OUR APPROACH

Mediation Institute was founded and continues to be managed by dispute resolution professionals.

We are dedicated to reducing damaging conflict in Australia and the world by training people in the skills needed to prevent and resolve conflict.

Our vision for the world is that it’s people are willing and able to work together in peace, solving problems and harnessing the power of synergy and collaboration to make things better for everyone.

Read on to find out more about our courses and member services to support dispute resolution professionals.

OUR VALUES

We value above all else:

• Accessibility – we want to support dispute resolution professionals and train new entrants into the industry no matter where they live. That is why we use online learning where possible and blended learning where a workshop is essential.

• Flexibility – we make use of technology to train people rather than groups so that you can start your studies when you are ready, move at your own pace and complete when you are competent.

• Innovation – we are not big fans of tradition for traditions sake. If we can find a way to do things better, we will. Better for us means more supportive, more flexible, more effective, lower cost or higher value. We don’t see these things as being mutually exclusive.

OUR STORY Mediation Institute was established in 2013 to innovate the training of mediation skills in Australia. Our Mission was to make high quality mediation training available across Australia to anyone with a passion for dispute resolution.

After some teething pains our directors are now all dispute resolution professionals with aligned values and ethics. We have a passion and commitment to our student’s success during their studies and in their dispute resolution careers.

From the very beginning our goal was to design dispute resolution courses where students could engage via modern online learning technology using Video conferencing technology for one on one contact, tutorial delivery and skills development. Workshops are sometimes offered where access to technology is limited or required for the subject such as family group conferencing where one of the skills required is facilitating a group of people which is not adequately simulated via video meeting.

Our courses are not correspondence courses. They are eLearning which means that you don’t miss out on the shared learning and interaction with other students that is so critical for effective learning.

our total commitment to our students and members We provide mediation training because we want more passionate, well trained mediators working in this growing industry across Australia.

Our exceptional graduate completion rate is testament to the passion and commitment of our trainers and staff to engage and communicate with students continually and to help and assist them in their learning and ongoing development of this valuable skill set.

It was this level of commitment to excellence that helped us in achieving peer recognition by winning the eLearning Excellence Awards for the VET Sector in our first year of operation.

After our students graduate we provide membership services related to accreditation, complaint handling, insurance and professional development. Our goal is to help our graduates to find their place in the industry and to be supported in their professional practice.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

Family Friendly Courses My expectations were met as I wanted to source a course that didn't require lengthy placements away from my home life.

It suited my needs as I was already providing alternate dispute resolution and it allowed me to blend this with study and continue to work within my own business as I gained a qualification.

I wanted the opportunity to become competent at video mediation and I feel that this was the course that allowed successfully for this to happen.

Jo Martin. Albury

Flexible Delivery I was in a great position to take on the study as it complemented my current area of practice so well. It was a smooth transition into study that allowed me to complete it with realistic timeframes that accommodated my lifestyle.

The benefit of this course although daunting at first, was learning and adapting to using online forums for mediation.

Having already had years of face to face mediation experience it challenged my comfort levels and allowed me to develop another marketable skill set on completion of the course.

Gillian Enterkin – Blue Mountains

How well did the video role plays with other students enhance your learning? Role plays with other students was a non-threatening way to learn. Being able to nominate to be a role player or mediator was most useful. The Cadre of past and present students are an excellent resource themselves.

Bill Mills, Brisbane

Exponentially!! This was my favourite part of the course. Putting words into action was the best way to cement the learning process.

Danielle Martin. Perth
