Welcome

Welcome to the 109th Assembly and Conventions of the Dallas District! Things are a little different this year. Please be patient as we work through the new shift in assembly and conventions being combined. The main purpose of this new format is to involve more people and cover more diverse age groups in exposing them to the greater mission of the "Church". To experience worship, our general leader Dr. David Busic, our missionary Rob North, our district work, and the highlight is to expose more of our family to the ordination experience on Monday night. I am excited to be sharing this first assembly with each of you that make up the family of this awesome district. It has been a year of connecting and observing the work of each of our local congregations. We are blessed to have pastor's and their families who have a true compassion to reach their community with the gospel. My prayer as we leave this time together is that each of the leaders and delegates of the local ministry in every location we have a presence will be motivated to involve your life in relational evangelism. Not just giving monetary resources to your community but living, incarnate lives into the work of reaching His kingdom where you live. Sit back as the family gathers together to enjoy the outpouring of HIs presence in all that will be done over the next 35 hours.

¡Bienvenido a la CIX Asamblea y Convenciones del Distrito Dallas! Las cosas son un poco diferentes este año. Por favor sea paciente mientras trabajamos a través del nuevo cambio en el que la asamblea y las convenciones se combinan. El propósito principal de este nuevo formato es involucrar a más personas y cubrir grupos de edad más diversos para exponerlos a la mayor misión de la "Iglesia". In making recommendations and nominations, the District Nominating Committee sought to insure that all nominees met the requirements of Manual section 34 & 113.11, and whose local home church has paid all district allocations. District Advisory Board/Junta Consultora del Distrito

The Dallas District Advisory Board reports the following actions and recommendations:

1. Interim ministerial transfers have been processed and referred to the Ministerial

Credentials Board in accordance with Manual paragraphs 223,228.9, 228.10, 434.

2. The following licensed ministers serving as pastors are recommended for granting or

renewal of district licenses: Larry Eastman (Round Up Cowboy Church), Saul Garcia

(Mount Ararat Church), Kevin Harris (Mount Pleasant Church), and Charlie Rhodes

(Faith Fellowship Church.).

3. The District Advisory Board declared the following churches as inactive: Bonham

4. The District Advisory Board approved the disorganization of Crossroads Church of the

Nazarene (declared inactive in 2014), and the dropping of the church-type mission

Camino Nuevo.

5. The District Advisory Board approved the Change of Name (“doing business as”) from

Sherman First Church of the Nazarene to Heritage Nazarene Church .

6. The District Advisory Board approved the Change of Name (“doing business as”) from

Emanuel Church of the Nazarene (in McKinney) to Renovacion Church of the Nazarene.

7. The District Advisory Board appointed Don Carter to fill a lay-member vacancy on the

Advisory Board; and appointed the following as non-voting members of the Advisory

Board: Sue Sweeney, Charky Marquis, and Ron Adams.

8. The District Advisory Board held seven regularly scheduled meetings during the 2016-

2017 church year and 2 specially called conference call meetings as requested by the

district superintendent.

9. The District Advisory Board recommends to the District Assembly that the name of the

Dallas District be changed to “North/East Texas District.

10. The recorded minutes of all District Advisory Board meetings are on file at the district

office.

Special Vote on District Name Change

The Dallas District Advisory Board has recommended to the 2017 District Assembly that

the name of the District be changed to “North / East Texas District Church of the

Nazarene”. This motion will be presented to the District Assembly on Monday

afternoon, July 10, 2017. The Manual reference for this action is Sec. 200: “The bounds

and name of a district shall be such as shall be declared by the General Boundaries

Committee and approved by a majority vote district assembly(s) involved, with the final

approval of the general superintendent having jurisdiction.”

This recommendation follows almost a year of discussion, deliberation, and prayer by

district leaders. North/East Texas is felt to be a stronger and more effective title for

today and for the future. Our district is a large section of both “North” and “East” Texas,

representing a wide diversity of cultures, ministries, economies, and communities. The

District certainly contains the Dallas metroplex, but the majority of our land area, and

the majority of our current churches and ministries, are found outside the metroplex. In

today’s world, “North/East Texas” is a more effective descriptive title for the district –

and it connects more closely in the public mind and understanding of where Nazarenes

are located in our unique geographic area.

The new name is also meant to help us connect as a district family – to provide a unity

of name that better relates who we are, and where we are proclaiming the life-changing

message of Jesus Christ: to all corners of North and East Texas. In the same way, it

calls us to a unity of purpose in worshiping together, evangelizing together, and building

together in the coming decades. Is there anything inherently wrong with the title “Dallas

District”? Not at all; we should continue to remember and cherish the hard work, strong

faith, and deep roots laid down by Nazarenes in this area since the early 1900’s under

the banner of “the Dallas District.” We seek to continue and expand that work in our

neighborhoods and communities with a new district name, a new unity of purposes, and

a new dedication to work together as “the people called Nazarenes”.

Voto Especial sobre Distrito de cambio de nombre
