BGC Impromptu Guidelines

I. What is BGC Impromptu?

- A project by the BAFI Public Art Program enhancing BGC’s street life by showcasing live performers for the BGC Community

- Gives space/venues, free-of-charge, within Bonifacio Global City to artists who would like to share their art to the public

- Open to musicians, painters, singers, dancers, mimes, jugglers, poets, orators, etc.

II. Performance Guidelines

A. Performance Information - All performances must be live and produced by the body of the artist - The only sounds permitted are music or human speech, or both. - Sounds cannot be loud or unreasonably disturbing, annoying or a nuisance to

reasonable persons or normal sensitivities within the area of audibility1. - Common sense and a “good neighbor” behavior shall prevail in sound level

assessments. - Acts must not make use of objects that can cause serious bodily injury to any person

such as: knives, swords, torches, flames, axes, saws or similar items.

B. Accepted Performance Categories

Music Analog

Open to all musicians and instrumentalists. Vocalists must be accompanied by live music or none at all. (i.e. no canned music2) Covers and re-arrangements are allowed however, original compositions are highly encouraged. Full band set-up3 is not allowed. Acoustic and jazz performers are preferred.

Digital Digital music is defined as live recording and manipulation of sounds created by the artist or instrument presently operated by the artist.

Live Art

Original designs on a flat surface to be created by the artist's hand using oils, acrylics, watercolors or dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayon or form the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush are accepted. Artist must be responsible for covering the area under and around the artwork.

Performance Art

Spoken Word Acts include poetry readings and other similar spoken word performances.

Theater

This category includes full runs or excerpts of straight plays, musicals, shadow plays and all forms of oral storytelling. Re-staging of existing works is allowed however, original works are highly encouraged.

Improv Shows Improv groups and stand-up comedians must follow a set program.

Movement Dance Performances must be choreographed.

Musical accompaniment may be live or recorded provided they are of high quality. Acrobatics

Street Performances

Open to performers that cannot be classified by any category mentioned above. Acts include but are not limited to: jugglers, magicians, mimes, ventriloquists, stunt people, balloon twisters. Performances must be choreographed or follow a set program.

1 Volume must not exceed 60dB from 10 feet away of the source of sound. 2 Canned music is defined as minus ones. 3 Full band set-up refers to set-ups that include large amplifiers or speakers, a complete drum set, or any large quantity of musical equipment that takes more than 3 minutes to set up and pull out.

C. Artistic Themes and Subjects - Performances must be appropriate for audiences of all age groups and walks of life in a

public setting. - Performances must be in good taste, apolitical and free of profane language and images - For covers and restaged works, performers must ensure the work does not infringe on

existing copyright laws. - FBDC and its subsidiaries will not be held liable for any incidents related to this matter.

III. How to Apply

A. Things to Prepare 1. Application Form Proceed to www.surveymonkey.com/s/BGCImpromptuApply to fill out an application. You will be asked to provide the following details in the application form. Please make sure that all contact information are current, operational and correctly typed out.

- Name of group and all members - Primary contact person - Cell phone number - Email Address

2. Artistic Portfolio - A maximum of three (3) video recordings are to be submitted by the performer. - Each video must be at least 2-3 minutes in length and have good visual and audio

qualities. - Videos must be unedited and accurately represent what the performer plans to do if

accepted into the program. - Videos must be uploaded onto an online video platform such as: Youtube, Vimeo, etc.

Make sure that the videos uploaded may be viewed by the public. Audio recordings on Sound Cloud will not be evaluated.

- BGC Impromptu reserves the right to revoke the permit of performances not consistent with the quality and cohesiveness of submitted videos and these guidelines.

B. Screening

- All qualified applications will be reviewed equally and fairly. - Successful applicants will be offered a spot (pending on the availability of space). - Due to the limited space and available areas, we will not be able to accept all

applicants. - BAFI will screen new applications every Monday. - Due to the high volume of applications we receive, please allow us 3-5 working days

to respond. 1. Criteria

Only the applications that meet the following criteria will be reviewed: - Creativity and originality - Quality of performance - Overall impression

2. Selection

- Reasons for not being selected: a. Incomplete or poorly accomplished application form b. Poor quality of submitted portfolio

c. Sloppiness d. Violation or past violation of BGC Impromptu guidelines

- The Performer shall have the opportunity to appeal the denial after a period of 3 months.

C. Privacy Policy In general, the purposes for which we collect your personal information include:

- To place you on our mailing list - To respond to any enquiries you may have - To be able to inform you of any special announcements

We have made the necessary steps to ensure that your personal information is protected and treated confidentially.

D. Permit - Return your permit to the FBDC Office on the last day of your performance for the

month. - Under no circumstances may a permit or time slot be “sold”, “rented”, or “loaned” to

another regular or probationary performer. - Displaying a counterfeit or out-of-date permit will be cause for immediate removal

from area, and may result in revocation or denial of future permit. - No permit, no performance. - Lost permits will be subjected to a fine of TWO HUNDRED PESOS (Php 200.00). - For permit renewal, proceed to www.surveymonkey.com/s/BGCImpromptuRenew

E. Suspension, Revocation and Denial of Permits

- Any permit issued under the BGC Impromptu program may be suspended or revoked for any of the following reasons:

a. Misrepresentation in the application b. Performing contrary to the conditions of the permit and the BGC

Impromptu regulations c. Performance is a danger to the safety of the public d. Violation, noncompliance and misbehavior e. The reason behind the performer’s suspension or revocation has not been

corrected - A permit which has been suspended shall remain suspended for a period of three (3)

months. - A permit which has been revoked shall remain revoked for one (1) year following the

date of revocation. - No performer whose permit has been suspended or revoked may apply for a new

permit during the period of suspension and revocation.

IV. Performance Details

A. Provisions 1. Inclusions

- Bonifacio High Street in an accessible facility. - Chairs are subject to availability and obtainable upon request. - All areas are equipped with electrical tapping points.

2. Exclusions - BGC Impromptu will not provide storage. - BGC Impromptu will not provide extension cords or power strips.

B. Venue and Set-up Bonifacio High Street (please see Appendix A for detailed locations)

- All equipment must remain under the control of the performer. - No equipment shall be left unattended for any length of time, nor shall equipment

reduce pedestrian access. - Performers must check-in at B2 lobby before and after each performance. - Performers must prominently display their permit on the designated BGC

Impromptu performance area signage for easy identification of mall personnel.

C. Schedule - BGC Impromptu occurs every day from 11AM – 11PM. - All schedules must be cleared and approved by BAFI and Bonifacio High Street. - Artists must perform for a minimum of one hour (including set up). - Amplified performances may last for a maximum of ninety (90) minutes. Unamplified

performances may last for a maximum of five (5) hours. - Performers may view the official BGC Impromptu calendar to confirm their approved

schedules and locations for the performances at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CMHZut-Ktsg6L1QvqX4B6CsCydgCrnWBJwlmABSZNIE/edit?usp=sharing

- It is the artist’s responsibility to regularly check the calendar for any changes.

D. Types of Performers 1. Probationary

- New performers will be on probation for a period of one (1) month. In that period, BAFI will monitor and evaluate the performances.

- Probationary performers who show a high quality of performance, consistency and good behavior shall be offered a Regular Performer permit.

2. Regular

- Regular status is valid for one (1) year after issuance of first permit and shall be renewable upon expiration in each subsequent year so long as the performer remains in good standing.

- All area assignments and time slots are to be scheduled separately with BAFI. - Performances may be scheduled up to two (2) months in advanced with a maximum

of five (5) performances per week. - Regular status does not guarantee a performance slot, nor are previous placements.

E. Artist Revenue and Tips

- BAFI will not pay for performances. - Performers may collect and retain all tips and revenue from the sale of their

products. No commission on sales is due to BGC Impromptu. - Performers are responsible for collecting and reporting any sales to the

corresponding government agencies. - Performers may not charge for the performance nor use aggressive measures to

solicit donations. - Performers may sell recordings of their music or other performance-related

products and artwork created by the performer within the assigned area. - Products for sale must be pre-cleared with BAFI and Bonifacio High Street. - The products may be priced at the discretion of the performer. - The price must be disclosed to the audience in advance of selling the

product.

V. Housekeeping and Security

A. Housekeeping - There will be housekeeping provided for the general area. - Clean up and maintenance of the site for the period shall be the responsibility of the

artist. - Collection, hauling and disposal of all garbage and waste in the site shall be under

the accountability and expense of the artist. - Inability or failure to comply with its obligations would subject the artist to a penalty

of FOUR THOUSAND PESOS (Php 4,000.00). - In the event that the penalty is insufficient to cover such costs, the artist shall be

liable for the deficiency which shall be due and payable upon FBDC’s demand.

B. Security - There will be security in the general area - Security for each area will be under the responsibility and account of each artist - FBDC and its subsidiaries will not be responsible for lost or stolen items - In the event of a security incident, it is the responsibility of the artist to file an

incident report. Include photos and/or video documentation of the incident.

VI. Promotion and Branding

- All publicity materials should follow the BGC Impromptu template which is available upon request at [email protected]

- Approved ensigns may only be displayed within the given space. - The granting of permit does not give the artist the right to sell or offer for sale any articles,

tickets, or refreshments within or adjacent to the park area save for their own merchandising.

- No merchandising of other entities. (i.e. no sponsors allowed) - No selling of products and promotion of events being held in competitive venues are

allowed.

VII. Documentation

- The participant may have their exhibit documented by video and photography provided that permission from BAFI is obtained beforehand and no spot lights and strobe lights are used.

- The only allowable set-up is a tripod. - The videographer/photographer should not obstruct the walkways. - Participant will provide BAFI a copy of photos and videos taken during the performances for

FBDC’s files and for the use of further promoting the BGC Impromptu Program in PR, Digital and Print Media.

- FBDC reserves the right to take and publish photographs and recordings which may include performers.

VIII. Cancellation

- Should there be a request of re-scheduling or cancelling, notice must be given five (5) working days before the performance date. Any request beyond that window will not be granted. Schedule is subject to the availability of the space.

- Absence due to illness and bad weather (signal number 1) is excused. Provide a valid medical certificate.

- It is the artist's responsibility to check for announcements of cancellation. - Artists who arrive after their agreed upon ingress time will be allowed to perform

only until their specified egress time.

(For example: If the schedule is from 4-6PM and the artist arrives at 5PM, the artist is allowed to play only for 1 hour instead of 2 and leave the space at 6PM)

- One unexcused absence or 2 instances of tardiness will result to the suspension or revocation of the performance permit.

IX. General Reminders

- BGC Impromptu permit must be visible throughout the duration of the performance. - Event schedule, ingress and egress are to be STRICTLY observed. - Performers must be at least 18 years old or be accompanied at all times by their legal

guardian. - Organized gatherings such as meet-ups, rehearsals, jamming, or workshops do not qualify

under the BGC Impromptu program. This requires a different permit. Please call Bonifacio Estate Services Corporation at 816-3272 for more details.

- Exhibiting artists must comply with all safety requirements. - Participants must be dressed decently at all times. - Smoking is not allowed in the BGC Impromptu spaces. If you wish to smoke, please

proceed to designated smokers' pockets. - The participants and audience of the event shall not hold FBDC/AMPC and its subsidiaries

and joint companies for any accidents, injuries and damages that may occur to the participants and audience during ingress, event days and egress.

- During the coordination of the event, FBDC and BAFI may alter or add terms and conditions as necessary.

- The permit is non-transferable and is revocable at the sole direction of BAFI. - To ensure the fairness for every artist, the rules contained in these guidelines will be

strictly enforced. Performers not complying with BGC Impromptu policies will face suspension from the program or revocation of the performance permit.

- BAFI reserves the right to advise artists of any performance that does not meet the BGC Impromptu standards and revoke a permit, impose penalties, or may take any action deemed necessary for compliance.

- BAFI reserves the right to not invite violators to participate in BGC Impromptu in the future. - BAFI reserves the right to cancel or relocate performances of such reasonable causes

including, but not limited to, sale and lease of lot, FBDC-owned/initiated events, and determination that holding the event such site will seriously impair or be detrimental to the nearby locators and construction activities.

By sending in an application for BGC Impromptu, you are certifying that you have read and understood the contents of the BGC Impromptu guidelines. You agree and accept the terms and conditions of the BGC Impromptu agreement. Artist Names and Signatures: Group (if any): Date:
