy but you need to keep some points in mind:

writing template below for you to avoid this. Don't sound like a salesman. Don't try too hard to sell your website.

Your comment should be from the point of view of

someone who was "searching for a hotel" and "found a great one" using "yourwebsite.com". This looks like

also comes in. No one will click on an unprofessional looking website name.

Comment as soon as you can on fresh websites.

Popular websites get hundreds of comments and only the earliest ones are shown below the page. So you need to get in there fast so that every visitor sees your comment. That's it with this free method. The more you do it, the more traffic you'll get, and the more money you'll make. Put aside a few minutes everyday to do this. After a while it will start showing results. I used this method as well and I know that it just requires perseverance. You need to keep posting links and sooner or later it will start showing results. Later on you can even outsource the whole process for as low as $2-$3 an hour.

Tip: This method will bring traffic to your website but you'll need to have a professional looking website for people to actually use it. If your website looks like a 7 year old built it then you won't get any leads. It's as simple as that.

I can guarantee that this method works but you have to persevere and don't quit in the middle of it. Every comment brings in a little bit of targeted traffic and these little bits add up over time to give you a big result. The Paid Method

Once your website starts earning a little bit of money you can think about moving on to the next level with paid marketing. This is known as PPC or pay per click marketing and it's a good way to increase your traffic many folds and earn to the highest of your potential. The idea is to earn a profit. You are now a business owner instead of a simple part time passive income earner. Now you are investing in your business and you need to invest wisely to turn a profit. I've only begun using PPC myself and at first I was just able to break even with it. But as I understood more about it, I started making up to 30% profit. I'm sure with a little bit of more time and effort I can reach 50% profit. You too can do the same to maximize your income. The problem that I've encountered with PPC is that we don't really know how much we are getting paid per click so it's not easy to set the rate we want to spend on our PPC marketing. If we were earning a fixed amount per click then we could simply set our PPC rate lower than what we were earning and we would get a decent profit.

But the rate we earn through HotelsCombined varies from country to country and website to website. For example, a popular tourist destination such as Miami will earn you more per click, almost around $2 per click, because the competition there between hotels is high. But you won't earn the same for hotels in Alaska.

Tip: Do not use Google Adwords for your PPC campaign. There is a lot of competition on Google and it will just be too expensive to churn a profit. Instead use Bing as the competition there is much lower and you can place cheaper ads. Take a look at these results below on Google and Bing: There are 50 people advertising on Google and only 5 on Bing. It's up to you to decide whether you want to compete with 50 people or 5. To use this method you need to create an account on Bing Ads. You need to then fill up your billing information. Tip: Set payments to manual instead of automatic. After filling your payment information start creating your campaign. Don't choose the content network advertising as it doesn't convert as well as search advertising. This happens because your ads will be shown on random websites that might have the keyword you have bid for. But people

visiting those websites might not be looking to book hotels at the time so your conversion rate will drop. Instead use search advertising so that when someone searches for your keyword your ad shows up on the search results page. Next choose exact match or phrase match while picking your keywords. Don't use broad match because it doesn't convert well. The reason is because your ad can show up on unrelated search terms with the visitor having no interest in booking a hotel. You'll need to write copy for your ad that will show up on the search engine results page. To help you I'm providing some examples that are from top converting ads on Google and Bing.

You also get to set a daily maximum budget. Set it around $50. This way you won't end up spending too much money in case there is a traffic surge on your website. Turn on your campaign and monitor it to see if you are profitable. It is very important to monitor your campaign closely in the beginning. Make sure you are profitable. If not then you need to either change something, like the ad copy or bid per click, or you need to take out the non performing keywords. Pause ads that aren't doing well and kill keywords that don't perform. Slowly you'll start seeing an increase in your profit margin as you optimize your PPC campaign. Once you are making profit you can set up more campaigns. After that it's all about scaling. Soon you'll be earning money on autopilot!

One warning I'd like to give to beginners is to hold on with their PPC campaign. At first just go for the free method and start earning some money first. Later on you can look to invest and increase your income.
