33rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Life Goes On

Impatience seems to be the newest trendy sin. We seem to have no tolerance for waiting, for enduring through difficulties. Young people, especially, seem unable to work steadfastly through the steps it may take to complete a task well; they get upset and give up if things don’t come to them quickly.

We have all become addicted to noise, rushing, efficiency, and speed. We don’t want to grow old, because we don’t see value in the slower rhythms of older age. People try to produce noble and heart-rending explanations why abortion or euthanasia are necessary. But it is the same temptation: to bring an end to a life that’s too much trouble, or isn’t useful or efficient or beautiful.

Good Friday is our Catholic symbol of all the evil that exists in the world. This year on Good Friday, a Franciscan priest gave a homily at the Vatican. He said, “Human progress is advancing today at a dizzying pace and humanity sees new and unexpected horizons unfolding before it…. (But) despite all the misery, injustice, the monstrosities present on Earth, (Jesus) has already inaugurated the final order in the world…the world has reached its final destination… The new world has already begun.” (R. Cantalamessa, OFM)

That shouldn’t be news to us! He is merely saying that Jesus has already defeated evil, and that we know how the story ends—in victory for life, and for each of us. If we can have the boldness to believe, shouldn’t this truth be the greatest incentive to our own perseverance in life?

From the Pastor’s Desk

So many conflicting voices and influences make parenting difficult. In today’s gospel, Jesus encourages parents to bravely “give testimony” and trust He will give us the “wisdom” to be good parents. You are not alone in parenting; a loving Father is standing with you.

A Family Perspective

Diocesan policy allows multiple intentions be said at a single Liturgy, and we still have an abundance of uncelebrated Mass Intentions. Beginning with Advent, we will be celebrating multiple intentions at each of the weekend Liturgies. If you have questions, please call the church office at 754-1266.

Mass Intentions

● The two rooms (Cry Rooms) at the entrance of the church are to provide respite for children and adults alike. They are NOT playrooms or nurseries. Please be considerate, so that everyone may participate in the Liturgy within a prayerful atmosphere.

● For the safety of our children, please accompany your child if he or she must leave during Mass.

● Please show your respect for the Liturgy by remaining in your pew until the conclusion of the Recessional Hymn.

We are in need of Ushers to serve at all the Liturgies, but mostly needed at the 8:30 am Sunday Mass. If you are interested in signing up as an usher, or even a substitute, please call Steve Fales, 754-0591.

Ushers Needed

As retirement came prematurely to me, I could not imagine what I would do with all that time. I don’t worry anymore. As team leader of 3 ministries, I have had more blessings than I can count in volunteering at Holy Family. The support and superb assistance of the people in these ministries is overwhelming. Please consider volunteering for the Welcoming Ministry. We are making a difference by welcoming our new parishioners. We provide a welcome tote bag full of information and token gifts for the family. We also host a new parishioner reception each year. If you would like to hear more about this terrific group, please call me at 748-0812. Thank you. Janet Barna
