On October 29 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. the upstairs Clubhouse will be transformed into an expo-style event showcasing the endeavors of the Club’s different committees and departments. This will be the first of many activities this year that commemorate and celebrate FLCC’s 90 years of tradition.
Come up after golf or drop by for a special afternoon that celebrates camaraderie, tradition and idea sharing over drinks and hors d’oeuvres, raffles prizes, and more!
At 4:30 p.m., Club President, Matthew Brodsky, will introduce the club-wide survey to the Membership, which is set to go out to all members in early November.

It was my pleasure last month to participate in two “Meet the President” meetings. It was the first time we utilized Webinar access so our out of town members could participate. The focus of the meetings was to discuss with the membership the proposed 2016/2017 Capital Budget and potential methodologies for raising capital. A sub-committee chaired by BOD member, Sam Hill was created last May to examine our capital needs for the next three years. Our by-laws dictate the funding of our capital account be derived from “Entrance Fees”. In addition, it is our practice to also use proceeds from surpluses achieved above our “Operating Budget”. A general consensus was achieved to focus our capital needs funding by increasing “Equity Membership” and utilizing the associated increases in revenues to achieve our capital goals. I am pleased to announce a new “Membership Campaign” that we believe will be quite successful. The details will be communicated shortly or you can contact Valerie Roca for immediate information. In the past two weeks we have signed up two new Equity members with others solidly in our pipeline. A few physical improvements will be noticed soon. A cosmetic refurbish-ment of the halfway house is almost completed, a new look in the Pro Shop is in process and we are finalizing “phase one” of the parking lot improvement project with a new entranceway. Much more to come!!! We often have reason to compliment golf course superintendent, Todd Ingram for the exceptional condition of our golf courses. He has found a new way to impress us. The Greens Committee, chaired by Steve Day, has had continuing conversations regarding the condition of our sand traps. As many of you know we have ample sand in our traps. However, due to the high banking and weather induced sand compression the committee was looking for methodologies for improvement. The first thing Todd and his crew achieved was “flattening” the bottom of many of the traps producing more consistently level lies. The second initiative was to deal with the sand compaction issue. Todd has developed an additional part for our sand trap grooming vehicles that actually digs in and roughs up the sand prior to smoothing with the vehicle’s brush. The results are fantastic. Take a look when you can. However, I suggest you attempt to avoid any hazards in the course of your play. Finally, fun stuff. I have had the honor of being chairman of the “Casey Cup” tournament for the last few years. The playoff for the Cup was on 9/24 with the winners of the four major championships plus the top four point achievers similar in nature to the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup format. The 18 hole playoff resulted in a tie with Dave Eddy and Steve Rippley going to extra holes. I won’t embarrass my friend Steve with the details but go on to congratulate Dave for his fine play and win. Check out his new “Casey Cup” golf bag while his name is being engraved on the trophy. The season is here. At this time of year, the calendar of events becomes full and the level of activity at the club increases. I am certain you will all notice the changes in both the dining room and on the course. We also have a few new events that I would strongly suggest you attend. First, The State of Affairs for Fort Lauderdale Country Club is scheduled for October 29th. This active presentation of all club committees to the membership is to share the path each committee has set for itself and
also to share the accomplishments of the past. Tied to this afternoon is the beginning of the celebration of the Club’s 90th Birthday. Booths will be set up for each committee, much like a trade show, and committee members will be manning each booth to share their committee’s vision and accomplishments. This is being built as a fun and informative afternoon for all members of the club to walk through and gain working knowledge of your club. I would like to thank Steve Rippley for a wonderful evening at the club last month when he shared his experiences behind the plate and in the field as a Major League umpire. This lecture, the second of a series, has been wonderfully received by the membership and I encourage you all to attend the next presentation. Our next guest speaker is Chief Frank Adderley from the City of Fort Lauderdale. Please mark your calendar for Sunday November 6th, for an evening of information and enlightenment as the Chief talks about the challenges today for the men and women in blue. With over 30 years’ experience with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, his stories and insight will make for a very enjoyable evening. November 9th is the Holiday Wine Sale. Each year Breakthru Beverage, previously Premier, provides over 50 different wines to be tasted and purchased at very good pricing. If you have a Holiday Party, or might give bottles of wine away for gifts during the holidays, I strongly encourage you to make your purchases on this evening. It has been a great evening in years past, with the Chef providing hors d’oeuvres. It is great to be able to taste before having to buy and this evening allows you that opportunity. Prior to the Wine Sale on the evening of Tuesday November 8th, the club will host an evening with “The Count”. “The Count of Buena Vista is portrayed by Sonoma professional character portrayal actor and historian George Webber. Mr. Webber has for the last five years brought the famous Count Agoston Haraszthy to life in first person performances delivered to wine audiences all over the United States. Combining solid historical and wine knowledge with extraordinary oratory, a Wine Dinner performed by George Webber is a unique experience not to be missed by both wine and history lovers.” See you on the fairways.

ROBERT & CHANTAL GOVAERTS AND 11 YR OLD SON, MAX! A family of avid golfers! - Robert has a handicap of 15.5 and Chantal is an 8.6. Max is a 25.3! The Govaerts are from the Dutch island next to Aruba called Curacao. Robert and Chantal decided to move to South Florida to develop Max’s Golf and Tennis skills. Max is attending American Heritage, and the family lives in Davie for the time being, while their home in Weston is being completed.
JOHN BROOKS is the Chief of Police for the city of Sunrise. He looks for-ward to picking up a game with members as often as he can. He also describes himself as a “foodie” and looks forward to attending many social and dining events with his longtime girlfriend Christine Davis.
DANIEL DRAZEN is an attorney passionate about the game of golf. Daniel is 27 years old and has a 2.6 handicap! His girlfriend, Danielle Zukowsky, is looking to be reintroduced to the game. There is no better place for a lady golfer than FLCC!
WAYNE & LORIE LEMONTANG have joined FLCC with their three sons, Keith, Kyle and Ryan. Mr. LeMontang and his sons get to-gether to play golf every chance they get and are speedy play-ers. All three sons played high school golf and still enjoy the game very much. You will spot them mostly on weekend morn-ings!
KEITH LEMONTANG is a Digital Marketing Analyst. He graduated from The University Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor’s De-gree in Economics in 2009 and received his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Miami with concen-trations in Finance and Marketing in 2014.
RYAN LEMONTANG, ESQ. is an attorney at ACF&D. Alvarez Carbonell Feltman & DaSilva PL. Admitted to practice in FL & NJ
KYLE LEMONTANG is a Business Technology Consultant trained and certified in SAP Sales & Distribution (SD). He graduated from The University of Arizona, Eller College of Management.
RAY LIOTTA is the President of DCI Systems Group, a temperature control sales and service provider since 1984. Mr. Liotta is a speedy Saturday morning golfer. Ariana Liotta is looking to possibly get back into golf. Sounds like she’s found the perfect place to do just that!

Marie Michel was borne in Port au Prince, Haiti and has been with FLCC for 6 years. Marie has been married 21 years, and has three daughters. Her best memories at FLCC are always around the holidays. On her spare time, Marie loves to cook & watch the Miami Heat!

Congratulations to David Eddy, the 2016 Casey Cup Champion. Eight finalists participated in a one day tournament to determine this year’s winner.
David defeated runner up Steve Rippley in a play off that went 2 holes in this year’s Casey Cup finals.

FLCC Girls hit the road recently and played Legend, a challenging course at The Club at Ibis in West Palm Beach. A beautiful locale. The carts did not have GPS, which we are thankful for at our club! And although nobody played “Lights Out” everyone had a great time!

RULE OF THE MONTH by Nancy Meyer
The following is a new rule regarding the use of
equipment in tournament play. With the coming of our busy golf season, there are numerous tournaments on the horizon. The following new rule will help clarify the use of devices that may be in question.
Artificial Devices and Unusual Equipment; Abnormal Use of Equipment
Rule 14-3 governs the use of equipment and devices that might assist a player in making a specific stroke or generally in his play. Golf is a challenging game in which success should depend on the judgement, skills and abilities of the player. This principle guides the USGA in determining whether the use of any item is in breach of the USGA Rules.
Except as provided in the Rules, during a stipulated round the player must not use any artificial device or unusual equipment, or use any equipment in an
abnormal manner:
1. That might assist her in making a stroke or in her play; or
2. For the purpose of gauging or measuring conditions that might affect her play; or
That might assist her in gripping the club, except that:
(i)gloves may be worn provided that they are plain gloves; (ii) resin, powder and drying or moisturizing agents may be used; and (iii) a towel or handkerchief may be wrapped around the grip.
Exceptions:
1. A player is not in breach of this Rule if (a) the
equipment or device is designed for or has the effect of alleviating a medical condition, (b) the player has a legitimate medical reason to use the equipment or
device, and (c) the Committee is satisfied that its use does not give the player any undue advantage over other players.
2. A player is not in breach of this Rule if he uses equipment in a traditionally accepted manner. PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 14-3: Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes. For subsequent offense – Disqualification. In the event of a breach between the play of two holes, the penalty applies to the next hole. Note: The Committee may make a Local Rule allowing players to use a distance-measuring device. Which does apply to us at Fort Lauderdale CC.
