SPREADING THE MESSAGE...

For more information on the UMA Dawah Groups please contact

Brothers 0416 000 862 or [email protected] 0404 806 767 or [email protected]

Being one of the foundation programs within the UMA, the Brothers and Sisters Dawah groups were initiated to accomplish our religious duties of spreading the message of Allah and The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) within the Australian community including both Muslims and non-Muslims.

It revolves around 3 main principles:

Developing strong Brotherhood and Sisterhood between those involved both within and outside the group.

Promoting the message of Allah and His final Prophet to all members of society in a kind and friendly manner.

Developing zeal, passion and knowledge to become better worshippers and to support others in improving their worship.

The Dawah groups are an avenue for both Muslims and non Muslims to gain a clearer perception and solid understanding of Islam while developing a socially cohesive society. This has been achieved through the following:

• Developing programs and frameworks to educate others on the Islamic faith.

• Building social cohesion and a greater understanding of the authentic teachings of Islam through the ‘Street Dawah’ Program.

• Delivering a comprehensive system of inviting and educating people about Islam.

• Working with other like minded organisations to achieve common goals

• Sourcing, publishing, and distributing free Islamic material

• Meeting the needs of Muslim youth through specifically tailored programs while providing an Islamic setting that fosters learning, creativity, spirituality and fun. Programs such as the ‘Friday & Saturday Youth Program’ and ‘School Holiday Youth Program’ have seen generations of Muslims progress to become admirable contributors to humanity.

• Community engagement where volunteers regularly visit Muslims of all ages through the ‘Jawlah’ program to overcome social and spiritual challenges.

• Activities also include holding regular camps, family activities, including BBQs and social events, as well as participating in international educational courses.

The objective of establishing this association was to fill a void within the Muslim community and ummah for providing programs to both non-Muslims and new Muslims. ANMA provides a complete program of guidance and advice, education and ongoing support to new Muslims. In some cases, the lack of support and means for education has resulted in these new Muslims reverting to their previous faith.

The Australian New Muslims Association is an avenue to provide insight and awareness to the wider community relating to the reality of Islam, its authentic teachings, morals and a perfect way of living.

ANMA provides the following services:

• Facilitates ‘The Shahadah Ceremony’ when a person embraces Islam.

• Organises events and social gatherings for new Muslims to interact and socialise with other Muslims, e.g. barbeques and dinners.

• Facilitates and holds Mosque Open Days.

• Presents public lectures at various venues.

• Interfaith dialogues.

• Dawah courses: misconceptions about Islam and comparative religions.

• Fundraising events such as dinners, barbeques and Eid festivals.

• Distributes ‘Learn to Pray’ kits containing an instructional video on how to pray, compass, prayer mat and book, which is given to new Muslims upon reversion.

• Creates and publishes Dawah material such as pamphlets and other resources.

• Regular visits to establish and maintain contact with new Muslims and Muslim youth.

GUIDING & SUPPORTING THOSE WHO EMBRACE ISLAM...

“Invite (mankind) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom and fair preaching,

and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord

knows best who has gone astray from His Path,

and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided”

QURAN (16:125)

Gift a Smile is a not for profit organisation that provides financial or moral support to the families enduring hardship so they don’t feel they are alone on their journey. Our hands on help and assistance to families are open to those of all backgrounds.

Our community involvement is with both the young as well as the old. Our work includes visiting special needs schools, special ED classes in mainstream schools, nursing homes, age care centres, respites and hospitals upon request from families in the community.

We gift smiles by distributing our specialized showbags, bears and balloons to the children as well as handpicked and crafted gifts to the elderly. We also provide personalised wish gifts to special needs or terminally ill children as a surprise when they arrive home from long stays in hospitals.

Gift a Smile also assists families who require community support to help raise urgently needed funds. We help families fundraise money for the purchase of special needs equipment, modified cars or for lifesaving surgeries.

Gift a Smile is possible thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of it’s volunteers who are driven to make a difference and GIFT A SMILE to all those in need.

This organisation was established in loving memory of Khalid Khalil who passed away on 8th November 2012.

UMA Brotherhood Camps

The UMA Brotherhood Camps are held twice a year, reaching out to over 400 Muslims. The aim of the camps is to revive the Muslim spirit, strengthen the brotherhood and embed the Muslim identity within the youth.

Running over three days, the camp program is packed with spiritual reminders, sporting competitions, food, social gatherings, and of course the brotherhood bond all in an Islamic environment.

For many brothers, these short camps have been life-changing.

UMA Father Son Camp

The UMA Father Son Camp is as the name suggests a camp for fathers and their sons. Dads are invited to bring their sons, aged between 10 and 14 years, for a few days away to spend some time quality time together away from all distractions.

While away, fathers have the time to further develop and build their relationship with their sons while strengthening that bond they share as well. As the facilitators, we plan and organise lots of fun activities and entertainment for everyone to do together. These camps are appreciated and enjoyed because of the nurturing and friendly Islamic environment we provide.

The UMA Father Son Camp also identifies young leaders within the youth and fosters their skills to pursue leadership roles at future camps or possibly become future leaders of the UMA.

37

UMA Family Camp

Being a volunteer, or having several members in the family volunteer at the centre, can at times be demanding, so a short getaway is always loved. The UMA Family Camp is held once a year. These camps are dedicated to family time. Grandparents, parents and their children can get away from the everyday hustle of life and spend some quality time with each other.

The environment at the family camp is loved by everyone because it’s very relaxed yet still spiritual. It’s a time where we can get away from the volunteering role and really enjoy each other’s company. It’s a time where new friendships are made and existing bonds are strengthened.
