A Welcoming Community: You enter this Church … not as stranger, but as a guest of God. He is your heavenly Father. Come, then, with joy in your heart and thanks on your lips into His presence, offering Him your love and service. Be grateful to the strong and loyal ones who, in the name of Jesus Christ, built this place of worship, and to all who have beautified it and hallowed it with their prayers and praise. Ask His blessing on those who love His house of faith as the inspiration of their labor, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit, and may that blessing rest on you, both in your going out and your coming in.
Parish Registration: You must be a registered member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish to receive Baptism, Confirmation, First Penance, First Holy Communion, Marriage and to receive sponsor letters from the pastor.
New Members: Please stop by or call the parish office and register. (If you are leaving the parish, please notify the office before you leave). Thank you.
Change of Address: Please notify the parish office as soon as possible if you have had a change of address.
Inactive Catholics: As a welcoming parish, we ask every parishioner to ask God to put in your heart people whose hearts we need to reach out and touch with God’s love. “Before you talk to men about God, you talk to God about men.” Please, call, write, leave in an envelope in the collection the name, address and phone number of the person. Father would be delighted to meet with them.
SACRAMENTAL LIFE

Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms are scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month following the 9:30 AM Mass. In order to understand and better appreciate this special sacrament, parents are required to attend the Pre-Baptismal Program, which is held on the last Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM in St. Basil’s Rectory. Please contact the rectory to schedule your child’s baptism.
Sacrament of Marriage: Couples contemplating marriage should notify the rectory at least six months prior to the date to allow necessary time for proper preparation.
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick: Urgent calls will be attended to at any time of the day or night.
Visitation of the Sick: Please call the parish for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facility.
Parish Mission Statement: We, the Catholic faithful of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, in union with our Holy Father, the Pope, and our Bishop, are called through Baptism to share in the ministry which Jesus Christ has entrusted to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. As priest and lay faithful in a rural area, we utilize our energy to serve the spiritual needs of the Kingdom of God to promote a culture of life, justice, and peace to this generation and the generations that follow us.
Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Heavenly beauty and splendor of the Father, you are the most valued Heavenly
treasure. New Eve, immaculate in soul, spirit and body, created of the godly seed by the Spirit of God, you are the
spiritual Mother of mankind. Pure Virgin, full of grace then and now, your whole being was raised Heavenly in full glory, to be elevated
above all the hosts within the Kingdom of God. O Heavenly Mother, Queen of Heaven and earth, I recognize the glory of your highest title, the Immaculate
Heart of Mary! Loving Mother, dispenser of endless blessings, you who continually intercede on our behalf,
please present my need before your loving Son, Jesus. (Mention your request)
O Immaculate Heart of Mary, I know that you are now presenting my need before Jesus, for you have never turned away those in dire need.
Mother dearest, I await your favorable answer, submitting myself to the Divine will of the Lord, for all glories are His for ever and ever. Amen.
Third Sunday of Easter
Sunday, April 10th, 2016
Sunday Readings
First Reading: Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41 The high priest chastised Peter and the other apostles for continuing to preach when they had been ordered to stop. Peter replied he would rather obey God than men, considering God’s power even over death. They are again warned to stop speaking of Jesus and then freed.
Responsorial Psalm: 31
Second Reading: Revelation 5:11-14 John had a vision of many angels and all the living creatures of the world gathered around a throne. The angels cried out that the slain Lamb was worthy of receiving power, glory, and praise. Then every creature on earth called out praise to God and the Lamb, and the elders fell down and worshipped.
Gospel: John 21:1-19 Jesus appeared to the disciples for the third time since his resurrection while they were fishing. They hadn't caught anything, and then Jesus advised them to cast their net from the other side of the boat. When they did this, they caught a great number of fish. Jesus then asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?” When Peter said he did, Jesus asked him to tend and feed his sheep.
Third Sunday of Easter “So He said to them, ’Cast the net over the right side of the
boat and you will find something,’ So they cast it, and were not able
to pull it in because the number of fish. So the disciple whom Jesus
loved said to Peter, ’It is the Lord.’ Jesus came over and took the
bread and gave it to them, and in like manner the fish. …’Feed my
sheep.’ …’Follow me.’ ’We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy
Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.’”
How many times we meet Peter speaking in the
scriptures. Sometimes we are almost embarrassed by his
comments, yet he speaks for us. At other times the
presence of the Spirit shines through, and we echo our
“Amen.”
Let’s sit by the sea for a moment. The wash of
gentle waves, the freshness of the breeze, the birds flying
beneath snowy clouds and a blue sky. See the boat visible
as the dawn comes up, the appearance of Jesus and His
question. Those who know the sea and fishing industry
would have ignored His suggestion and headed for shore.
Something made them react differently. Was it His voice
as something of an invitation? Was it an “I’ll show you”
response. Weren’t they tired after a frustrating night?
They lowered the nets.
How precise was Saint John as he told us of the
size and number of the catch. Once again at the shore we
catch the smell of fresh bread and barbecued fish. Hear
the sizzling of the frying pan. See the sparks from the fire
and the smoke spiraling upward. “Come and eat your
breakfast.” The Eucharistic gesture of Jesus taking and
feeding, recalling the 5 loaves and 2 fish which filled so
many comes to mind. The Eucharistic gesture of taking,
blessing, and breaking in the Upper Room is almost
repeated again.
This third appearance of Jesus is another great
meal story in the gospel. The Holy Spirit allows us to
testify that Christ is alive, among us, in our parish
community, where He continues to feed and nourish us.
As witnesses we are called to cast the net again, inviting
others to share in what He offers us. Jesus tells us “Feed
my sheep.” If we don’t they may remain forever hungry.
Jesus tells us “Follow me” which we have been doing, but
we need to hear His invitation again to move closer to
him.

From a book addressed to Monimus by St.
Fulgentius of Ruspe, bishop The sacrament of unity and love
The spiritual building up of the body of Christ is
achieved through love. As Saint Peter says: Like living
stones you are built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood,
offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
And there can be no more effective way to pray for this
spiritual growth than for the church, itself Christ’s body,
to make the offering of his body and blood in the
sacramental form of the bread and wine. For the cup we
drink is a participation in the blood of Christ, and the bread we
break is a participation in the body of Christ. Because there is one
loaf, we who are many are one body since we all share the same
bread. And so we pray that, by the same grace which
made the Church Christ’s body, all its members may
remain firm in the unity of that body through the
enduring bond of love.
We are right to pray that this may be brought
about in us through the gift of the one Spirit of the
Father and the Son. The Holy Trinity, the one true God,
is of its nature unity, equality, and love, and by one divine
activity sanctifies its adopted sons. That is why Scripture
says that God’s love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy
Spirit he has given us. The Holy Spirit, who is the one Spirit
of the Father and the Son, produces in those to whom he
gives the grace of divine adoption the same effect as he
produced among those whom the Acts of the Apostles
describes as having received the Holy Spirit. We are told
that the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul,
because the one Spirit of the Father and the Son, who
with the Father and the Son is one God, had created a
single heart and soul in all those who believed.
This is why Saint Paul in his exhortation to the
Ephesians says that this spiritual unity in the bond of
peace must be carefully preserved. I, therefore, a prisoner for
the Lord, he writes, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling,
with all humility and meekness and with patience, bearing with one
another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond
of peace. There is one body and one Spirit. God makes the Church itself a sacrifice pleasing
in his sight by preserving within it the love which his
Holy Spirit has poured out. Thus the grace of that
spiritual love is always available to us, enabling us
continually to offer ourselves to God as a living sacrifice,
holy and pleasing to him forever.

Reflec;ng on the Gospel
Risen life has its demand—we must eat
breakfast with the risen Christ! That is, we must open
ourselves to be forfied by all the giGs given to us so
that our follow-response is energec, sustained, and
fruiHul. Jesus gives us all the nourishment we need in
order to meet the demands of daily discipleship.
Accepng the nourishment that Jesus offers means that
by following him we ourselves become his risen
Presence, those who lead others to him. Every day we
must take care that they speak of his goodness and care.
Leading others to Jesus doesn’t mean doing big
things; it means doing the li.le things well and so reflect
in the risen life dwelling within us. It might mean once a
week siNng down and having breakfast with our family.
It might mean serving in a soup kitchen once a month. It
might mean regularly contribung food giGs to the poor
to be brought up during the presentaon of giGs at
Mass. No ma.er what our act of love, or when, it always
means saying yes to Jesus and risen life.

New life here in our midst!
Are you a Prac;cing Catholic?
To consider yourself a praccing Catholic, try out
the “Precepts of the Church” for size!
1. ABend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of
Obliga;on
2. Confession at least once a year
3. Receive Holy Communion during the Easter
Season
4. Observe the days of fas;ng and abs;nence
5. Provide for the needs of the Church
6. Marry according to Church regula;ons
If you a.end Sunday Mass half the me,
you’re a “50% praccing Catholic.” And if 50% of
Catholics are 50% praccing Catholics, then the
presence of Jesus Christ in the world has been
diminished by 75%!
On the other hand, if only 10% of Catholics
received Holy Communion and confessed their sins
monthly, the presence of Jesus Christ would change
the world.
ABen;on: St. Basil’s Alumni

for a variety of reasons, but we would like to offer you
an opportunity to purchase a “corner” in the Picnic
Book to share your family/career story since your days
at St. Basil’s School years ago. If interested, please
contact the Parish Office at P.O. Box 307, Dushore,
