TRANSCRIPT
No lover of the outdoors should be without the First Aid Basic. Your safety is not something that
should be taken lightly when you’re travelling.
More about the First Aid Basic on page 138.
SAFETY FIRST.The guiding principle on every tour:
The great outdoors is full of adventures – and dangers. Safety must be your first consideration
when planning a trip. It starts and ends with the right first aid kit, because in the event of an
emergency it can make all the difference to the health and life of an injured person.
And in order to be able to help in an emergency, you need a first aid kit that contains more than
some plasters and antiseptic cream. TATONKA and the Outdoorschule Süd have together developed
a first aid system that sets new standards for contents, handling and quality.
All our first aid sets contain at least one pack of dressings with a non-stocking wound surface
instead of a non-sterile mull dressing. The First Aid Compact that is recommended as basic
equipment and the Complete and Advanced sets for longer trips all contain a pair of high
quality bandage scissors (instead of the “dummy” that is included in lots of other kits) and a
triangular piece of tear-proof fabric. First Aid Sterile is an accessory set with sterile materials
for when travelling to countries with challenging hygiene conditions.
And incidentally, our first aid kits all come ready-packed with all the contents. Which is not only
very practical, but in fact essential, because you will have whatever it is you are looking for instantly
to hand.

The Outdoorschule Süd e. V. in Hinterzarten is the largest supplier
of outdoor emergency management in German-speaking countries.
In realistic emergency conditions, the association offers training that
teaches specialist knowledge beyond the “standard” first-aid course.
More information regarding the seminar pro gramme is available
online at www.outdoorschule-sued.de.
YOUR PARTNER WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY.
IN AN EMERGENCY, CHEATING IS ALLOWED.
In cases of emergency, valuable assistance is provided by the
Outdoorschule Süd’s first-aid cheat sheet that is included in every
TATONKA First Aid Bag. Step by step, it explains what needs to be
done in the case of an emergency and clearly describes what you
need to do using funny and useful mnemonics.
A VALUABLE RESOURCE:
If you would like more complete information regarding this topic,
we recommend the book “Erste Hilfe Outdoor” (only available
in German). This in-depth reference guide conveys simply and clearly
what is important in outdoor emergency management – from training
to equipment to first aid.
(published by ZIEL-Verlag, ISBN 978-3-940562-02-9)The first aid kits are all packed at the Ulrichwerkstätten Schwabmünchen by people with disabilities.
