• Upon first login to LastPass, you will be presented with the following screen. Click the Enable

Now button.

• You will have two options to setup MFA for LastPass: Microsoft Authenticator or LastPass

Authenticator. Microsoft Authenticator is the recommended option.

Option 1 (Microsoft Authenticator – Recommended): Microsoft Authenticator provides a token-based

system that generates a unique code every 30 seconds.

To follow instructions for Microsoft Authenticator, continue onto the next page.

Option 2 (LastPass Authenticator): Unlike the Microsoft authenticator, it sends a push notification and

requires an additional button press to authorize a log in from another device.

To follow instructions for LastPass Authenticator, continue to page 11.

Option 1: LastPass MFA through Microsoft Authenticator

IMPORTANT: Please disregard the captions under the screenshots. Any device may use either authenticator

Step 1: Click on the Enable Now button under Microsoft Authenticator option on the right.

Step 2: Enter your LastPass credentials and then click on “Begin Enabling Microsoft

Authenticator”.

Step 3: While the browser loads, pick up your mobile device. For Apple devices, go to the App

Store and search Microsoft Authenticator. For Android devices, go to the Play Store and search

Microsoft Authenticator. Download the app and wait for it to finish installing to your device.

Step 4: Once finished, open the Microsoft Authenticator app and allow Authenticator to send

notifications. A blue screen will pop-up with slides on how the app works – read through them

or press the skip button below.

Step 5: Tap OK to on the pop-up to allow the app to collect usage data, then tap the Add

account button.

Step 6: Tap the Work or School Account option to add a new account. Allow the app to have

access to your camera by tapping OK.

Step 7: Use your mobile device camera to capture the QR code.

IMPORTANT: Do not use the QR code displayed here in this document.

Step 8: Once the QR code is scanned, your mobile device screen should display a new account

labeled LastPass, your email address, and a 6-digit code. Enter the 6 digits into the “Code”

section of the setup page. With the code entered, click on the Enable Microsoft Authenticator

button. MFA should now be set up for LastPass.

Option 2: LastPass MFA through LastPass

Authenticator

Step 1: Click the Enable Now button to get started.

Step 2: Under the LastPass Authenticator option, click the Enable Now button.

Step 3: Click on the “Click here to enroll your device with LastPass Authenticator.” link to enroll

your mobile device with LastPass.

Step 4: A new window with a checklist will appear. Click on the Set up mobile app button for

further instructions.

Step 5: Go to your mobile device and then to your app store. Search LastPass Authenticator

and download the app.

Step 6: Allow notifications upon opening the app, then click the Add new account button to

add the Multifactor option.

Step 7: Tap the Scan barcode button and allow the app to have access to your camera.

Step 8: Click Next on your computer to bring up the barcode to scan with your mobile device

camera.

Step 9: Scan the barcode on the computer screen from your mobile device.

IMPORTANT: Do not use the code displayed here in this document.

Step 10: Set up your backup method using text message by clicking on the Set up text

message button.

Step 11: Enter your phone number and click Next.

Step 12: A code will then be sent to your phone number. Enter the code you received from

the text, and not the code seen in LastPass Authenticator – this is to establish and verify a

phone number.

Step 13: Activate two-factor authentication by clicking the Activate button.
