Prayer ServiceFor Those Experiencing Loss & Transition

Wednesday, May 1, 7:00 p.m.Saint Mary’s Prayer Room

Come be with our community during our monthly prayer service and be filled with our God’s love, comfort and peace.

As we continue our celebration of the Season of Easter, we are blessed and happy to also celebrate First Communions and Con-firmations. Congratulations to all those who have received First Communion and Confirmation over the past weeks and in the weeks to come. You strengthen our community, give us hope and bring us many blessings. Please continue to pray and worship with us and become the leaders our community will need in the future. May the Lord bless you!I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your incredible generosity to St. Mary’s in the Easter Collection. This year the collection amounted to $103,000 and the Easter Flower Collection was $7,200! Thank you very much for all you do for this great parish!

Last week the Church celebrated a Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is so important that we pray for vocations in our Church. Remember that there are as many vocations in the Church as there are members of the Church. A vocation is not just about becoming a friar or sister or priest, it is about using your gifts to build up the Church and the Kingdom of God. All of us have a vocation and all of us are called to discover our vocation and to live out our vocation. Of course, we need ordained ministers, friars and sisters in our Church and I ask you to pray for those vocations. But never forget that you, too, are called to serve the Church and the Kingdom. Take some time to pray about your vocation. How is God calling you? What can you do or what are you doing for the good of the Church and the world? Here is a prayer sent to us from the Holy Name Province Vocation Ministry. As you pray it, pray for your own vocation, the vocation of our friars in formation and for an increase in awareness of the vocations of us all. To learn more about Franciscan life check out www.BeAFranciscan.org. Oh God, creator of the universe, your people are longing to hear your word. Send laborers into your harvest, women and men on fire with your love. Send us ordained ministers, who gather the prayers and longings of your people, and serve as a channel of your presence through the sacraments. Send us religious sisters, brothers and priests whose life in community foreshadows our eternal unity in Christ, and whose service brings your life to the world. May each of us respond with courage and generosity to our particular vocations, and may the Church recognize the Spirit’s call to men and women of good will, trusting in your abundance to answer all our needs. Amen.Speaking of prayer, this week on Thursday, May 2, we will celebrate the National Day of Prayer. Please take some time out of your busy day that day and offer up some extra prayers for our cities, towns, state and nation. Pray, too, for our leaders and for peace in our world. Let’s pray for an end to all violence, fear and hatred. Let’s pray that we continue to be a welcoming, peaceful and reconciling people!

Next Sunday, May 5, we will celebrate Senior Appreciation Night with our Youth Ministry. We will start the festivities at the 5:00 PM mass and then the seniors and other members of Youth Ministry will gather in the Carnevale Center to celebrate their achievements and the end of another great year in Youth Ministry. A special thanks goes out to the Youth Ministry Staff: Anne Silversey, John Darcy, Pat Newton, Mary Ann Werner, Debbie Borroto and all of the great volunteers who make this ministry a real hallmark of St. Mary’s!

As we continue the great celebration of Easter for the next four weeks, all of you will be in our prayers! Thanks for a great week!

Pace e Bene,

GIFT Retreat Day - And They Were All Filled With the Holy Spirit...Saturday, May 18 - 9:00 AM - 12:00 NoonOur Lady of the Magnificat - KinnelonFacilitated by Msgr. Thomas Nydeggar and Deacon Andy Golden

Join us on the beautiful campus of Our Lady of the Magnificat on the eve of Pentecost Sunday as our GIFT retreat this year will focus on answering three questions: Who is the Holy Spirit? What does the Holy Spirit do? and How can I be filled with the Spirit? Reflections will include biblical references to the Holy Spirit in both the Old and New Testaments, the role of the Holy Spirit in the history of our Church, and how we may experience the power of the Holy Spirit. Additional reflections will address the ability of the Holy Spirit to change and influence our lives. Please join us for a wonderful day of prayer and reflection on the day before the great feast of Pentecost which celebrates the day those who gathered in the Upper Room were filled with the Holy Spirit and changed the world.

A Taste of Silence ExperienceExperience Centering Prayer

Tuesday, April 30, 7:00 PM, Carnevale Center, Room 201

Life is increasingly hectic. Just when we think that the pace of life has reached its maximum, it speeds up some

more. There are only 24 hours in each day, but the demands on our time seem to increase continuously. We risk burn-out, estrangement from our loved ones and professional collapse.

How can we hold things together? In Psalm 46:10, we hear the words, Be still and know that I am God. When we hear these words, there is a quiet, powerful stirring in our innermost beings and in our minds we whisper Yes, this is what I want. But, how do I do it?

St. John of the Cross said that God’s first language is silence; in Centering Prayer we learn this language, we learn to open to God’s gift of contemplative prayer.

Therese M. Saulnier will present this experience. Theresa earned a Master of Arts degree in Theology with a concentra-tion in spirituality from Fordham.

Come and learn the language of silence and be open to God’s will for our lives. To register, or if you have questions, call Barbara Heap at 973.838.4617.

Daily Readings for the Week

Are you searching for a Church to call your own? Do you know any adults

R.C.I.A.

who might be interested in joining our Franciscan community?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults are formally received into the Roman Catholic Church. RCIA is a journey of faith where adults are introduced to the Church and is the process by which those who were never baptized, or were baptized in another Christian tradition or those who were baptized as Catholics and never received Confirmation or Eucharist, complete their Sacraments of Initiation.

RCIA Inquiry sessions are ongoing; for more informa-tion, please contact Steve Kass at 973.879.3102 or [email protected].
