PRODUCT OVERVIEWThermal Corporation’s T Series (Tubular Frame) of air handlers are constructed around a weldedtubular frame. The flexibility of the tubular design lends itself to a wide range of available sizes andconfigurations. By providing a customizable platform, the T Series units provide the optimum balancein quality and value.

Construction Features:• 16 ga. fully welded tubular steel frame to form a unitized

assembly.

• 16 ga. galvanized steel panels with closed cellneoprene gasket around the perimeter. All panels areinstalled with 1/4" sealed fasteners. Panels can beremoved without affecting the structural integrity of theunit.

• 2", 3", or 4" thick walls with single or double wallconstruction.

• Structural steel fan bases are internally spring-isolated.

• AMCA-rated forward-curved (DWDI), housed airfoil(DWDI), or plenum fans (SWSI) are available.

• Full walk-on floor of galvanized steel. True "doublebottom" construction with 4" thick insulation.

• AHRI certified coils in 1/2" or 5/8" O.D. copper tubes. 1"O.D. steam distributing coils are also available uponrequest.

Design Flexibility:• Units are customized to your particular application.

• Any unit size available up to 30,000 CFM.

• Units can be designed for indoor or outdoorapplications. Only indoor units are available in verticalconfigurations.

• Special third-party vendor items such as humidifiers,blenders, evaporative coolers, and IFB coils can befactory mounted.

• Units can be designed with multiple fans for low profilecabinets or redundant operation.

• Full selection of air filters to meet indoor air qualitystandards.

• Outdoor units can be provided with roof curbs.

Getting StartedThe designer must know the following information in order to properly design a Thermal T Series air handling unit:• Unit Airflow • Coil Conditions• Total Static Pressure (TSP) • Filtration Requirements• Unit Configuration

UNIT SELECTION GUIDELINESShippingStandard legal loads are used to ship air handling units that are less than or equal to 106" tall and 102" wide. Units less than or equalto 144" wide and 312" in direction of airflow can be built and shipped as one piece, but will require special permits. Demounts shouldbe added when using these dimensions.As long as there are no shipping limitations, multiple section air handlers ship as a single unit, unless otherwise requested. Modularsections may then be demounted in the field by others.

Fan Type GuidelinesThe fans that produce the highest mechanical efficiency are DWDI housed airfoil. However, when you have a blow throughapplication, unducted discharge system effect losses often offset their efficiency. While DWDI housed airfoil fans can be used inapplications greater than 4" w.g., DWDI forward curved fans offer quiet operation for return air applications and static pressures lessthan 4" w.g.

SWSI Plenum fans pressurize the entire plenum and generate very little velocity pressure, making them ideal for blow throughapplications and when you require multiple duct take-offs. Built-in noise control characteristics are accomplished as air is dischargedagainst the plenum casing walls. Thermal utilizes plenum fans with a large quantity of blades.

SizingNote: Alternate unit sizes are available. Use the following guidelines to determine available fin height and length for a given unit outercasing height and width:

Fin Height

1. Standard units with 1 coil high, allow fin height +11"2. Standard units with 2 coils high, allow fin height +13"3. Standard units with 3 coils high, allow fin height +15"

Fin Length1. Standard units with 1 coil wide, allow fin length +14"2. Outdoor units with a 12" internal pipe chase, allow total fin

length +30"

Miscellaneous Options

1. Cleanable return bends, allow fin length +15"

2. 4" connections, allow fin height +12" and fin length +16"

Note: These guidelines do not include outdoor roof pitch andare based on 5" unit base, 2" casing and up to 3" coilconnections.

STEP 1:

Using a copy of the form provided at the back of theCatalog & Design Guide, select whether the unit isindoor or outdoor. Next, enter the CFM and TSP of eachfan.

If you are only provided with the external static pressure(ESP) use the quick pressure drop tables on thefollowing pages to establish the total static pressure(TSP) of the unit.

STEP 2:

Now that you have established the TSP and CFM usethe supplied fan selection software to pick the properfan(s). Make sure to record the type of fan(s), requiredhorsepower(s), and motor frame size(s).

STEP 3:

Record the minimum cabinet height and length requiredfor your fan from the fan reference tables. Motorposition and size determine the minimum cabinet width.

STEP 4:

Now turn to the unit selection table. Locate theselection that meets your airflow requirements usingyour total airflow. Move right and down to any otherblock that will work if cabinet height and width is lessthan the minimum required for the fan. Enter thecabinet size in the space provided on the selectiontemplate.

STEP 5:

From the unit selection grid, enter the coil finned heightand width. Proceed to the component section andselect the required modules.
