HOW TO BECOME A

Without a relationship with HIM, everything else just scratches the surface. Begin your relation-ship with GOD through JESUS CHRIST today. Answer this in your mind...in your personal opinion...what do you understand it takes for a per-son to go to heaven? The Bible clearly answers this question... IT’S A MATTER OF FAITH! F IS FOR FORGIVENESS We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God’s FORGIVENESS. Ephesians 1:7a - “In Him we have redemption through his blood, and the forgiveness of sins.” A IS FOR AVAILABLE Forgiveness is available. It is - Available for ALL. John 3:16 - “For God so Loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” But it is not Automatic. Matthew 7:21 - “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” I IS FOR IMPOSSIBLE It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven. It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven because God is Loving and just, His judgment is against sin. James 2:13 - “...because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!” It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven because every person is a sinner. Romans 3:23 - “...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” But how can a sinful person enter heaven, when God allows no sin? T IS FOR TURN Turn means repent. Turn from something - sin and self. Luke 13:3 - “unless you repent, you too will all perish.” Turn to Someone; trust Christ only. Romans 10:9 - “if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe it in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” H IS FOR HEAVEN Heaven is eternal life. Here and Hereafter. John 14:3 - “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” How can a person have God’s forgiveness, heaven, eternal life and Jesus as personal Savior and Lord? By trusting in Christ and asking Him for forgiveness. Take the step of faith described by another meaning of FAITH. FORSAKING ALL I TRUST IN HIM If you would like to accept Christ right now, you can pray a prayer like this. “Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and have displeased You in many ways. I believe you died for my sin and only through faith in your death and resurrection can I be forgiven. I want to turn from my sin and ask you to come into my Life as my Savior and Lord. From this day on, I will follow you by living a life that pleases you. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving and forgiving me.“ How to become a Christian adapted from the FAITH presentation from Lifeway’s Essential Connections Magazine.

Nehemiah was in leadership during an extraordinary time in Israel's history. He faced opposition from all sides—both from his own people and from outside forces. A little background will help set the stage for understanding the pres-sures Nehemiah faced. From antiquity, Ezra and Nehemiah have been con-sidered almost as one book. The two books cover a period of about one hundred years. In 587 B.C. Judah was removed from the land of Israel and deported to Babylon with only a few left in the land. In 538 B.C. Cyrus sent some of the people back to rebuild the temple. Nehemiah's second return would be around 430 B.C. Zerubbabel, Ezra and Nehemiah are all wrapped up in this history. Zerubbabel built the temple, Ezra brought the Law back into Israel's life and Nehemiah rebuilt the wall that made Jerusalem secure. Nehemiah’s Prayer - Read Nehemiah 1:1-11

What was Nehemiah’s response when he heard about the broken down wall of Jerusalem? (v.3-4) (v. 6-7)In these verses, Nehemiah confesses his and Israel's sin. Write out what those sins were from verse 7. What sins in your life do you need to confess? Nehemiah makes his request to the king - Read Nehemiah 2:1-10

In v.2 we see that Nehemiah was “dreadfully afraid”. But Nehemiah over-came his fears and made a request to the king. What fears in your life do you need to overcome? Nehemiah made several requests. List the three requests: 1. (2:5) - 2. (2:7) - 3. (2:8) - Nehemiah observes the wall - Read Nehemiah 2:11-20

After looking at the broken down walls, Nehemiah called the people to ac-tion. It is time to rebuild! (v.17-18) What are the broken down walls in your life that God is calling you to rebuild? In verses 19-20 we see three men that made fun of Nehemiah's plan to re-build the wall. Did Nehemiah let their mockery stop him? Should we let the negative things others say about us, stop us from obeying God?

Nehemiah rebuilds the Wall and the People 1. What was the main idea from this mornings message? 2. Nehemiah was able to move the people to action and to rebuild the wall. How can we allow God to ignite a passion that will move us to action? 3. Nehemiah was able to bring the people together and accomplish the purpose. Why is it important for your youth group and church to come to-gether? 4. Was there anything this morning that was said that caught your attention? 5. How can God rebuild your youth group? What can your group accom-plish for God in 52 days?

In chapter 3 Nehemiah assigned different people to rebuild different parts of the wall. But now we see that Nehemiah faces opposition in chapters 4-6. Nehemiah faces Opposition #1- Read Nehemiah 4:1-6

Describe the progression of how Sanballat and Tobiah threaten the Jews and the building of the wall in verses 1-3. List the ways Nehemiah responds to these forms of opposition (v. 4-6). Nehemiah faces Opposition #2- Read Nehemiah 4:7-23 In verses 1-3 we see that Nehemiah faced mockery and discouragement but now in verse 7-8 we see the second round of opposition in the form of vio-lence. In verses 13-20, how does Nehemiah handle these threats? Who was Nehemiah trusting to get the work done and to overcome the op-position (v. 9, 14 and 20)? How should we overcome opposition in our life? Nehemiah faces Opposition #3- Read Nehemiah 5:1-19

In chapter 5 we now see opposition from within. The Jewish nobles and rulers were taking unfair advantage of the hardships of other Jews. (5:2-5) How would you define the kind of leadership that Nehemiah exercises in dealing with this internal opposition to the wall? What kind of internal opposition could likely come up within your church or youth group to divert you from your real objectives? Nehemiah faces Opposition #4- Read Nehemiah 6:1-14 In 6:6-7 Sanballat makes false accusations against Nehemiah. Then in 6:10-13 they try to trick Nehemiah. Look at Nehemiah’s response to false accusa-tions. *Nehemiah denied the accusation and said the enemies had made it up without proof. v.8 *He kept his focus on the real root cause of the conflict v.9 *He prayed to God for strength v.9b. Have you ever been falsely accused? How did you respond? The Wall is complete - Read Nehemiah 6:15

They were able to complete the wall in 52 days with Gods help.

Nehemiah Rebuilds their Worship

1. Reading God’s Word highlights our sin and His holiness. What should our response be? 2. Reading God’s Word shows us the way for us to be redeemed. 3. Do you crave the Word of God in your life? Why is it hard for you to find time to read the Bible? 4. Was there anything this morning that was said that caught your attention? 5. The people assume responsibility in chapter 10 to obey the command-ments of God. What is the difference between knowing God’s command-ments and obeying them?

Dedication of the Wall - Celebration and Thanksgiving 12:27-43

With the wall complete, they are now dedicating it to God. This dedication should be a time of gladness. In verse 27 we see they are to celebrate the dedication with thanksgiving and singing. Thanksgiving and Singing 12:27-28,31,38 Ps. 107:1 - Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. I Thess. 5:18 - Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Eph. 5:19-20 - Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. What are you thankful to God for? Why is music and singing the appropriate response to celebrate what God has done? Does music and song help you to connect to God? Why? Read verse 30, what is the importance of them purifying themselves? Is it important for us to be pure? Our Joy should be a Witness (12:43) How many times in verse 43 do you see joy or rejoicing mentioned? May oth-ers see the joy of the Lord in our lives. BAPTISM This week if you have made a decision to make Christ King over your life then we encourage you to talk to someone about Baptism. Christian baptism is the means by which a person makes a public profession of faith by immersion in water. Baptism illustrates, in dramatic style, the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. At the same time, it also illustrates our death to sin and new life in Christ.
