Blessings & Best Wishes
to Fr. Benjamin At the beginning of October, Fr. Benjamin Doh Gawu is leaving our Parish to return home to Ghana to resume his work in his Parish and for his Diocese. During August and September, Fr. Benjamin has been a blessing to our Parish Family. On the Altar, in the Confessional, through Spiritual Counsel, and in many other ways, Fr. Benjamin faithfully assisted members of our Parish Family to know Jesus better and to love Him more. Father goes home to Ghana with our prayers and a warm invitation, “See you next summer!”

SPIRIT-FILLED EVANGELIZERS
We may be sure that none of our acts
of love will be lost, nor any of acts of sincere concern for others. No single
act of love for God will be lost, no generous effort is meaningless, no painful endurance is wasted. All of
these circle our world like a vital force.
Sometimes it seems that our work is fruitless, but a mission is not like a business transaction or
investment, or even a humanitarian activity. It is not a show where we count how many people come
as a result of our publicity; it is something much deeper, which escapes all measurement. It may be
that the Lord uses our sacrifices to shower
blessings in another part of the world which we will never visit.
The Holy Spirit works as He wills, when He wills, and where He wills; we entrust ourselves without
pretending to see striking results. We know only
that our commitment is necessary. Let us learn to rest in the tenderness of the arms of the Father
amid our creative and generous commitment...let us give Him everything, allowing Him to make our
efforts bear fruit in His good time.
Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium
MARY, OUR MOTHER Hail, Mary,
Full of Grace
H ail, O Lady, holy Queen, Mary, holy Mother of God: You are the Virgin made
Church, and the one chosen by the most holy Father in heaven whom He consecrated with His most holy beloved Son and the Holy Spirit the Paraclete, in whom there was and is all the fullness of grace and every good. Hail, His Palace! Hail, His Tabernacle! Hail, His Home! Hail, His Robe! Hail, His Servant! Hail, His Mother! And hail all your holy virtues which through the grace and light of the Holy Spirit are poured into the hearts of the faithful so that from their faithless state you may make them faithful to God.
St. Francis of Assisi..
Blessed Are You
Among Women
M ary is the house and the palace of the Great King, of God
Himself. Our Lord, the co-equal Son of God, once dwelt in her. He was her guest; nay more than a guest, for a guest comes into a house as well as leaves it. But our Lord was actually born in this holy house, from the flesh, from the veins of Mary.
R ightly then she was made to be of pure gold, because she was to give
of that gold to form the body of the Son of God. She was golden in her conception, golden in her birth. She went through the fire of suffering like gold in the furnace, and when she ascended on high, she was, in the words of our hymn, “Above all the angels in glory untold, Standing next to the King in vesture of gold.”
Blessed John Henry Newman..

Prayer Requests
dear Padre I enjoy going to the casino to gamble, but I have seen people gamble and lose all of their money. Is gambling considered a sin?
To play games of chance, to bet on horse or dog races, or to buy lottery tickets are, in and of themselves, innocent undertakings that can be sources of fun—and even financial returns. But circumstances can change an innocent game into something morally suspect, even downright wrong. When a person gets so involved with gambling that it becomes addictive, when the welfare of the gambler and the gambler’s family is jeopardized, gambling ceases to be a harmless amusement. Instead, it becomes an irresponsible practice—indeed, objectively, a sin. The sin lies in the neglect of one’s responsibilities to self, family, and God.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church says this about gambling: “Games of chance or wagers are not in themselves contrary to justice. They become morally unacceptable when they deprive someone of what is necessary to provide for their needs or those of others. The passion for gambling risks becoming an enslavement” (CCC 2413).
A survey of a local group of Gamblers Anonymous highlights the potential destructive nature of this activity. Within this group, the gambling addiction has led 22 percent to divorce, 40 percent to lose their jobs, 49 percent to steal money with which to pay their gambling debts, and 63 percent to contemplate suicide. Hopefully, we and others will seek healthier ways to relax or seek out our fortunes.
