Canons Regular of St . John Cantius

A PRAYER FOR PRIESTS St. Therese of Lisieux

O Jesus, eternal Priest, keep your priests within the shelter

of Your Sacred Heart, where none may touch them.

Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Your Sacred Body.

Keep unsullied their lips, daily purpled with your Precious Blood.

Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood.

Let Your holy love surround them and shield them from the world's contagion.

Bless their labors with abundant fruit and may the souls to whom they minister

be their joy and consolation here and in heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.

Recessional Hymn

Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones, Arr. Rev. Scott Haynes, S.J.C.

Organ Fanfare & Introduction

Ye watchers and ye holy ones, Bright seraphs, cherubim and thrones,

Raise the glad strain, Alleluia! Cry out, dominions, princedoms, powers,

Virtues, archangels, angels’ choirs: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Organ Interlude

Respond, ye souls in endless rest, Ye patriarchs and prophets blest,

Alleluia! Alleluia! Ye holy twelve, ye martyrs strong,

All saints triumphant, raise the song. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Organ Interlude

O higher than the cherubim,

More glorious than the seraphim, Lead their praises, Alleluia!

Thou bearer of th’eternal Word, Most gracious, magnify the Lord.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Postlude Grand Chorus in D, in the style of Handel, Op. 18, no. 1 Félix-Alexandre Guilmant

Prelude Be Joyful Mary, Arr. Rev. Scott A. Haynes, S.J.C.

Procession of the Bishop Ecce Sacerdos, Edward Elgar

Behold a great priest, who in his days pleased God: Therefore, by an oath the Lord made him increase among his people. He gave him the blessing of all nations, and confirmed his covenant upon his head. There-

fore, by an oath the Lord made him to increase among his people (Ecclesiasticus 44:16, 27).

Introit Scio cui credidi, Gregorian Chant

I know whom I have believed, and I am certain that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him against that day, being a just Judge. * Lord, Thou hast proved me and known me: Thou hast known my sitting down, and my rising up. Glory be to the Father

and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. (2 Timothy 1:12 and Psalm 138:1-2)

Laying on of Hands and the Prayer of Ordination

Come Holy Ghost, Rev. Louis Lambillotte, S.J.

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest, and in our hearts take up Thy rest; come with Thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

O Comforter, to Thee we cry, Thou heav’nly gift of God Most High; Thou fount of life and fire of love, and sweet anointing from above. O, Holy Ghost, through Thee alone, Know we the Father and the Son; Be this our firm, unchanging creed: that Thou dost from Them both proceed.

Praise we the Lord, Father and Son, And the blest Spirit with Them One; and may the Son on us bestow the gifts that from the Spirit flow.

Te Deum laudamus

Investiture with Stole and Chasuble Iam non dicam, Gregorian Chant

From now on I would not call you servants, but my friends, for a servant does not know what his lord might do. Alleluia. (John 15:15)

Anointing with Hands Sacerdotes Domini, Gregorian Chant

They shall be holy to their God, and shall not profane their God’s name, since they offer the oblations of the Lord, the food of their God; so they must be holy, alleluia (Leviticus 21:6).

Presentation of the Oblata

Fraternal Greeting of Peace Ubi Caritas, Gregorian Chant

Where charity and love are, God is there. Christ’s love has gathered us into one. Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him. Let us fear, love the living God, and love each other with a sincere heart. Amen.

Offertory Motet I Was Glad, Charles Hubert Parry

I was glad when they said unto me, we will go into the house of the Lord. Our feet shall stand in thy gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is builded as a city, that is at unity in itself. O pray for the peace of Jeru-salem; they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and plenteousness within thy palaces.

Psalm CXXII

Orate Fratres

Cardinal: Oràte, fratres, ut meum ac vestrum sacrificium acceptàbile fit apud Deum Patrem omnipotèntem. [Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to

God, the almighty Father.]

All: Suscìpiat Dòminus sacrificium de mànibus tuis ad laudem et glòriam nòminis sui, ad utilitàtem quoque nostram totiùs que Ecclèsiae suae sanctae. [May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and

glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.]

Prayer over the Gifts

Preface V. The Lord be with you. R. And with your spirit. V. Lift up your hearts. R. We lift them up to the Lord. V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. R. It is right and just.

Sanctus & Benedictus Messe Solennelle, Op. 36, Charles-Marie Widor

Memorial Acclamation We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tres-passes, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

V. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, gra-ciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

R. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever.

All: Et cum spiritu tuo. [And with your spirit.]

Agnus Dei Messe Solennelle, Op. 36, Charles-Marie Widor

Cardinal: Ecce Agnus Dei, ecce qui tollit peccata mundi. Beati qui ad cenam Agni vocati sunt. [Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.]

All: Domine, non sum dignus ut intres sub tectum meum, sed tantum dic verbo et sanabitur anima mea [Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.]

Communion Chant Ego sum pastor bonus, Gregorian Chant

I am the Good Shepherd. I know my sheep and mine know me.

Communion Motet Ave verum corpus, Colin Mawby

Hail, true Body, born of the Virgin Mary, who having truly suffered, was sacrificed on the cross for man-kind, whose pierced side flowed with water and blood: May it be for us a foretaste [of the Heavenly ban-

quet] in the trial of death. O sweet Jesus, O pious Jesus, O Jesus, son of Mary, have mercy on me.

Communion Motet Magnificat in G, Charles Villiers Stanford

My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he

that is mighty hath magnified me; and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations. He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the

imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble and meek; He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remem-bering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel; as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is

now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
