I swear by Apollo the physician, and Asclepius, and Hygieia and Panacea and
all the gods and goddesses as my witnesses, that, according to my ability and
judgement, I will keep this Oath and this contract:
To hold him who taught me this art equally dear to me as my parents, to be a
partner in life with him, and to fulfill his needs when required; to look upon
his offspring as equals to my own siblings, and to teach them this art, if they
shall wish to learn it, without fee or contract; and that by the set rules, lectures,
and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the art to myown sons, and those of my teachers, and to students bound by this contract and
having sworn this Oath to the law of medicine, but to no others.
I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to mygreatest ability and judgement, and I will do no harm or injustice to them.
I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan;
and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion.
In purity and according to divine law will I carry out my life and my art.
I will not use the knife, even upon those suffering from stones, but I will leave
this to those who are trained in this craft.
Into whatever homes I go, I will enter them for the benefit of the sick, avoiding
any voluntary act of impropriety or corruption, including the seduction ofwomen
or men, whether they are free men or slaves.
Whatever I see or hear in the lives of my patients, whether in connection with my
professional practice or not, which ought not to be spoken of outside, I will keep
secret, as considering all such things to be private.
So long as I maintain this Oath faithfully and without corruption, may it he
granted to mc ro partake of life fully and the practice of my art, gaining the
respect of all mei) h )i- ;iil time. However, should I transgress this Oath and violate
it, may the opposite be my fate.

In memory of Dr. Krishna C. Agrawal: Dr. Agrawal, Professor and Chairman of the
Department of Pharmacology at Tulane Medical School, passed away Saturday 12""
of December, 2009, at the young age of 72. Dr. Agrawal's strong and revered
presence and his kind and gentle guidance, will be missed by all. He was born in
Kolkata, India in 1937. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida and did
postdoctoral research at Yale Unive.sity where he was promoted to Associate
Professorship in 1976. Later in the same year. Dr. Agrawal was recruited at Tulane,
in the Department of Pharmacology, where he rose in reputation and academic
rank and was appointed interim Chairman in 1996. In 1999 he was appointed as
the Regents Professor and Chairman, and admirably and efficiently served that position for the last ten years.
Back in the days : Dr. Agrawal (top, third from right) with
Departmental Faculty and previous Chairman, Dr. Fisher.
With first of many 'Owl Club' awards.
Dr. Agrawal loved a good party with the faculty members
Dr. Agrawal was responsible for
numerous publications and grants that
helped substantial developments
towards HIV and cancer research. He
published more than 125 peer-reviewed
manuscripts, and authored a number of
book chapters. He was awarded many
research grants from the National
Institute of Health (NIH), and the
Department of Defense (DOD). He was
the recipient of a number of awards
including a special award from Mr. Jack
Aron to establish "The Jane B. Aron
Laboratory for Pharmacology" at Tulane.
Dr. Agrawal was particularly
devoted to his teaching. He was
especially proud of the Master of
Science Program in Pharmacology, which
he co-founded in 1999. He directly
oversaw the post doctoral training of 18
individuals and graduated 15 doctoral
students, many of whom now hold
faculty positions at universities
throughout the country. His work was
recognized by invitations to participate
and chair scientific sessions at numerous
national and international conferences.
Dr. Agrawal was highly respected in the local Indian community as well. His exemplary life was
inspired by his loving wife, Mani, his children Sunil, Lina and Nira, and seven grandchildren. He was a loving
husband, a wonderful father, and a dear friend to all. Tulane, and especially the Department of Pharmacology,
'.vjfi always remember the tragedy that occurred on that rainy night in December. May his soul rest in peace.

In Memoriam
Dr. Edward Newsome
\.
Dr. Edward Newsome received his MD from the University of South Alabama where he also
completed his residency in general surgery. Following his general surgery residency. Dr. Newsome
went into private practice in general surgery and
emergency medicine in Mississippi. In 1 996 he continued
his graduate medical education in the Plastic Surgery
Residency Program at Temple University Hospital in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was certified by the
American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American
Board of Surgery.
He joined the faculty at Tulane University School
of Medicine in 1998 in the Department of Surgery,
Section of Plastic Surgery. Ed developed a very active
clinical practice and was respected for his surgical
skill, dedication to excellence, and commitment to all
patients. He had a special interest in reconstructive
surgery, complex wounds, lower extremity salvage,
skin cancer and melanoma. He was a Fellow of the
American College of Surgeons, and a member of the
American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Board
of Plastic Surgery, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons and the Association of Academic
Chairmen of Plastic Surgery. In addition he was a member of several local organizations, including
the Tulane Surgical Society, Orleans Parish Medical Society, New Orleans Surgical Society, and
the Surgical Association of Louisiana.
Ed had an unequaled commitment to the academic mission of Tulane University School of
Medicine. He was devoted to surgical education. He worked tirelessly to establish a unified
plostic surgery residency in southern Louisiana. In realizing his vision, he created one of the premier
plastic surgery training programs in the country. By founding the unified plastic surgery residency,
Ed was able to bring together plastic surgeons throughout the region, and from all the major
training centers, allowing for greater cooperation and improved patient care.
In the immediate aftermath of Katrina, Dr. Newsome worked both to provide patient care and to
ensure that the Tulane residents and students continued to receive their education and training.
His commitment to resident education gained him national recognition. He was named the Chief
of the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education at Tulane
in recognition of his leadership. In addition, he held the William Henderson Chair in surgery.

To our Classmates:
As the yearbook committee, we've had the pleasure to sort through a lot of our memories. From tubing to Saints
touchdowns, cadavers to clinics, and everything in between, we have seen the evidence that this has been an amazing
four years.
"We came to New Orleans not knowing what we would find. We have been a part of a city that has turned the
lowest lows of hurricane devastation into the highest highs of a Saints Superbowl (WHO DAT!). Just as the city has
changed, so too have we.
Four years in labs, libraries, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars. Studying, volunteering, and having fun. All of these
things have helped shaped us into the physicians we have finally become. We have learned not only to be doctors
but also to be citizens of the community.
We hope that this yearbook will serve as a reminder of all the experiences that we have shared. Whether it is in five
months or fifty years, we hope you look back on these pages as treasured memories.
Yours truly.

When people ask me where I am from, I tell them, "I was raised in Michigan, but I grew
up in New Orleans." I learned to live here, learned who I was and who I wanted to be....
New Orleans will always be a part of me -- it will always be my home. To all the people
that make New Orleans home, thanks for the best 10 years of my life!

To our daughter, Dr. Amanda Kimberly Martin:
As our only child, you are truly our pride and joy. God Almighty in Heaven
has truly smiled upon you and has blessed you to accomplish so much in
the 25 years that you have been with us. Continue to believe in Him, and
He will surely guide you into greener pastures. Always remember to be a
blessing to others, and God will continue to take care of you. With Godon your side, you have nothing to fear; we know that you will be a fine
physician! May God continue to bless you and keep you on the straight and
narrow path to Glory.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Brianne,
Desire is the key to motivation,
but it's the determination and commitment
to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal
- a commitment to excellence - that will
enable you to attain the success you seek.
Congratulations Doctor
and
may GOD continue to bless you.
Love,
Shannon F. Rodgers
You have been a great friend since we started
this journey at Howard University
We are so proud and inspired by
all of your amazing accomplishments.
We hope that GOD continues to bless
and strengthen you to be
the best doctor you are destined to be.
Love Always,

Congrats Dr. Brianne S. Hunter
Brianne,
What is the recipe for successful achievement? To my mind there are just four essential ingredients:
Choose a career you love... Give it the best there is in you...Seize
your opportunities and be a member of the team. In no country
but America, I believe, is it possible to fulfill all four of these
requirements.
Competition is a by-product of productive work, not its goal. Acreative woman is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the
desire to beat others.
Success is not measured by what you accomplish but by the
opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which
you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. :y
Congratulations and may GOD continue to give you the desires
of your heart.
Love,
Your Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins

Dedication to mv Daughter
To my daughter. I will always remember the doctor saying, "it's a Girl!" As I took you gently
in my arms and looked at those ten toes and fingers, I was in amazement of what God had
created. I beliexed the most important thing I did was to have you dedicated before the
Lord. The pastor held you in his arms and lifted you up to the congregation and prayed. I
remember the question he asked, "Will you promise to pray for her and lead her in the ways
of righteousness, will you teach her of God and of the salvation given to her through the
acceptance of Jesus Christ. Will you love her and care for her as God loves you". I cared for
you, nurtured and watched you flourish. When you started to play outside, I taught you about
safety. When you started school, 1 cried liked every other mother I know. When you came
home from school upset and hurt about something, I reassured and comforted you. As you
experienced the teenage years, our relationship began to change. I remember sitting with you
and telling you, "These will either be the Best years of our lives or the Worst". You challenged
to make them the Best. Oh, it wasn't easy on your behalf or mine, but, God was there. Mycommitment as a mother remains. I will continue to pray without ceasing that God will direct
your life, that you become the Woman God has called you to be and that you will follow the
paths he has chosen for you. From diapers-to cars-to jobs-to your future. I'm So Proud of all
the Joy in life you haven given me! You are truly a blessing and the greatest gift God could
have given me, walk in the light of God's word, hold on to the truths you have learned and
go... .begin your life anew. Remember, 1 will always be here for you... .but most importantly,
when we're not together, God will be your guide. God Bless you, I love you my Daughter.
Love Your,
MOTHER

This is my prayer for you
May GOD take all limits off you and your future endeavors.
That there are no boundaries and your territory is ENLARGED.That you go forth with every confidence and ounce of courage knowing that
GOD HAS ARMED YOU with wisdom and knowledge.
May you know that you are the seed of Abraham and everything that
pertains to you shall be blessed.
I thank GOD for the anointing he placed on your hands, so that everything
that you touch shall be healed, restored, and recovered.
Congratulations Dr. Hunter!!!
I am so very proud of you and happy to be apart of the promise that GODhas placed inside of you.
